For a year, Martha Jones wandered the Earth, telling everyone how
wonderful the Doctor is and telling everyone to think "Doctor" as hard
as they can just as Earth's fleet is going to launch to attack the
universe (and spread the word to everyone else). The collective
"Doctor" thought is transmitted by the Archangel network, generating
psychic energy that reverses the aging the Master inflicted on the
Doctor and breaks the Master's hold on humanity.

Why didn't any of the humans serving the Master tell him about the plan
for everyone to think the word "Doctor"? Surely word of the plan would
have reached them, since Martha had told her listeners to spread the
word of the "think 'Doctor'" plan far and wide.

The Doctor attempts to provide psychological counseling to the Master,
while Captain Jack attacks the Paradox Machine. Jack succeeds in
reversing time by a year and a day to just before the Toclafane spheres
appeared (but why couldn't time be reversed just a few more minutes to
undo the assassination of U.S. President Winter?). The spheres are
trapped, and the Master is arrested and remanded into the Doctor's
custody (The Doctor wants to care for the Master, as the Master is the
only other member of his species alive in the entire universe! I find
that attitude to be fascinating, given that the two have been enemies
for centuries!). However, a woman shoots the Master, and he lets
himself die. The Doctor collapses in a weeping heap (for the first time
I know of since Rose got stranded in a parallel universe) and then
cremates the Master. Now we know how Time Lords dispose of their dead!

During the time reversal sequence, why is the moon orbiting opposite the
Earth's spin?

At the end, the Doctor is offering to take Martha on another time
journey. How can he do so, when he PERMANENTLY fused the TARDIS'
circuits to limit it to two times: The present and 100 trillion AD!?

Meanwhile, the Master's watch rises out of the ashes of the Master's
funeral pyre, and someone with long red fingernails picks it up. Kudos
to the Master for yet another slick escape!

At the very end, the TARDIS somehow embeds itself on the side of the
Titanic. Is that what sank the Titanic?

It was a ring. Don't know, who picked it up. But it looked like the
hand of one of the end of time pointy teethed creatures. Where the
symbols on the ring the same as the symbols on the watch?

No, but they were seen in episode 7.

And it looked like the hand of Lucy...

As far as I know, it WAS a ring - it was taken off a finger.

A popular theory is that it was the Rani who took it - she would be another
time lord secret weapon recruited for the time war like the Master was. *

P.S. Interesting bit about the Face of Boa.
Boe.

What sold it was the looks of incredulity on the faces of Martha
and The Doctor.

Looks like Sci Fi trimmed two bits from the end, though, unless
I missed them somehow:

Just before the scene where Captain Jack makes his farewell, there's
a scene in which Martha runs up Professor Docherty (the woman who
betrayed her in "the year that never was") at whatever university
she works at, and gives her a bouquet of flowers, and says, "Just to
say I don't blame you." She runs off, leaving the professor puzzled.

And as Martha walks out of her parents' house to talk to The Doctor,
she calls the hospital and asks for Doctor Tom Milligan (the guy
who helped her after she returned to Britain). She hangs up after
he answers, and smiles, as if to suggest she's going to try to
take up with him.

Also trimmed the "I Can't Decide" scene, Martha's family planning to
kill The Master, and her Mom thinking about shooting him.

Many other small scenes as well.

We watched it with the UK version playing in the background to see
what was cut.

Not surprised. I'd seen the UK version, so with the Sci Fi airings,
I just sort of have it on in the background while I'm doing other
things. Which is why I thought I might've missed the scenes I
mentioned.

He comes from the "Bo" peninsula.
Well, the Boeshayne Penisula. Presumably, it's colloquially known
as "Boe".

But more than that, he said he became a poster boy when he was
picked to be a Time Agent, and people referred to him as "the
face of Boe".

Socrates taught his students that the pursuit of truth can only begin once
they start to question and analyze every belief that they ever held dear. If
a certain belief passes the tests of evidence, deduction, and logic, it
should be kept. If it doesn't, the belief should not only be discarded, but
the thinker must also then question why he was led to believe the erroneous

Too sadistic for my taste at the beginning; Captain Jack has very little to
do for most of the episode; the Doctor's sanctimony gets a little grating
after awhile; too padded and dragged out.

On the positive side, I liked the tie to the "Utopia" episode.

I'm not sure about the Face of Bo ...

How is it that the burned out Universe of 100 Trillion AD supported enough humans to make up that immense Toclaphane fleet?

You don't know how long humanity had on Utopia to increase their numbers
before the Master perverted them into the Toclafane. Nor what resources
were required, how many natural individuals or gengineered clones were
created ... All you know is the on screen fact that there were countless
millions of Toclafane.

The Doctor had fused the time circuits, so the TARDIS would not have been able to take the Master futurewards of "Utopia", so the population of Utopia would not have had time to increase!

Also, I got the impression from the Toclaphane Martha et al interviewed that living conditions on the planet Utopia were very poor, which would prevent a population increase.

Yeah, cos China India and Africa show that. Poor people with minimal
resources reproduce at a very low rate. Not.

And again, cloning ...

Not very fond of the "magical" ending. I liked the the why they
remember being explained. Ask them if they remember, tell it strong and
clear if they do not.

Cut to hell.

