The KTMA MST3K episodes get potty mouthed with four letter words that the cable episodes didn't

The 1980's broadcast KTMA MST3K episodes get potty-mouthed that
the more familiar later cable episodes don't. Crude d--- jokes
in KTMA episode 5 Gamera, if I recall correctly, and other episodes
have things like the word s--- muted by the TV broadcast but then
said in the clear by the bots in Hangar 18. There's also the mods
and bots repeating a riff on the credit name "Butkus" and said in
a manner that evokes "b--- kiss" or "f--- this" in SuperDome.
There's probably other dirty language that I haven't seen yet.

Thank goodness that cable cleaned up the filth of broadcast TV!

I'm pretty sure it was a KTMA episode where one of the bots said
something about Deep Woods Off, and Joel replied "When you're deep in
the woods, you can't beat off". Stupid, but it made me laugh.

That sounds familiar, was that in the KTMA of Year Of The Apes?

No idea. It's been decades since I've watched any of the KTMA
episodes.

Did anyone ever unearth the first few, or are they still the stuff of
legends?

And later in the KTMA Superdome episode there's a non-four letter gag when
the narrator says something like "the fans have been pitching tents and
camping out in excitement and anticipation of seeing the superbowl" and
Joel says "they're excited if they're pitching tents".

I wonder if the KTMA episodes all exist, and in better quality, but have
been suppressed by an agreement with Comedy Central to forbid their
rebroadcast or distribution. Comedy Central is more restrictive to what
they can show than broadcast TV. They once reconstructed Cheech And Chong's
Next Movie to remove all drug references in favor of "diamonds", while
broadcast TV played the original.

And of course the KTMA espisodes have some good gags, the sex jokes and
four letter humor not being very good.

KTMA Episode 1: Invaders from the Deep
KTMA Episode 2: Revenge of the Mysterons from Mars

They came in the Bonus set of MST3Ks if you pitched in on the
Kickstarter for Season 11.

Wow, really? So they do exist and fans have seen them? Damn, now I'm
really wishing I had contributed to the Kickstarter campaign and
didn't just wait until you could buy the boxed set of Season 11.

Or are you just making that up? I could swear that I read the fine
print of that Kickstarter campaign pretty thoroughly and I don't
remember seeing early KTMAs included in the rewards.

Nah, not making anything up--trolling the Usenet seems pretty far down
the priority list at the moment.

There were basically two sets of bonus episodes--there were about 40%
of the MST3K in 540p resolution (I would prefer 720, but really, they
are a damned sight better than the 320ps I had that were burned off of
videotape in the MST3K Preservation Society downloads). Then, they
added another dozen or so episodes with the KTMAs--let me check the
colleciton real quick here...

K00: Green Slime (I had that one already--I think it was basically the pilot).
K01: Invades from the Deep in 540p.
K02: Revenge of the Mysterons from Mars in 540p--as a fan of Captain
Scarlet in elementary school, I will bet a mortgage payment that the
baddies in the title should be "Mysterions". But, hey, whatever.

None of the other KTMAs were included in the bonus sets. I don't
recall that during the Kickstarter that they listed the episodes
available as a reward bonus, so I can't speak to that.

Also, for completeness sake, for the first season they also included in
540p The Crawling Eye, The Robot vs. the Aztec Mummy (an absolutely
cruddy version), Mad Monster, The Corpse Vanishes, Robot Monster
(because of course they had to), The Slime People, Robot Holocaust,
Moon AZero Two, Untamed Youth, and The Black Scorpion. I also believe
it to be the worst of omissions that Rocketship X-M was not included as
that is one of my favorites.

Looking back through the Kickstarter email, the KTMA episodes were
announced by Joel in update #41 on 25th Nov 2016:

| So yeah, some of you already guessed it, but let's make it official:
|
| I'm happy to tell you that we finally found master tapes for two of
| the three "lost KTMA episodes" of *MST3K*: *Invaders from the Deep*,
| and *Revenge of the Mysterons from Mars.*
|
| I actually thought we had discovered copies of these episodes at one
| point during the Kickstarter last year, and I was really excited that
| I'd be able to finally share them with you... and then it turned out
| that we hadn't found them, and it was a real bummer. But then, earlier
| this year, a few final boxes turned up. And there they were: the *very
| first episodes* of MST3K ever made.
|
| So yeah: If your Kickstarter rewards include any of the "Classic MST3K
| Bonus Episodes", the two "lost episodes" are now waiting for you - a
| special "Happy Turkey Day" present from all of us at MST3K. (Just
| remember, though, these are *really* old episodes, so I hope you can
| look at them like a "first draft" of what the show would turn into.)

The list of classic episodes wasn't announced originally -- "Don't
worry, I'll pick some great episodes for you." It started out as 3
episodes then grew as the number of new episodes grew...

OK, then the question becomes, for those who didn't participate in the
kickstarter, is there any (preferrably legal) way to watch those two
episodes? I just did some googling, and all I could turn up was the
site https://mst3k.vhx.tv that has the two episodes, but they want,
get this, $999,999 to watch each episode. Since I don't have a spare
couple million dollars lying around, that ain't happening.

Yeah, that does seem kind of pricey, doesn't it?

For what it's worth, that was the site that was used to allow the
kickstart people to download the bonus episodes. I vaugely remember
something about them costing $999 each, like the price point was set
there so that it was easier to flag those episodes for download by the
kicksterters, or something similar.

Honestly, I'm kind of surprised that the 540p episodes haven't been
uploaded here or to the other two MST3K groups in the meantime.

I have no idea of the legality of this, but I eventually found KTAM 1
& 2 up on Archive.org. They were uploaded almost a year ago, so I'm
guessing if the powers that be didn't want them up there, they would
have been taken down by now.

I'm watching Invaders from the Deep and they were clearly still
working out the format - Joel's the only one in the theater and for
the most part he just sits there watching the movie. I don't think he
made more than a half dozen comments between the beginning of the
movie and the first commercial break.
