The president is a socialist. He is neutering the United States on the
world stage. He is spending us into bankruptcy. He is hellbent on
expanding national health care, which will surely lead to government death
panels.

He is advancing big-government agendas everywhere from Main Street to Wall
Street. And do we really know the truth about his personal history and
religion?

Perhaps the man in the Oval Office should be impeached — even tried for
treason.

If today’s extremist rhetoric sounds familiar, that’s because it is
eerily, poignantly similar to the vitriol aimed squarely at John F.
Kennedy during his presidency.

And just like today, Texans were leading what some of them saw as a moral
crusade.

To find the very roots of the tea party of 2013, just go back to downtown
Dallas in 1963, back to the months and weeks leading to the Kennedy
assassination. It was where and when a deeply angry political
polarization, driven by a band of zealots, burst wide open in America.

It was fueled then, as now, by billionaires opposed to federal oversight,
rabid media, Bible-thumping preachers and extremist lawmakers who had
moved far from their political peers. In 1963, that strident minority
hijacked the civic dialogue and brewed the boiling, toxic environment
waiting for Kennedy the day he died.

As he planned his trip to Dallas in November 1963, President Kennedy knew
that hundreds of thousands across Texas adored him — or at least,
respected the office he held. But he also knew that there was an
increasingly hysterical fringe.

As Kennedy approached Dallas, he turned to his wife, Jacqueline. “We’re
heading into nut country today,” he said.

Dallas Morning News publisher Ted Dealey had a loathing that became
particularly deeply personal. At a social luncheon for Texas news
executives in the State Dining Room of the White House, Dealey berated
Kennedy to his face: “We need a man on horseback to lead this nation — and
many people in Texas and the Southwest think that you are riding
Caroline’s tricycle.”

Back in Dallas, Dealey ordered his reporters to investigate whether
Kennedy had been married to another woman and whether the Kennedy dynasty
had somehow erased evidence of that marriage.

Not far away in downtown Dallas, oil billionaire H.L. Hunt was pouring
millions into a ceaseless anti-Kennedy radio campaign; it was the dawn of
extremist radio in the nation. Hunt’s program, “Life Line,” reached 10
million listeners a day with its scorching attacks against “the mistaken,”
the term Hunt’s announcers used to describe the president’s supporters.

When Kennedy proposed Medicare to provide health care for the elderly,
Hunt’s shows warned that government death panels would follow: “a package
which would literally make the president of the United States a medical
czar with potential life-or-death power over every man, woman and child in
the country.”

Hunt’s pastor in Dallas was the thundering W.A. Criswell, head of the
largest Baptist congregation in the country. Criswell was deeply
suspicious of the president’s Catholic religion, and he assailed Kennedy’s
candidacy as a possible plot that would undermine America’s true Christian
values.

Dallas was represented in Congress by an eloquent, Ivy League-educated
ideologue regarded by some as the most extreme politician in Washington.
Bruce Alger had cast the lone “no” vote against a federal program to
provide free surplus milk to needy children. Even among his conservative
peers, Alger was considered on the outer edge.

There was also Maj. Gen. Edwin A. Walker, the commander who had been
hailed as a hero for breaking the grip of segregation in Arkansas’
capital; he led the bayonet-carrying troops who escorted African-American
students to the doors of a Little Rock high school and kept order in the
streets afterwards. Within four years, Walker had been relieved of his
command by Kennedy’s defense secretary, Robert S. McNamara, after he was
accused of trying to brainwash his troops with ultra-right-wing
propaganda. The defrocked Walker moved to Dallas and was welcomed by the
mayor in a grand public ceremony.

Walker promoted anti-federal agendas as well as what were once quaintly
called “Southern traditions.” He made national headlines by instigating
bloody riots against James Meredith’s brave attempts to integrate the
University of Mississippi.

Many historians now agree that the blind absolutism of these powerful men
of Dallas in the early 1960s has been discredited.

But here we are in 2013 and the echo is painfully clear:

The ad hominem attacks against a “socialist president.” The howling
broadcasters. The mega-rich men from Texas funding the political action
campaigns. There is even another charismatic, Ivy-educated ideologue: Sen.
Ted Cruz would have been quite comfortable in Dallas 1963.

In the days leading to Kennedy’s fateful hour in Dallas, the city
experienced one dark moment after another. Swastikas were plastered on the
high-end emporium Neiman Marcus. A bomb threat was made during a visit by
the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. A cross was burned on the lawn of a
Holocaust survivor. U.N. Ambassador Adlai E. Stevenson II, in town for a
speech, fled for his life after being surrounded by a spitting mob.

It all occurred in a place where a few powerful people had marched far
from the political center and erected a firewall against reasoned debate.

Fifty years after Kennedy’s death, it is as if nothing has changed. As the
nation continues to sift for meaning in his tragedy, this is the most
aching lesson of all.

You are sick in the head and a tool of the DNC to dare try to relate the
tea party to Kennedy's killing! You Democrats can't debate the issues so
you resort to name-calling. Remember how evil you made Romney look? As you
lose your insurance and doctor and pay 50% more with a much larger
deductible just remember which party put you in that bind.

Christ! Does the Leftist hate for the Tea Party in specific and
conservatives in general know no bounds? Oswald was a card carrying
Marxist, Fidel loving Commie....historical fact. Yet, the hate mongers at
the Post salivate at the opportunity to lie ( yet again ) and try and say
JFK was set up due to Right wing hate.... everyone knows Jackie O put the
hit out on him becuase she was sleeping wiht Bobby and Ted !

You are dead center accurate about Oswald being Left Wing Liberal....

The interesting things which are coming out now, on the fiftieth
anniversary of the invention of the Camelot myth - is just how much
damage that myth did to the Democrat Party.
Because of their acceptance of the JFK administration as a Mythic
Camelot, like the original Camelot, the glory days of the Democrat
Party are now long in the past.

Alas, alack, how the mediocre have fallen.