So many good scenes cut out. I am so glad I download them right after

Why didn't the Doctor stay by the Master's funeral pyre until the fire
had gone out? Wouldn't leaving a burning fire be in violation of both
Earth and Gallifreyan safety regulations?

I believe there aren't any real humans left in the future, correct? They
all went off and became the Toclophane?

The pyre was in the middle of a quarry, so I seriously doubt any sparks
would have flown off anywhere and caused any damage. No harm, no foul.

Okay. You got us. They never said it. They thought that the fact that
the scene took place there was enough. (It's the same planet and time
as Utopia. You can see that's where it is. Unless for some reason, the
doctor took him to a part of present-day earth that looks just like it
down to the end-of-the-universe night sky hanging above them.

No one had to say, it happens in the same quarry where Utopia took
place--in the future. http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2hge5bq&s=2

IIRC, there was some speculation here when the episode first aired in UK
that Lucy might have
snuck aboard the Tardis and followed the Doctor, or perhaps she asked
him to take her there and she stayed in the Tardis while he set the
pyre...or she snuck out afterward, I don't know. It may not even have
been Lucy's red fingernails we saw--maybe the Master's spirit jumped
into Lucy's body and she was the one that died, not Harry.

So many questions! :-)

Same here. It just looked like a generic quarry setting to me.
Obviously we don't have the true Doctor Who fan's finely tuned ability
to distinguish between different quarries from only the tiniest glimpse.

Same here. It just looked like a generic quarry setting to me. Obviously
we don't have the true Doctor Who fan's finely tuned ability to
distinguish between different quarries from only the tiniest glimpse.
And you never know when that might be useful.

The original DW even did a gag about this during the Tom Baker era;
the Doctor and Sarah Jane land the TARDIS in a desolate landscape and
wander around for a while before discovering they are in fact on
Earth. In a rock quarry.

Doctor Who uses an awful lot of quarries so we have experience at this sort
of thing.

What does that have to do with present day fire regulations?
Um, the Doctor went into the future to burn the Master's body, not in
the present day!
At what point in the episode did someone say that the Doctor was going
into the future just to burn a body?
No one had to say, it happens in the same quarry where Utopia took
place--in the future. http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2hge5bq&s=2
IIRC, there was some speculation here when the episode first aired in UK
that Lucy might have
snuck aboard the Tardis and followed the Doctor, or perhaps she asked him
to take her there and she stayed in the Tardis while he set the pyre...or
she snuck out afterward, I don't know. It may not even have been Lucy's
red fingernails we saw--maybe the Master's spirit jumped into Lucy's body
and she was the one that died, not Harry.
So many questions! :-)
Wow, that completely sailed past me. I didn't notice at all that the Doctor
was back at that planet.
I didn't notice either, as I had assumed that the Doctor would not deem it
necessary to time travel just to hold a funeral! Holding a funeral is not on
my list of reasons to travel in time!

Forgot to mention--remember how he 'burned up a star' to say goodbye to
Rose? Many thought that was 'wasteful', but not the Doctor. He needs to
tie up loose ends when he can. This is his way of saying goodbye (he
thinks, because I don't think the Master is really gone).

I don't think he _caused_ the supernova. He probably just found a star
that was exploding naturally anyway and used that. Telling Rose he was
"burning up a star" was just his way of being poetic.

I doubt it. A year has passed, remember, and he's trying to destroy the
world, not repopulate it with litte Masters...he was also messing around

The Master had already taken Lucy to the far future, to fill her
with angst about what this will all coming to. Perhaps she snuck
away from _him_ and found the funeral. That would explain why
she shot him for no apparent reason. Otherwise it looks like she
was the most transparent way the writers could kill the master
without getting blood on the hands of our heroes (or even
recurring characters).

In "Utopia" they looked human to me!

I wonder of any "Future Race" people ended up in those spheres.

Nearly perfect episode.
Lots of twists I really wasn't expecting.
Hope you know who isn't really gone!

After the Master took over, I wonder if Al-Qaida ever tried to attack
his forces, or if the Master's foes in the West tried to ally with
Al-Qaida.

4.0. This improved on a second viewing - the doctor's recovery made sense
when I didn't miss the bit that says he mentally attached himself to the
satellite network. That makes it much less tinkerbell. *

they start to question and analyze every belief that they ever held dear. If
a certain belief passes the tests of evidence, deduction, and logic, it

When the Master ages the Doctor with his magic laser screwdriver, the
Doctor moves quickly, as if time is moving quickly. If so, why doesn't
the Doctor die of hunger and thirst?

That would be a good question if the premise was true. Time is not
moving quickly. The Doctor appears to be moving quickly for some other
reason, perhaps because the physical shape of his body is changing
very rapidly.

We know this because the Master *explicitly tells us* how the aging
effect works: he isn't manipulating time, he's manipulating the
Doctor's DNA, ordering it to reshape his body *as if* he were
physically much older. He is using the same process as Lazarus had
used (albeit a refinement to avoid trhe nasty "Giant Spider Monster"
side effects).

So, no time manipulation, so no reason he'd starve or dehydrate.

This is not conjecture: we're told on-screen how it works.

THe *real* question is this: How did the master build a Laser
Screwdriver, deliberately eschewing Sonic, to perform this task, given
that the Lazarus process *was itself fundamentally based on sonic
manipulation*?

We have never been told that the Doctor has to eat or drink. Or breathe?
He can, but he just goes on living if he does not.
