Discussion:
[SlimDevices: Radio] Cannot Connect to mysqueezebox.com from Squeezebox Radio

I can no longer access mysqueezebox.com (i.e. I don't see all the menu
items for example, Search) from my Logitech Squeezebox Radio and the
WiFi icon on the display is 'red'. The Radio is connected to my wireless
network. I can access mysqueezebox.com from my browser. What does the
'red' icon indicate? Any thoughts on why this is happening or any ideas
that will help me resolve this issue? Thanks.

Red means the radio cannot connect to mysqueezebox.com - obviously. As
for the reasons:

- did you try a wired connection?
- did anything about your network change recently?
- did you try to power down the Radio and router?

(bonus question: are you the same person who tweeted me about this issue?)

I have the same issue. Nothing has changed with my computer/network. I'm

- nothing about my network changed recently.
- I tried powering down the Radio and router.
- Yes, I am the same person who tweeted you about this issue.

Add me to the list, lost connectivity last night. Has been driving me
crazy trying to troubleshoot, then found this forum.

Same symptoms, red wifi icon, network diags pass, i can ping the
radio etc...

Network info shows its registered, ping okay , tcp ports 3483 and 9000
okay.

If i watch that window, the server ip address for mysqueezebox.com keeps
changing slowly,
currently i see 54.234.196.19 54.80.75.58, 54.158.162.59

- I power cycled router and Squeezebox Radio - no connectivity to
mysqueezebox.com.
- I connected with an Ethernet cable - still no connectivity to
mysqueezebox.com.
- as stated before, nothing changed with my network.

I just learned that some parts of the infrastructure had to be replaced.
Could you please try again?

My Squeezebox BOOM has not been working properly for several days here
in N. CA

"Can't connect" I can unplug it and try again...network is fine as it
connects thru my wifi ok and then "connecting"....NOPE! Nothing
Repeat and after several attempts it will work again........BUT it is
very slow to respond. Must wait 15 to 60 seconds to get a
response...all menu items...slow.

Hope they replace the hardware for my area soon.

do a factory reset. Perhaps there was some networking stuff cached that
couldn't heal on its own with a reconnect. Even after the first radio
was up and running for a day, I went to work on another one and it
couldn't be persuaded to connect correctly.

Once I did the factory reset, the second radio connected right away to
MySqueezebox and worked fine.

factory reset? I have done the hold the PWR Button down for a few
seconds and then go thru the network connection, etc. and it gets to
"connecting" to MySB.com and then it may connect or may not.

Even after connected it is very slow in response to any buttons pushed.
Sometimes no response, sometimes a minute and then boom it moves.

This connection on/off also happens to my phone APP SqueezeControl/SB
Player. SB Player will connect and then get a "command status error"
and "reconnecting" about every 20 seconds.

BoomerBob - would you mind sharing your player's MAC address with me (PM
or mail to michael ät slimdevices dot com)? We do have one service
instance which is causing us some headache. I'd like to know whether we
can find some relation between the two.

Last night, 4/15 PM, while the time was displaying I did get the Boom
streaming a station. While it continued to stream the audio the display
showed the station data...however it was for a different station! While
streaming the audio, the display switched to showing... "can't
connect...left to go back, push knob to" That eventually went away and
the display started showing the wrong station again on display. Very
unusual behavior. Pressing the Pwr Button, took about 30 seconds and
then switched off. My phone APP "SB Player" still shows about every 20
seconds, "command stream error".."reconnecting". The Squeeze Connect APP
used with SB Player no longer works due to loss of connection. So, not
just my BOOM radio issue.

Thank you very much for these details! It kind of matches what we're
seeing: that service instances is handling the slimproto connection for
your device. Controllers (such as the SB Player) would use a different
protocol, and rely on the database to tell what slimproto service
instance the player was connected to. Now that particular service
instance is complaining about requests for players which it believes are
not connected to it. As if the database was out of sync. Or the player
was actually connected to some other server/instance.

Unplugged the Squeezebox BOOM yesterday and replugged into power after
being off for 13 hours.
Unfortunately, the same problems existed upon trying for an hour fussing
with the BOOM...very slow response to all buttons pushed if any.

So, after an hour I managed to get it to turn off with the pwr
button...took many attempts.

Overnight, I noticed the clock on and no "connecting" on display like I
had seen before.
So, this morning, the Alarm went off and the station started playing as
setup!
I then tried other stations and buttons and all worked immediately
without any delays or errors.

It is now working properly once again!

Thanks to all for the hand holding and work to get things going again.