A message of hope to Obama cultists
Posted on November 3, 2013 by The Matt Walsh Blog

Free yourselves.

Obama cultists: free yourselves.

Shed those chains of compliance and apathy. Walk free.

I’m not here to attack you. I’m here to reach out with a joyful
message of hope. I’m also not here to tell you to become a Republican.
I’m not a Republican; I’m proudly and aggressively unaffiliated with
any political party. And I know your immediate, visceral, instinctual
reaction, when someone challenges you or your Leader, is to shout,
“BUT YOU DIDN’T SAY THIS WHEN BUSH DID [xyz]!” Well, I was a kid when
Bush came into office, but for what it’s worth, I did criticize many
of his actions and policies. When he signed the No Child Left Behind
Act, for instance, I was vociferously opposed. And I let everyone at
the lunch table know about it.

So, I’ve disarmed your only defense mechanisms. You can’t bring
Republicans into this one, because I’m not a Republican. You can’t hit
me with the “you didn’t say this when Bush did…” routine, because I
did say it. I’ve taken your only shield, and now you stand before me;
naked, exposed.

Wait. Stop. Don’t run. This, my friends, is an intervention. For over
five years you’ve danced on the sidelines and cheered as the most
dishonest, manipulative, destructive, narcissistic, incompetent,
corrupt, liberty-hating, anti-constitutional president in US history
ran roughshod over the American people and the American way of life.
For over five years, my fellow countrymen, you’ve waved your pompoms
for a tyrant. Your Leader is not a good man. He can be redeemed, as we
can all be redeemed, but his actions have been truly heinous.
Remember: I don’t say that because I’m a Republican. I do not say it
because I’m a Bush fan. I say it because it’s true; and it’s a truth
that is entirely unavoidable.

Stop… No, stop right there. I can already hear you: “But.. but… but a
lot of presidents have done bad things.” Yes, yes they have. But we’re
talking about THIS president right now. And, it just so happens, THIS
president has done things that no other president would have dreamed
of doing.

Listen, I’m concerned about you. I did some research this morning,
which brought me to a website called CultClinic.org. This is a site
that’s supposed to help the family and friends of cult members. I
perused for a bit and found a list of Warning Signs That Someone Might
Be In A Cult:

•Thinking in black and white terms

•Using a new language/cultic jargon

•Saying goodbye to all old friends and only seeing people affiliated
with, or not critical of the cult

•Creating distance from family, especially during holidays and family
events

•Euphoric, yet simultaneously tired and worn

•Humorless

•A change in diet and sleep patterns

•Low on money

•Poor grades

•A dismissal of their life prior to involvement with the group as “all
bad”

•A change in goals, priorities, and life plan

•Return to child-like behavior

•Dogmatic adherence to new beliefs/ideas, with the inability, or lack
of interest to logically assess these new beliefs

•Secrecy

Good Lord. It’s worse than I thought. Obama Cultists exhibit all of
these traits.

Thinking in black and white terms? Check. Obama Cultists literally see
everything as a racial black and white issue (which is why they’ll
leave comments under this post accusing me of racism). Using new
jargon? Triple check. In a recent example, an Obama supporter told me
that all of the people who are getting their insurance canceled aren’t
“losing” it — they’re being “transitioned.” All of that stuff about
alienating family members? Check, but it’s worse than that. The modern
progressive wishes to alienate not just his own family, but the very
institution itself. Euphoric, yet tired and worn? Check. Can you think
of any better description of the “hope and change” routine from 2008?
Humorless? Checkcheckcheckcheckcheck. Huge, massive, gigantic check. A
change in diet? Check. Just talk to Michelle about that. Low on money?
Check. No president has expanded the Welfare State more than this one.
Poor grades? Well, admittedly, the aforementioned No Child Left Behind
Act makes this one a moot point. A dismissal of life prior to joining
cult? N/A. Hardly anyone ever goes from conservative to progressive.
The transformation almost always works the other way around. So, in
other words, if someone is a progressive, they’ve likely been one
their whole life. They’ll remain in that condition until they grow up.
A change in priorities and goals? Check. Isn’t that the very mission
of progressivism? Return to child like behavior? Check. Well, except
for the “return” part. Dogmatic adherence to beliefs? CHECK. A billion
times, check. Secrecy? Check. But the secrecy is on Obama’s part, and
his followers dutifully make excuses for it.

This is a chilling reality. I’ve always referred to Obama supporters
as “cultists,” but, for a while, I merely meant it pejoratively. Then
I began to realize that the term is literally true. Sure, Jim Jones
persuaded 900 people to drink cyanide, whereas Obama had trouble
convincing six people to buy health insurance from him. But let us not
assume that Obama’s Cult Leader powers have diminished. He ain’t much
of an insurance salesman, but the man has brainwashing methods that
would make Lyndon LaRouche jealous.

The Obama Cultist often accuses me of criticizing his Leader without
presenting “specifics” and “evidence.” Here’s how the conversation
usually works:

Me: Obama lied and said we’d all be able to keep our insurance plans!

Obama Cultist: You’re the liar! When did Obama ever say that?

Me: Here’s over 20 video clips of Obama saying exactly that.

Obama Cultist: … OH YEAH?! WELL WHERE WERE THE WEAPONS OF MASS
DESTRUCTION?!

No, really, every single conversation I’ve ever had with any Obama
Cultist has followed a trajectory very similar to this.

So, Obama Cultist, it’s just you and me right now. Nobody else. Pull
the blindfold off. Pull it off for just a moment. I’m going to give
you your specifics. I’m going to specifically explain why Obama is a
liar and a tyrant. Read this next part like a rational adult. Read it
like someone who wants the truth. I won’t tell on you. Your secret is
safe with me. And, at the end, if you want to go back into that mental
cave of submission, fear and blind allegiance — I won’t try to stop
you. But crawl out for a moment. Just a moment. And consider the
specifics.

