Supervillain. The new "thing" in comic book movies is supervillain movies.

Also worth noting that the huge majority of those on the list will never
be made. Or at least not in our lifetimes. Studios and streamers long
since reached the point of buying rights to any book that sells well or
gets serious buzz. Most of them stay in development hell for decades.

That is indeed a lot. I've heard good things about "The Witcher" and I'll of course watch at least one episode of "Dune". "The Color out of Space" looks intriguing. And unless they've radically changed the plot, "Death on the Nile" doesn't qualify as SF/F.

Apart from those, nothing really leaps out but I'll probably look closer at "The Three Body Problem" and "Wheel of Time" when they get closer to release.

Most of the "In the works" listings are just stuff that's been optioned and will never be made. But I'd watch "Astro City", just because it's written by long time rasfw denizen Kurt Busiek.

Too many. I suspect more than a few will bomb and the glut will dry up somewhat.

And according to Wikipedia, Dawn French, Jennifer Saunders,

If it changed enough to qualify, though, it /might/ be a better movie
than the remake of /Murder on the Orient Express/.

Sometimes I wonder if anyone out there even /remembers/ how to make a

I /would/ say that she is just a villain, but any definition of
"super" that excludes her would also exclude Batman, so I won't
bother.

She's definitely worth watching, however.

Heck, there are even versions of "super" that exclude Batman and _not_ her!

Don't forget, Ivy gave her a serum that gives her mild super-strength,

Try 'Ford vs Ferrari'. It's a great, historically based tale of obsession, drive, and clashes of personality and culture.

It also has cars.

Seriously though, you don't have to be a gear head to enjoy this. My wife certainly isn't, and she loved it, much to her surprise.

I'm a racer and I got invited to an early screening of the movie...

...and yes: they get enough details about car racing wrong to irritate
real racers...

...but it's still a great movie about a cool thing that really happened.

I haven't seen the movie and was planning not to being biased as 3 of
the 4 successful Ford drivers were from New Zealand and largely ignored
according to a local newspaper article.
Is it balanced or are the Italians incompetent or bad guys or worse?

The Italians are barely portrayed as anything.

They are a "thing to be overcome", and neither played as good or bad or
incompetent.

In Britain "and other territories", says Wikipedia,
it's _Le Mans '66_. Actually, IMDB is specific
<https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1950186/releaseinfo>.
In Italy (yeah, good luck) it's _Le Mans '66 -
La grande sfida_ ("The big challenge", says
Google Translate). It might be edited differently too.
It just might, I'm saying.

Huh. Oddly enough, it's "Le Mans '66" in Sweden, Denmark and Finland,
but not here in Norway where it's "Ford v Ferrari." The mysteries
of marketing.

She's a Hellain/Villeo, um something like that depending on what
side of the bed she gets up on. Mostly a hero in her own series at least.
(A hero with a high accidental bodycount..)

In the "Old Lady Harley" mini-series, set in a probably alternate

Instead of her curing him, he drove her crazy.

That is a lot of scifi and fantasy movies.
Well, you know you can cross out great swaths of the "In Development" list. As for those "Rumored," well, at least we have the books.

Adaptation of Clarke's _3001_? Did I miss _2061_, or are they skipping ahead the 940 years to more easily fudge the 2001-2010 dates?

When I filled out my Clarke collection, I read 2001, 2010, 2061, and
3001 as a series and you what I found?

They aren't really a series.

They are more like four bites at the same apple.

The /movies/ of 2001 & 2010 were, of course, linked.

IMHO, of course.

Don't get too excited. Those entries in the large "in the works"
section just mean that somebody acquired the rights. The vast
majority of these projects will never come to fruition. I used to
follow such lists, but after a few years realized that the overlap
with what you'll actually be able to see is too small to bother.

If it doesn't have a start date, it doesn't exist.

Of those, the ones that interest me are "Three Body Problem" (mostly
hoping to see the whacky alien computer working), "Black Panther 2"
(the first one was really good, enough so that the sequel is likely to
be a letdown), "Wicked", "Dune" (which I expect to be another
letdown), "Eternals" (because I have a horrible crush on Gemma Chan,
or on her character from Humans--I'm not clear which), and "Wonder
Woman 1984" (again because the first was really good).

I would hope that "New Gods," Kirby's earlier "space ghodz" eries
would get to the screen before "Eternals," which was very much
influenced by von Daniken, and while it stands up with other "late
Kirby," such as "The Demon" and "Kamandi: The Last Boy On Earth,"
and is sometimes better, is a notch below his "Fourth World" books.,
IMNSHO.

I'd love to see "The Glory Boat" on the screen.

and "Wonder Woman 1984" (again because the first was really good).
I also thought it fine, but didn't care for the WWI setting.

Now, if it had been a remake of "Gladiator," sticking closely
to Philip Wylie's novel, and not turned into a _comedy_ with Joe E Brown,
of all things....

Death on the Nile?

Seriously, how is that a SF or Fantasy, by any description?

Couldn't they adapt _The Big Four_ or something?

Well, if the licensed the book but only used the title, then it could
be ... anything.

Similar to /The Spy Who Loved Me/ where the only part of the book that
was actually /used/ was the title. (You might think Bond was too, but,
since it was a James Bond Movie he'd have been in it no matter what.)