Bob

Two radios stopped working as described by others in this thread. No
changes to either or to the home network. Grace Digital WIFI radio
continues to work fine. But both Squeezebox Radios stopped and have the
same problem.

I connected them to Ethernet cable directly to the Verizon router and
they do not work. I tried to connect from a desktop browser to
http://www.mysb.com/ and can not, I get a site not found error on
Verizon network.

When I use a cell phone and create a WIFI hotspot on the T-Moble
network, the Squeezebox radios both work fine, just as they had on the
Verizon network until yesterday.

Hope that network specific information helps someone!

Cheers.

You obviously don't have a SB problem, but a Verizon problem.

Both of my Radios cannot connect to mysqueezebox.com.
Both of my Booms are connected and working properly.

I know there have been problems recently. Is there a process I should
attempt to get reconnected?
I have shut down both radios and restarted (holding power button until
they go off and then restarting). I've also done a factory reset on one
of the radios. Still no connection.

Thanks for any assistance!

Are you using Verizon? I have that same issue in NJ with Verizon FIOS
(with both WIFI and ethernet) but not when I create a WIFI hotspot with

Yes. using verizon Fios with Fios router but not the WIFI part of the
FIOS router. Using Apple Airport Router as I have been for a few years.

Squeezebox booms are working fine as they always have.
Radios have red Wifi symbol.
Tried turning them off for a few hours - same.
Also rebooted WIFI with no impact. All other WIFI devices working fine.
Radios work well when connected through LMS.

By the way, I also tried connecting through the personal WIFI hotspot
and that doesn't work either. Still get the red WIFI symbol.

Two booms still working nicely!

Is your personal wifi hotspot also with Verizon?

I suspect the issue is with Verizon. Yesterday, I had frequent internet
outages with them lasting a minute or two and then noticed the
Squeezebox issue when I tired to use it in the evening. With the
T-Mobile ISP, there is no issue and the Squeezebox works fine.

Yes, personal hotspot is with Verizon Wireless.

I've had no internet outages either with Verizon FIOS or Verizon
Wireless over the last week.

I am willing to bet that if you take your Squeezebox to your local
McDonalds or Starbucks WIFI hotspot it will work fine - I believe they
both use ATT as their ISP, but you can ask them. I am convinced it is a
Verizon issue.

If that is true, that doesn't leave us in a very good spot.

If it is a verizon issue you'd think there would be a much more
significant level of activity on this forum as well as the Logitech
forum about the inability to connect. Verizon is a very large provider.
I don't see much activity in either forum today.

I know. What are you using for your DNS Server? Are you using the
default DNS servers provided by Verizon or a third party DNS Server? I
am using a third party DNS server with verizon but not with T-Mobile.

ISPs do a lot of complicated things to route and prioritize traffic.
Something was reconfigured yesterday at Verizon or maybe with my DNS
server vendor, IMHO.

I think my answer is the default since I wouldn't know how to use
anything other than the default.

You can specify or change your DNS server several different places. I
did it in the Verizon router so that my entire home uses a different DNS
Server. You can also do it at an individual device such as a PC or
phone. I don't think Squeezebox lets you do it but I am not sure.

I had chosen a third party DNS Server because if its attention to
blocking sites for phishing and allowing me to whitelist and blacklist
sites. You are fine with the default DNS servers, but if you want to
learn more about DNS Servers, here is a good link:

The correct URL is https://www.mysqueezebox.com

https://www.mysqueezebox.com is fully accessible and has been. I had
never heard of http://www.mysb.com/ until seeing it in a different
posting on this forum.

Thank you for the clarification.

I am having the same trouble with my SqueezeBox Radio. The Radio will
not connect to mysqueezebox. I have powered off and restarted. I even
did a factory reset. Nothing has worked. Please help!

One radio shows a connected WIFI symbol in lower right hand corner of
screen. Very limited menu options which include Now Playing, My Music,
Settings, Networking, and that's it. If I click My Music, it tries to
connect to LMS on my W10 computer but cannot connect.

My other radio has a red WIFI symbol in the lower right hand corner with
menu options which include Now Playing, My Music, Radio, Search, My
Apps, App Gallery, Favorites and Settings. Clicking any one of these
will cause it to try to connect to LMS on my computer but cannot
connect.