Obama is a liar because:

-He sold his health care plan by GUARANTEEING, on MULTIPLE occasions,
that you can KEEP your plan if you like it. He could not have passed
the legislation through Congress, or sold it the American people,
without saying this. But it was a lie. A bold faced lie. It was a
statement presented as truth, despite the fact that it wasn’t true —
i.e. a “lie.” Whatever you think about the ACA, it is a profoundly
impactful law that will alter all of our lives in serious ways. A
good, honest and moral man would never sell something such as this by
lying about it. He did. He lied. There is no way around it. He said
you can keep your plan if you like it, when, in fact, the law DEPENDS
on you NOT being able to keep your plan if you like it. That’s a lie.
A terrible, awful, no-good lie, uttered by a terrible, awful no-good
man.

-Watch this. “No more spying on American citizens.” Do you know what
we call that when stated by the man who is in charge while the
government actually spies on every single citizen? A lie. Not a
“misrepresentation” or an “inaccuracy” — a lie. Plain and simple.

-This is a doozy. He lies, like, seven times in under two minutes. But
watch him as he unleashes this battery of bull crap. He has no
intention of doing any of these thing, and he didn’t do any of these
things, yet he lies to 300 million people without flinching. Even
Obama’s pals in the left wing press have dubbed his regime the most
“closed, control freak” administration in American history. Do you
know what you need to be good at if you want to run a closed, control
freak White House? Lying.

-My favorite brand of Obama Lie is when he says something on camera,
and then later denies having said the thing that we all saw and heard
him say. Here’s a good example. Obama, August 12, 2012: “A red line
for us, is the use of chemical weapons” in Syria. Obama, September 4,
2013: “I didn’t set a red line.” Bro, seriously?

-These are classic Obama lies because they also mix in a healthy dose
of cowardice. Dozen of meetings and briefings every day, but he claims
he finds out what his administration is really up to by watching CNN.
Way to lie AND insult the intelligence of every American, Mr.
President.

-Of course there’s the Throwback Obama lies, like when he covered up
his connection to Acorn, or his church, or Tony Rezko. There’s the
Obama Theatrics Lies, where he closes down privately funded monuments,
or ends White House tours (which are run by volunteers) to make some
sort of point about a shut down he caused, or a sequester he
specifically planned. There’s the Obama Scandal Lies, which we’ll
delve into in the next chapter. There’s the standard Broken Campaign
Promise Lie, such as the stories he told about his “intention” to
close Gitmo or end the wars overseas or repeal the Patriot Act (which
he’s repeatedly renewed). Or breaking his promise to not hire any
lobbyists, by hiring at least 40 lobbyists to work in his
administration. There’s the Diversion Lie, which isn’t a direct lie,
but a dishonest attempt to distract from important issues by making a
national story out of a radio host insulting some chick at Georgetown,
or an obscure 5th string NBA player coming out of the closet, or a
local police matter in Sanford, Florida. Obama lies come in many
forms, but probably the biggest lie he ever told is this.

You see, I only call the man a liar because he is, in fact, a
pathological, calculating, cheating, scamming, liar. I call him a liar
because he is a liar. Not because BUSH. Or because REPUBLICAN. Or
because RACISM. But because the man lies like he breathes.

Obama is a tyrant because:

-He has ordered 326 drone strikes in Pakistan, killing hundreds of
women and children. Tack on another few hundred in Yemen, Libya and
Somalia. Perhaps this is why, according to a new book, he bragged
about being “really good at killing people.”

-Obama has a “Kill List,” where he keeps track of his extrajudicial
murders. He assassinated an American citizen without charge or trial.
A few weeks later, he had that citizen’s 16 year old son killed for no
apparent reason. When his press secretary was asked why Obama murdered
an American teenager, he responded that the child “should have had a
more responsible father.”

-Obama attacks the evil “one percenters,” but has received more money
from Wall Street than any president in the last two decades.

-His IRS targeted conservative groups during the 2012 election cycle.
This effectively handicapped his opposition and silenced many of his
most passionate enemies.

-Obama has armed and/or funded drug cartels in Mexico, terrorists in
Libya, savage child murderers in Syria, and the Muslim Brotherhood in
Egypt.

-When his gun running operation from Libya to Syria went sideways, and
his ambassador was under siege in Benghazi, those that could have
helped were ordered to stand down. Then we were told lie after lie,
with the administration still, to this day, failing to come clean
about why the stand down order was given, why the compound was
attacked in the first place, what Obama was doing on the night of the
attack, and why they ever claimed a YouTube video had anything to do
with any of this.

-Obama’s Justice Department spied on the Associated Press and
threatened to prosecute a Fox News journalist for reporting on a
story.

-He’s funneled billions of dollars to banks and corporations, under
the guise of “bailouts.”

-He’s purged the military of commanders that don’t align with his
political ideology.

-Many of his agencies, from the VA, to the IRS, to the GSA, have
stolen tax money to splurge on boozy parties, trips to Disney World,
and “conferences” at swanky resorts.

-His HHS secretary has solicited “donations” from companies and
corporations that will be regulated under Obamacare.

-His NSA apparently spies on everyone in the galaxy, including, but
not limited to, all American citizens, foreign allies, and the Pope.

-He gave tax money to campaign contributors, and then called it an
“investment” in a green energy company. The company summarily went
bankrupt.

-His administration has aggressively prosecuted whistleblowers, even
going so far as to institute the “Insider Threat Program,” which
encourages government employees to spy on each other.

You see, I only call him a tyrant because he is, in fact, a murdering,
stealing, lying, despotic tyrant. Not because BUSH. Or because
REPUBLICAN. Or because RACISM. But because he is an abhorrent,
abominable dictator.