If I turn of LMS and use my computer to go to www.mysqueezebox.com, both
radios appear as connected! Each radio can be controlled from the Remote
Control capability on the mysqueezebox.com website. The remote control
capability on mysb.com allows me to select Pandora stations, podcasts,
etc. However, I cannot control the volume, nor can I turn the radios
off. That is so bizarre. Especially that one of the radios is showing a
RED WIFI symbol, which is supposed to mean that it is not connected to
mysqueezebox.com and yet I can control it from the mysqueezebox.com's
remote control capability.

I'm not sure where to go with any of this because I've never seen
behavior like this.

Even a simple thing like connecting to LMS (the new 7.9.1 version) is
not possible but this may be just an odd firewall issue. Fact remains, I
don't know how to fix even this simple issue.

Happy to answer any questions in trying to explore the issues.

I have the same issue when my Squeezebox is connected via Verizon, but
not when it is connected with a WIFI hotspot from T-Mobile. Who is your
ISP?

I thought so. Everyone that answered my question says Verizon. I made
not changes to my home network and two Squeezboxes stopped working at
the same time but both work fine from a WIFI hotspot outside the Verizon
network (made with a T-Moble cell phone.)

It is a Verizon issue, there is nothing wrong with our radios - they
have not had a software update in years.

In the last week, I have experienced many short internet disruptions
with Verizon- they are making network changes and one of their changes
affected our radios at least in the NY/NJ area. People affected have
said they were on Long Island or New Jersey. Where are you using
Verizon? It may be only in one region, or it could be nationwide. It has
affected both their FIOS wired internet and their cell phone internet
connections.

I have been asking people here whether they are using Verizon and so far
all have said yes and that they are in the northeast USA. My squeezebox
works fine with a WIFI hotspot from my T-Mobile phone, but not with
Verizon FIOS. Others with a Verizon phone have said that the Verizon
phone hotspot also does not work.

I called Verizon and they said they would be willing to run a trace if I
could provide to them the IP address or the URL that the Squeezebox
radios are trying to reach to access the favorites and other data. I do
not believe it is exactly "mysqueezebox.com" as I can reach that fine
with a browser on the Verizon network.

Any clues? The Verizon tech will call me back in a few hours to see if
I have an IP address from the radio for him to test.

I posted earlier, but I am still having trouble with my 2 squeeze box
radios. Both have the wifi logo in red but says it is connected to the
network. I have rebooted my router and the units. I have also done a
reset to factory settings. Nothing has worked. I have seen in here a
lot of these problems are coming from Verizon service providers but I do
not have Verizon.

Just need some help here. Thanks

Both my radios are working now. What was the cause and what did you do
to fix it? I bring the radios with me when I travel, so please confirm
they will work in all countries not just the country where they are now.

Can we get a bug fix so that the vital information is cached on the
radios and they can work when Logitech is down? Imagine if you could
not make any cell phone calls if Apple.com (iOS_ or google.com (Android)
was down. Really bad design from an otherwise competent company of
Logitech.

Most of our infrastructure is running on outdated server types and need
to be replaced. In moving to newer types of systems we missed some
crucial piece which needed a different configuration than the old
systems. Only a small fraction of our users was affected by this issue.
Thanks to your providing your players' MAC addresses I was able to
identify the server in question.

Thank you for fixing it! I love my Squeezebox radios and have many other
Logitech products including this G110 programmable keyboard.

I spent some time reading through this forum and it appears that you are
a one man show keeping our radios working. My deepest and most sincere
thanks to you for that.

It is a major disappointment that my two radios will not work
autonomously without mysqueezebox.com - the favorites were not cached
and even the presets would not function! It became a totally worthless
device with zero functionality.

Thank you again for bringing it back to life! I owed a Roku internet
radio and will never purchase another Roku product because of the way
Roku abandoned that product. So far, I am still buying Logitech
products largely do to your personal efforts.

When it comes to this type of issue (low level server infrastructure
issues) I can count on trusty helpers in the IT department. I did not
fix this myself. Only transferred crucial information back and forth.

You could always install and run LMS on some computer (PC, Raspberry Pi,
NAS) and import the favorites there.

This is very interesting. During the time I was unable to connect my two
radios to mysqueezebox.com, I was also not able to connect them to LMS
7.9.1.
When connection to msb.com was fixed, I was then able to connect to LMS
7.9.1

I initially would have thought that I could connect to LMS without
regard to my ability to connect to mysb.com. But the outage showed me
that I couldn't count on that.

Should I expect to be able to connect to LMS if no radio connection
exists to mysb.com?

I'm very happy it is all working now but just a bit confused.

There were two different issues. They were fixed within a few hours of
each other.

Yes, LMS doesn't need mysb.com.