I’m trying to appeal to you, Obama Cultists, so I didn’t even mention
the most nefarious aspects of this man: his pro-abortion extremism.
He’s given more tax money to the abortion industry than any other
president. He still stands, I believe, as the only US president to
ever wish “blessings” on a room full of wealthy abortionists. He’s so
in love with abortion that he opposed a bill that would have protected
BORN INFANTS from being “aborted” after delivery. His refusal to
protect the most helpless among us makes him a spineless, gutless
scoundrel of the lowest order, but I won’t include that charge in this
deposition. I realize, as Obama Cultists, you’re probably rather fond
of this “procedure,” so it’s useless in this debate. Go here and here
to understand why you’re wrong on this subject.

In any case, let’s not allow our moment of unity to be derailed at the
very end. You must understand, Obama Cultists, I am here because I
worry for you. I want you to shrug off this self-imposed burden that
forces you to make apologies for the criminalities and tyrannies of a
narcissistic bureaucrat. You need not weigh yourselves down with such
a responsibility.

Free yourselves. You made a mistake with this Obama guy. It’s OK, we
all make mistakes. Admit it, apologize, and let’s move on.

Amen?

the economy, democracy and America itself were they ever to gain

Thank you for sharing it.
Wonder why the 47 percenters are so worried about the GOP? Maybe cuz the
GOP caves-in to the socialists 90% of the time.

And if any of you moonbats think that JFK bore any resemblance to today's
democrats, then you got your education about JFK from some revisionist
history book, or maybe Chris Matthews.

JFK didn't hate the US and wasn't a Marxist. He was one of the few Prezzes
who was a lifelong member of the NRA. I was there during his Presidency,
punk; didn't need to read about him in MotherJones. Can still recall mom
praying her rosary beads for his victory over Nixon. He was a true
democrat, for the working person, not the welfare State. That began under
LBJ.

stupidity preventing an economic recovery keeps the food stamps and welfare
going and growing. Taking more from the wealthy to give to the lazy is
redistribution. With every post you make, you show how clueless you really

How many socialists sit in Congress today?
'Progressive Caucus' linked to group seeking government ownership of
private industry

Democratic Left

WASHINGTON – The Democratic Socialists of America boasted in a
newsletter to insiders 70 of its members currently serve in Congress,
but an independent survey by WND suggests the number of actual avowed
or semi-secret socialists in the House and Senate is considerably
higher – at least 82.

The DSA is a political action committee and bills itself as the heir
to the defunct Socialist Party of America. It’s chief organizing
objective is to work within the Democratic Party as the primary, but
not sole, method of achieving public ownership of private property and
the means of production.

“Stress our Democratic Party strategy and electoral work,” explains an
internal organizing document obtained by WND. “The Democratic Party is
something the public understands, and association with it takes the
edge off. Stressing our Democratic Party work will establish some
distance from the radical subculture and help integrate you to the
milieu of the young liberals.”

In October 2009, the DSA newsletter reported that 70 congressional
Democrats are active members.

The group also claimed 11 socialists sit on the House Judiciary
Committee, including Chairman John Conyers, D-Mich.

The
hot new best-seller, “The Manchurian President,” by Aaron Klein,
reveals inside story on Team Obama and its members. Now available
autographed at WND’s Superstore!

But, according to an independent investigation by WND, the number of
those sympathetic to the socialist goals of the DSA is substantially
higher than 70.

In 1998, WND reported the close association between the DSA and the
Congressional Progressive Caucus. At that time, the caucus website was
actually hosted by the DSA. Following the revelation in WND, the
Progressive Caucus website became an official U.S. government website
as it remains today.

The Congressional Progressive Caucus website boasts 81 members as well
as resource links to numerous openly socialist publications and
organizations, reports WND Editor Joseph Farah in his column today.
Farah first broke the story of the DSA-Progressive Caucus link 12
years ago in a series titled “Congress’ Red Army Caucus.” (here and
here)

Those links include Mother Jones magazine, Moveon.org, OneWorld, The
Nation magazine, ACORN and the Institute for Policy Studies.

Rep. Mary Jo Kilroy, D-Ohio

Last week, WND reported that Rep. Mary Jo Kilroy, D-Ohio, is a member
of the DSA. She is not, however, listed on either the Progressive
Caucus website as a member or on the list of members published by the
DSA last year.

“By my count, Kilroy would make at least 82 members of the House and
Senate who are avowedly socialist,” Farah concludes.

The DSA makes clear its preference for working within the Democratic
Party for the change it seeks.

“Many socialists have seen the Democratic Party, since at least the
New Deal, as the key political arena in which to consolidate this
coalition, because the Democratic Party held the allegiance of our
natural allies,” the group states in the “Where we stand” section of
its website. “Through control of the government by the Democratic
Party coalition, led by anti-corporate forces, a progressive program
regulating the corporations, redistributing income, fostering economic
growth and expanding social programs could be realized.”

In addition to a national program of “massive redistribution of income
from corporations and the wealthy to wage earners and the poor and the
public sector,” the DSA also calls for a breaking down the
American-style notions of nationalism and national sovereignty.

“A program of global justice can unite opponents of transnational
corporations across national boundaries around a common program to
transform existing international institutions and invent new global
organizations designed to ensure that wages, working conditions,
environmental standards and social rights are ‘leveled up’ worldwide,”
the group says on its website. “The basis of cooperation for fighting
the transnationals must be forged across borders from its inception.
Economic nationalism and other forms of chauvinism will doom any
expanded anti-corporate agenda.”

It also states in the group’s mission statement: “A democratic
socialist politics for the 21st century must promote an international
solidarity dedicated to raising living standards across the globe,
rather than ‘leveling down’ in the name of maximizing profits and
economic efficiency. Equality, solidarity, and democracy can only be
achieved through international political and social cooperation aimed
at ensuring that economic institutions benefit all people. Democratic
socialists are dedicated to building truly international social
movements – of unionists, environmentalists, feminists, and people of
color – that together can elevate global justice over brutalizing
global competition.”