Excellent. Confirms my initial understanding and clearly a positive as a
number of the initial apps (like Sirius) support have disappeared.
Ability to continue to use my music collection and use the apps in LMS
very important.

So great to have everything working I pulled my third boom out of the
closet and, after a long time of being disconnected, it was up and
playing in about a minute. Like a reunion. Three booms and two radios.

Thanks again to you and the team.

My NAS is NAS4Free, a version of Unix. Does LMS support it yet? Last I
read, LMS required and older version of unix, correct? Thanks!

Two squeezebox radios, which were fixed yesterday now exhibiting the
following behavior:

Both radios connected (White WIFI symbol, full main menu, show up as
"connected" on the mysqueezebox.com website).

Clicking on "My Apps" brings up list of apps.

Clicking on any App (eg Pandora, Podcasts), just gives a continual
spinning symbol like it is trying to connect.

Clicking on "My Music" to connect to LMS 7.9.1 doesn't work. Tries to
connect for a little while and then a "Try Again" option comes up.

Rebooted radio (shutting off and letting it come on) didn't do anything
to change this behavior.

Booms seem ok. Problem specific to two radios.

Exactly the same symptoms with me after working for 1 day. Initially, I
was getting the red antenna and replied to indicate that... then I
edited my reply above to state that it is now white antenna but no
funtions.

Additionally, when I select any of my presets, I see a screen that now
says in a single line " Nothing". It actually says that word, "Nothing"
without the quotes.

Switzerland is 6 hours ahead of ET in North America, with any luck, this
will be fixed by breakfast. ;)

I'm seeing the same symptoms as everyone else since this morning...white
antenna, but nothing plays. I tried an experiment like a previous
poster, connecting via wifi hotspot on my phone (Verizon Wireless)
instead of my home ISP (Golden West), and the Squeezebox Radio worked
perfectly. So, it appears that some ISPs are doing something
weird...any ideas? What do I tell my ISP tech support...chances are I
will spend hours on the phone just trying to explain the basics to
them....

I've had the same issue for the past 2 days. Wi-Fi is connected, click
on Podcast, Radio or Tunein and just spins and spins. I think Logitech
gave up on this platform long ago. Does anyone know of a replacement
that supports Podcasts and Tunein without being controlled through a
smartphone and Chromecast? Seems to be a dead category as most people
are just using their smartphones for audio and alarms.

Sad.

I don't think there is such a thing. I also have a grace digital and
while it has its advantages, the Logitech is a better device, better UI
and has Tunein whereas grace digital uses the inferior reciva.com and
iHeart.

If you have an Android, Podcast Addict is an outstanding podcast app.
You can buy an Android on eBay for less than $50 and don't need phone
service, just use the WIFI. Get one with Bluetooth and a set of
Bluetooth speakers or bluetooth earbuds. If you only have a half dozen
stations you listen to regularly, consider Tasker, Intent-Radio and
Shorty for a great commercial free radio. When I get in my car, the
phone connects to the car's bluetooth and automatically launches the
last stream played - all hands free.

In short, there are some good alternatives but they require some
tinkering. Squeezebox was best. Long Live Squeezebox!

That was my initial thought, but I had a long talk with Verizon FIOS
over the weekend and they assured me they do not. Logitech had fixed it
for 24 hours and told me in this forum that they had an issue with a
hardware upgrade that they had done on their end. Someone in this forum
could not get it working with a Verizon Wireless cell phone, so it is
interesting that you could. People in Canada and New Zealand have also
reported the same issue - different ISPs. The Verizon people told me
that if I can get to the site in my browser (I can) then it is nothing
to do with them, it is an issue on the server or the internal network
that the server is a part of (ports, and protocols).

Yes. Yesterday: White WIFI, both show up as connected on mysb.com, both
provide a full menu selection but selecting any app generates a spinning
thing like attempting to connect.
And the most disturbing thing is during these recent outages, players
could not cannot connect to LMS (7.9.1). Why is this disturbing? Because
I've always taken comfort that if mysb.com is taken down permanently,
I'd still be able to utilize LMS.

*But as of this morning, radios seem to be back to normal working
condition. *

My two radios are working again too. Thank you!

Very disturbing that the menus and favorites are not cached on the
radios and need to connect to the mothership. More disturbing still is
that the PRESETS don't work and are not even accessible by mysb.com. I
am very disappointed that Logitech bought the company that made the
Squeezebox, more disappointed that they ran the product into the ground
but to still require connection to the mothership to gather data on our
listening habits long after the product has been discontinued is hard to
forgive.