While the DSA tries to paint distinctions between its brand of
socialism and communism, before scrubbing its website following the
WND expose 12 years ago, the site included a song list that included:

“The Internationale,” the worldwide anthem of Communism and socialism.

“Red Revolution” sung to the tune of “Red Robin,” with these lyrics:
“When the Red Revolution brings its solution along, along, there’ll be
no more lootin’ when we start shootin’ that Wall Street throng. …”

“Are You Sleeping, Bourgeoisie?” Lyrics included: “Are you sleeping?
Are you sleeping? Bourgeoisie, Bourgeoisie. And when the revolution
comes, We’ll kill you all with knives and guns, Bourgeoisie,
Bourgeoisie.”

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is a longtime member of the Progressive
Caucus and served on the executive committee. She was not, however,
listed last year as a member of the DSA.

How many socialists sit in Congress today?
'Progressive Caucus' linked to group seeking government ownership of

WASHINGTON – The Democratic Socialists of America boasted in a

Many northern European countries enjoy tremendous prosperity and
relative economic equality thanks to the policies pursued by social
democratic parties. These nations used their relative wealth to insure
a high standard of living for their citizens—high wages, health care
and subsidized education.

And you for a lie.

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-04-18/to-thrive-euro-countries-must-cut-welfare-state.html

Many Danes had to pinch themselves a month ago when their new prime
minister, Helle Thorning-Schmidt, who heads a coalition of leftist
parties, launched a strategy document called Denmark 2032. This
addressed frankly the need for Denmark to define some tough spending
priorities. Its underlying presumption was that the universal welfare
state with its generous entitlements would not be able to survive in its
current form.

http://sciencenordic.com/opinion-danish-welfare-facing-break

Denmark is now discussing a break with the philosophy of universalism,
although social expenditure in the Nordic countries is no higher than in
Germany or France. Social policy experience tells us that universal
welfare schemes are the most redistributive and that welfare for the
poor always ends up as ‘poor welfare’.

In a column for Bloomberg, Anders Aslund elaborates on Sweden’s efforts
to reduce the size of the state.

Not so long ago, Sweden could claim world leadership in unmitigated
Keynesian economics, with a 90 percent marginal tax rate and a welfare
state second to none. …but in the last two decades the country has been
reformed. Public spending has fallen by no less than one-fifth of gross
domestic product, taxes have dropped and markets have opened up. …no
turnabout has been as dramatic as Sweden’s. From 1970 until 1989, taxes
rose exorbitantly, killing private initiative, while entitlements became
excessive. Laws were often altered and became unpredictable. As a
consequence, Sweden endured two decades of low growth. In 1991-93, the
country suffered a severe crash in real estate and banking that reduced
GDP by 6 percent. Public spending had surged to 71.7 percent of GDP in
1993, and the budget deficit reached 11 percent of GDP. …Sweden’s
traditional scourge is taxes, which used to be the highest in the world.
The current government has cut them every year and abolished wealth
taxes. Inheritance and gift taxes are also gone. Until 1990, the maximum
marginal income tax rate was 90 percent. Today, it is 56.5 percent. That
is still one of the world’s highest, after Belgium’s 59.4 and there is
strong public support for a cut to 50 percent. The 26 percent tax on
corporate profits may seem reasonable from an American perspective, but
Swedish business leaders want to reduce it to 20 percent.

Interestingly, the Swedish people and the Swedish elite (just like the
Estonians, as I discussed in my takedown of Paul Krugman) seem to
understand that there’s no going back to the statist era of the 1970s
and 1980s.

That's right:

Under Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeld, Sweden has started to
move away from the traditional strong social welfare state.
Reinfeld came to power in 2006, ending the long-standing rule of
social democrats and vowing to fix the welfare system. He has
since cut income taxes and reined in benefits.

"Sweden's economy and society has been normalizing with the rest
of Europe," Lea said, adding that there had been a "mutual
love-in"between Reinfeld and other center right governments.

Andreas Jonsson, economist at Nordea, agreed that the perception
of Sweden as a hybrid between capitalism and socialism was
perhaps somewhat outdated, and that this view added to surprise
over the recent events.
http://www.cnbc.com/id/100757907

Scandinavia’s weakest economy can no longer afford the kinds of
entitlements its citizens were raised on, according to Danish
Finance Minister Bjarne Corydon.

“We live in a world of global competition for jobs,” the
40-year-old minister said in an interview in Copenhagen. “For any
finance minister wanting to be taken seriously, it’s something to
deal with. That requires a modernization of the welfare state.”

Denmark this week cut its economic forecast and predicted a
widening budget deficit. The AAA rated nation, whose economy
contracted 0.2 percent in the first half, needs to contain
welfare spending or risk losing the respect of investors, Corydon
said. Danes, who like Swedes and Norwegians, are used to generous
jobless pay as well as state-financed education and health care,
need to learn that those privileges come at a cost, he said.

“We could spend more if we were willing to pay the price,”
Corydon said. “But the price would be to create distrust and
uncertainty.” Denmark’s challenge now is to ensure its welfare
habits don’t leave it unable to compete with populations that
work harder at a lower cost, he said.

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-08-30/scandinavia-s-weakest-nation-finding-welfare-habits-unaffordable.html

Policymakers responded to these near-death experiences by
changing their habits, above all by putting their budgets back
into balance. The Swedes, for instance, reduced their national
debt from 84% of GDP in 1996 to 49% in 2011. They also tackled
entitlements to take account of ageing populations. In 1998
Sweden passed the most sweeping pension reform in any rich
country, replacing a defined-benefit system with a defined-
contribution one and bringing pensions more in line with lifetime
incomes.

Denmark has been slower than Sweden to clean out its closets.
Public spending as a proportion of GDP increased from 51% to 58%
after the 2007-08 financial crisis and is now the highest in the
OECD. But the pace of reform is speeding up. In 2006 Denmark
increased the state pension age from 65 to 67, to be phased in by
2024-27. In 2010 it halved the upper limit on paying out
unemployment benefit from four to two years. In 2011 it hastened
the demise of an early-retirement scheme which gave some people
the option to leave at 60. In 2012 it announced plans to increase
the differential between wages and benefits.

Santa Claus may have trimmed his beard - but you can hardly notice.

In the Nordic states there is a much stronger social safety net for
anyone who loses a job or becomes ill or gets old etc. They have much
better public education too and 30% of the workforce is working for
govt.

It is hilarious to see the Nordic countries held up

You might have thought the "Democratic" bit would have given them a
clue.

The DSA are social democrats aiming for the prosperity of Sweden,
Finland, Switzerland and other such notable communist states.
[sarcasm].

http://www.dsausa.org/what_is_democratic_socialism

Why are there no models of democratic socialism?
A:

Although no country has fully instituted democratic socialism, the
socialist parties and labor movements of other countries have won many
victories for their people. We can learn from the comprehensive
welfare state maintained by the Swedes, from Canada’s national health
care system, France’s nationwide childcare program, and Nicaragua’s
literacy programs. Lastly, we can learn from efforts initiated right
here in the US, such as the community health centers created by the
government in the 1960s. They provided high quality family care, with
community involvement in decision-making.

But hasn't the European Social Democratic experiment failed?
A:

Many northern European countries enjoy tremendous prosperity and
relative economic equality thanks to the policies pursued by social
democratic parties. These nations used their relative wealth to insure
a high standard of living for their citizens—high wages, health care
and subsidized education.

Most importantly, social democratic parties supported strong labor
movements that became central players in economic decision-making. But
with the globalization of capitalism, the old social democratic model
becomes ever harder to maintain.

Stiff competition from low-wage labor markets in developing countries
and the constant fear that industry will move to avoid taxes and
strong labor regulations has diminished (but not eliminated) the
ability of nations to launch ambitious economic reform on their own.

Social democratic reform must now happen at the international level.
Multinational corporations must be brought under democratic controls,
and workers’ organizing efforts must reach across borders

Socialism *IS* communism. Theoretical communism contains a lot of empty
blabber and puffery about the evolution of a "stateless" society, but
the dedicated enemies of liberty who call themselves "communist" have no
intention of ever getting there. Once in power, they have no intention

Prezzes who was a lifelong member of the NRA. I was there during his
Presidency, punk; didn't need to read about him in MotherJones. Can
still recall mom praying her rosary beads for his victory over Nixon.
He was a true democrat, for the working person, not the welfare State.
That began under LBJ.
Proggie twits just hate the fact that JFK was murdered by a Communist.
Ironic, isn't it? (Yeh, I voted for him.)
Oswald was a hired gun, period. The Federal Reserve bankers had him
killed because he was removing the US off of dependency on Federal
Reserve Notes. They are the only ones with the motive.
The FR had offices in Minsk and Moscow?
The USSR despised JFK even before the Cubam missile crisis.
The FED bankers had the most to lose therefore the most motive.

In Rimma's account as described by Norman Mailer in Oswald's Tale
(pp.44-45) (he only paraphrases her), Oswald told her did not want to
return to the US--there was no sense to it. His mother had remarried and
was no longer interested in him. Nobody was interested in him. When he
served as a Marine in the Far East he had seen much suffering and the US
had fomented unjust wars in which he did not want to take part. She had the
impression that he had seen combat. He had read that the Soviet people
lived good, useful, and very peaceful lives and he had come here to see
this for himself. Now he wanted to stay, he repeated. This was a proper
country for his political views.

"Oswald's marksmanship

The Warren Commission examined the capabilities of the Carcano rifle
and ammunition, as well as Oswald's military training and
post-military experience, and determined that Oswald had the ability
to fire three shots within a time span of 4.8 to 5.6 seconds.[144]
According to their report, an army specialist using Oswald's rifle was
able to duplicate the feat and even improved on the time. The report
also states that the Army Infantry Weapons Evaluation Branch test
fired Oswald's rifle 47 times and found that it was "quite accurate",
comparing it to the accuracy of an M-14 rifle. Also contained in the
Commission report is testimony by Marine Corps Major Eugene Anderson
confirming that Oswald's military records show that he qualified as
"sharpshooter" in 1956. But this is confronted with more detailed
record of his shooting abilities. According to official Marine Corps
records Oswald was tested in shooting, scoring 212 in December 1956
(slightly above the minimum for qualification as a sharpshooter - the
intermediate category), but in May 1959 scoring only 191 (barely
earning the lower designation of marksman - the lowest category of
skilled shooter, but still above undesignated shooters). He never
approached the highest marksmanship category in the Marine Corps - the
Expert. Conspiracy theorists such as Walt Brown and authors such as
Richard H. Popkin contend that Oswald was a notoriously poor shot, his
rifle was inaccurate, and that no one has ever been able to duplicate
his ability to fire three shots within the time frame given by the
Warren Commission.[145][146] FBI marksman Robert Frazier who tested
the rifle in two sets of tests testified to the Warren Commission that
he could not reach the 5.6 second mark for firing three shots and all
his shots fired five inches high and five inches to the right due to
an uncorrectable deficiency in the telescopic sight.[147]"

One person known to be shooting from the grassy knoll was Abraham
Zapruder, along with his receptionist Marilyn Sitzman who was
steadying him on the concrete wall.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marilyn_Sitzman
"When the shots rang out, the [young black] couple ran along the path
to the area behind the pergola. Sitzman recalled hearing a soda bottle
breaking as they ran. Asked if she saw anyone else in this area
between the concrete wall and the stockade fence, Sitzman said no,
only the couple."