Unless you use Music services that require mysb.com (I don't), then you
*do not need* mysb.com. I've run LMS without mysb.com integration for
the last 5-ish years, no problem with Radio stations or local music or
plugins like BBC iPlayer, Spotty, etc..

Pictures below show one button press to run LMS without mysb.com
(piCorePlayer OS), LMS settings page has *no* mysb.com tab.

This is great to know.

I can't find that button press on my LMS 7.9.1 installation. How do I
find it or set mine up so I have the option?

Yes. Red antenna. No interaction possible but it does net me select
other wireless networks as before. When I pick mine, the red antenna
remains. I have no password for the others on the list.

Other wireless would work? Not a mysb.com problem then?

No. The other wireless networks are my neighbor's WIFI signals. My
network is the Verizon ISP as before.

Wow!!!
Both of my radios are working normally now! Great to have them back.
In addition, I had also posted that I could not connect to LMS 7.9.1 -
It is probably related (not sure how) but I am able to connect to LMS
now from both radios. So it was not a 7.9.1 problem.

Thanks so much, Michael, for any intervention on your part. I truly
appreciate it.

Curious about the cause.

Hi Michael,
The "canadian" unit also working well this morning (did another
36+hours power off since Saturday, and another Factory Setting reset
after booting, as Red Icon was still present (maybe not patient enough),
but suspect it's more what you did on your side ;-) ! Thanks again.

Thanks - and Bingo! Your device is one of 13 unlucky units which are
connected to this lagging instance. My suggestion would be you totally
power it off, and leave it off for an hour or two. Then you try again.
By then the load-balancer will hopefully have forgotten your unit and
will connect you with a working instance.

We're working on it. Seriously!

Unplugged from power until tonight.....will report back.

Just have to wonder about the phone APP and why it does not work.

This all happened when others had disconnect problems last
Tuesday/Wednesday.

Thanks!

Interesting that you are in Canada and presumably using an ISP other
than Verizon. My device works fine with a T-Mobile hotspot but not with
Verizon. I spoke with Verizon and they said they would be willing to run
a trace if we can find the IP address that the radios are trying to
reach. Verizon suggested that the issue may not be with their network
but with a device between their network and the intended destination of
the radios.

Hi there

I’m sorry to hear about your trouble. Unfortunately I won’t be able to
look into this before tomorrow.

But as for what host: players are using baby.squeezenetwork.com (Radio)
or fab4.sq... it’s only aliases to www.mysqueezebox.com.

I tried baby.squeezenetwork.com in my browser when connected via Verizon
and there are no connection issues for me- it successfully redirects me
to http://baby.squeezenetwork.com/index/Home

Strange that I can get there with the browser but the Squeezebox can not
get there on Verizon, but both can get there on T-Mobile.

I had gotten that call back from the tech at Verizon and his view was
the same as mine - because I am able to get to the servers through by
browsers with Verizon, it is not a Verizon issue. The fact that we now
have people with other ISPs and from other countries with the same issue
reinforces that it is not a Verizon issue. Strange that my radio works
with the T-Mobile ISP but not the Verizon ISP.

The Verizon tech indicated that it is a server issue, something on the
server or its network changed and is not allowing our radios to talk
with it properly.

Hope that helps in some small way.

It would be really nice for Logitech to offer an update to the radio
software so that this information is cached on the radio and so that the
radios would work when there are server issues. I hope to use my radio
for decades and have less confidence in Logitech's server being
operational and supported for decades.

Thanks for your help!

np for tomorrow.... down for 10+ days and can wait a few more ;-)
Able to ping with success both 54.158.162.59 and 54.80.75.58, and dns
resolved both above addresses to the first IP here. As said, IP
connectivity seems fine, so maybe suspect more the change on the
backend-end side. Why I tried to Power Off for 12-15 hours to see if my
unit would be forgotten by the load balancer and connected to a working
instance. Maybe my device was also part of this lagging instance. No
luck yet. I'm into another 2-3 hours of Power Off to test it a second
time. Will update later with results. Thanks.

Just reiterating my continuing issues on my two radios (no problems with
Booms).
With the very unusual ability to control both radios from the
mysqueezebox.com's remote control capability.
Red WIFI icon on both radios.
Limited menu availability on both.

Verizon FIOS provider - Long Island, NY.
Tried setting up a hotspot on my cell phone but no connection there
either (Cell provider is Verizon Wireless).

Not urgent; just very appreciative of you looking into it ... Thanks!