The soda bottle is a reasonable explanation for the fourth sharp sound
and puff of 'smoke' others reported on the grassy knoll.

the unbalanced fanatics that have destroyed the GOP and would destroy
the economy, democracy and America itself were they ever to gain
power.
Feel free to compare and contrast. But of course you won't You
wingers can never back up your absurd assertions.
1. He was fiercely anti-Communist. Fighting communism – and the socialist
ideals behind it – was one of JFK’s most passionate causes. His
anti-communism rhetoric was very similar to President Harry Truman’s, and
he was continually quoted by conservative presidents throughout the
duration of the Cold War. This is one of Kennedy’s more memorable
descriptions of communism:

” Communism has never come to power in a country that was not disrupted by
war or corruption, or both. “

2. He was Ronald Reagan’s economic role model. JFK was fiscally
conservative. He appointed a Republican Wall Street banker as Treasury
secretary, and his widespread tax cuts served as the basis for Reagan’s
plan in 1981. In 1962, Kennedy stated:

“The federal government’s most useful role is . . . to expand the
incentives and opportunities for private expenditures. . . . [I]t is a
paradoxical truth that tax rates are too high today and tax revenues are
too low and the soundest way to raise the revenues in the long run is to
cut the rates now.”

While President Kennedy was neither completely liberal nor completely
conservative, and he certainly wasn’t a perfect president, he upheld
conservative values when it came to two of his main causes: anti-communism
and fiscal policy.

Maybe his ability to cross ideological lines was just because he led in a
simpler, more unified time, but maybe it was also due to the fact that he
didn’t let his political affiliations keep him away from good ideas. To
many during the Kennedy years and earlier, conservative was not synonymous
with Republican; rather, conservatism was seen as the responsible way of
doing things.

Today, many of our leaders get so caught up in pleasing their political
parties and campaign donors that they overlook the most common-sense
solutions. And that is irresponsible, regardless of what year it is.

Are you saying that anyone not of the rightwing is a Socialist? That
means that MOST of the population, by your own standards, would be
socialist. That cannot be accepted.
I'm saying that a socialist is a socialist, punk.

I was a democrat for 48 years, beginning probably before the best part of
you ran down your momma's thighs, and the dem party today ain't the party I
joined.

You socialists cannot be accepted and should be exterminated.

Considering we are both the same age then I doubt you. I was a
Republican as well but due to it being hijacked by Teabirches it's not
fit to be around. Not to say the People shouldn't be around just the
party as it is. But it's getting ready to change or die. Considering
it grew out of the Whigs which lost all contact with the public, history
should be remembered.

I don't think socialists should be literally exterminated; just
politically. I'd like to see socialists completely marginalized. That
would be a very good thing.

cuz the GOP caves-in to the socialists 90% of the time.

Indeed. Kennedy was one of the last Conservative Democrats in most
of his actions. A combat veteran with the world view of one.

And it was the actions of Leftists who killed him, to feed the
military industrial complex..gave us Vietnam in all its glory..and
start the US onto the slide to hell that we are undergoing today.

15 Reasons Obama is the greatest President!

1) He's sending weapons to Libya to help repair America's strained
relationship with Al-Qaeda.

2) Parents all across the country can now point to Barack Obama's
performance when they're explaining to their children why they shouldn't use
drugs.

3) He won the Nobel Peace Prize. Hello!

4) Thanks to healthcare.gov, "New Coke" no longer has to bear the shame of
being the worst product roll-out in American history.

5) Because of Obama, 91 million people without jobs now have plenty of time
to spend with their family.

6) He extended childhood all the way up to 26 by allowing "children" to stay
on their parents insurance until then.

7) He's kept goofy Uncle Joe Biden from becoming President for five long
years.

8) No President in American history has done more to further gun sales than
Barack Obama.

9) Without Barack Obama, none of us would have ever heard the name Sandra
Fluke and what a tragedy that would be!

10) He has already broken Bill Clinton's record for the most lies told in
one presidency with three years left to go in office.

11) When the SEALS asked for permission to kill Bin Laden, he didn't insist
that they merely give Osama a good talking to instead.

12) He has worked tirelessly to know the American people better through
invasive TSA searches, reading their emails, and listening in on their phone
calls.

13) He's living proof that even a pothead who thinks there are 57 states can
still live the American dream.

14) Because of Obama's economic policies, more Americans than ever have
gotten to experience the sweet, sweet joy of funemployment!

15) Obama's policies are so bad that even real racists have stopped hating
him for being black and hate him for his failed policies.

A Muslin shouting "Death to America" cannot be put on the terrorist watch
list since Obama had it rewritten. A war veteran shouting "Support the
Constitution" can be... waking up yet?

An excellent and timely reminder of the evil lurking in the heart of
the left.

No, the Tea Party does not have any "roots" in the mythical "climate of
hate" fabricated by left-wing stooges who have controlled academia over
the last 50 years.

An excellent and timely reminder of the evil lurking in the heart of
the unbalanced fanatics that have destroyed the GOP and would destroy
the economy, democracy and America itself were they ever to gain
power.

millions into a ceaseless anti-Kennedy radio campaign; it was the dawn
of extremist radio in the nation. Hunt’s program, “Life Line,” reached
10 million listeners a day with its scorching attacks against “the
mistaken,”

the term Hunt’s announcers used to describe the president’s supporters.
When Kennedy proposed Medicare to provide health care for the elderly,
Hunt’s shows warned that government death panels would follow: “a
package which would literally make the president of the United States

the country.”
Hunt’s pastor in Dallas was the thundering W.A. Criswell, head of the
largest Baptist congregation in the country. Criswell was deeply
suspicious of the president’s Catholic religion, and he assailed

values.
Dallas was represented in Congress by an eloquent, Ivy League-educated
ideologue regarded by some as the most extreme politician in
Washington. Bruce Alger had cast the lone “no” vote against a federal
program to provide free surplus milk to needy children. Even among his
conservative peers, Alger was considered on the outer edge.
There was also Maj. Gen. Edwin A. Walker, the commander who had been
hailed as a hero for breaking the grip of segregation in Arkansas’
capital; he led the bayonet-carrying troops who escorted
African-American students to the doors of a Little Rock high school
and kept order in the streets afterwards. Within four years, Walker
had been relieved of his command by Kennedy’s defense secretary,
Robert S. McNamara, after he was accused of trying to brainwash his
troops with ultra-right-wing propaganda. The defrocked Walker moved to
Dallas and was welcomed by the mayor in a grand public ceremony.
Walker promoted anti-federal agendas as well as what were once
quaintly called “Southern traditions.” He made national headlines by
instigating bloody riots against James Meredith’s brave attempts to
integrate the University of Mississippi.
Many historians now agree that the blind absolutism of these powerful
men of Dallas in the early 1960s has been discredited.
The ad hominem attacks against a “socialist president.” The howling
broadcasters. The mega-rich men from Texas funding the political
action campaigns. There is even another charismatic, Ivy-educated
Sen.

Ted Cruz would have been quite comfortable in Dallas 1963.
In the days leading to Kennedy’s fateful hour in Dallas, the city
experienced one dark moment after another. Swastikas were plastered on

high-end emporium Neiman Marcus. A bomb threat was made during a visit
by the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. A cross was burned on the lawn of a
Holocaust survivor. U.N. Ambassador Adlai E. Stevenson II, in town for
a speech, fled for his life after being surrounded by a spitting mob.
It all occurred in a place where a few powerful people had marched far
from the political center and erected a firewall against reasoned debate.
Fifty years after Kennedy’s death, it is as if nothing has changed. As

Yes and wouldn't you just love to see those TEA Party types rounded up
and killed? Because that is exactly where insane blather like that is
going.
Research the Third Reich and see how Jews were referred to before being
carted off for industrial scale extermination. People like you are
dangerous.
But unlike 30s Germany where the Jews were systematiclly
disarmed....here in the US...trying to take arms away from the
Right...will only end poorly for those attempting the taking.

The Send American Revolution will evolve much the way the French
Revolution did. The everyday citizens will simply kill those in power.

A few facts for you...

http://archive.jta.org/article/1938/01/23/2840938/reich-jewish-population-declined-onethird-135000-left-in-5-years
"Reich Jewish Population Declined One-third; 135,000 Left in 5 Years."
Jewish Telegraphic Agency 23 Jan 1938.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_Jews_in_Germany
...
In January 1933, some 522,000 Jews lived in Germany. Over half
(approximately 304,000), emigrated during the first six years of the Nazi
dictatorship, leaving only approximately 214,000 Jews in Germany proper
(1937 borders) on the eve of World War II.
...

http://www.ushmm.org/outreach/en/article.php?ModuleId=10007687
According to the census of June 1933, the Jewish population of Germany
consisted of about 500,000 people. Jews represented less than one percent
of the total German population of about 67 million people.

The population of Germany in 1939 was around 80 million:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Census_in_Germany#1871_-_1945_German_Reich

First concentration camps were established in 1933:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazi_concentration_camps
and that is well before the 1938 gun law changes.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_politics_in_Germany#The_Third_Reich.27s_Discrimination_Policy_.26_1938_German_Weapons_Act

So - let's call the population of Jews in 1938 an even 200K. Take half
as adults, so even assuming you arm the women, that's around 100K.

Spread over the country. A country of EIGHTY MILLION.

Do the math.

It is altogether amazing how your kind don't think things through.

An epic fail in the first line.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Wilkes_Booth

Wilkes Booth, Lincoln's killer was a conservative, a member of the
Know Nothing Party, the Tea Baggers of his time.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Wilkes_Booth

Booth was interested in the theatre and in politics, becoming a
delegate from Bel Air to a rally by the Know Nothing Party for Henry
Winter Davis, the anti-immigrant party's candidate for Congress in the
1854 elections.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Know_Nothing

Use of the term

The Nativist spirit of the Know Nothing movement was revived in later
political movements, such as the Ku Klux Klan of the 1920s and the
American Protective Association of the 1890s.[28] In the late 19th
century, Democrats would call the Republicans "Know Nothings" in order
to secure the votes of Germans, as in the Bennett Law campaign in
Wisconsin in 1890.[29][30] A similar culture war took place in
Illinois in 1892, where Democrat John Peter Altgeld denounced the
Republicans:

The spirit which enacted the Alien and Sedition laws, the spirit
which actuated the "Know-nothing" party, the spirit which is forever
carping about the foreign-born citizen and trying to abridge his
privileges, is too deeply seated in the party. The aristocratic and
know-nothing principle has been circulating in its system so long that
it will require more than one somersault to shake the poison out of
its bones.[31]

The term has become a provocative slur, suggesting that the opponent
is both nativist and ignorant. George Wallace's 1968 presidential
campaign was said by Time to be under the "neo-Know Nothing banner".
Fareed Zakaria wrote that politicians who "encourage[d] Americans to
fear foreigners" were becoming "modern incarnations of the
Know-Nothings."

[28] In 2006, an editorial in The Weekly Standard by neoconservative
William Kristol accused populist Republicans of "turning the GOP into
an anti-immigration, Know-Nothing party."[32]

The lead editorial of the May 20, 2007, edition of The New York Times
on a proposed immigration bill, referred to "this generation's
Know-Nothings."[33]

An editorial written by Timothy Egan[who?] in The New York Times on
August 27, 2010, entitled "Building a Nation of Know-Nothings"
discussed the Birther movement, which falsely claimed that Barack
Obama was not a natural-born United States citizen, which is a
requirement for the office of President of the United States.

A kindred spirit of your's actually Roger.

The Know Nothing Party is the party Obama belongs to. Every scandal that
comes along in the Obama administrations, Obama "knows nothing" about. He's
either such a liar or such an incompetent boob that, either way, he
shouldn't be president.

The Know Nothing Party and the KKK were both Democrat parties. It's the
Democrats that opposed abolition of slavery, you need to quit learning
history from a magic 8 ball!

The only interest the Democrats have ever had in black people is to use
them, first as slaves, now for votes to enslave America.
