Maybe not a "Past Film" but certainly one that should be
best forgotten.

Purported to be a true story yet riddled with inaccuracies,
"The Irishman" is the dull tail of a spent director partnered
with aging actors in a bitter attempt to prove that their
best days are behind them.

It's a $140 million White Elephant.

The cast was awesome, I'm not going to deny that. They
simply lacked a story worth telling and a director who knew
how to edit.

The story is riddled with inaccuracies. The Bay of Pigs, for
example, was a plan concocted under Ike and Vice
President Nixon, Kennedy's opponent, and NOT Kennedy.
And how on earth could an Irish Catholic candidate need
the help of the Italian mafia to win Mayor Daily's Chicago?

Kennedy didn't even need Illinois! He had enough Electoral
Votes to win even if he lost Illinois! And if Nixon hadn't
stolen California the election would have been a landslide!
And the Hoffa nonsense?

"Eew! Eew! I slept on a cot in Hoffa's room, even though
we had never even met before. That's why there's no
record of me being there."

Listen up: If the police are turning their backs on your
crimes, as the story claims, you don't have to import stealth
mobsters to do your dirty work. The police don't care, you
just told us, so you can use anyone. There's never any fear
of getting caught.

The story is shameful, self refuting nonsense. They took
Jimmy Hoffa, JFK and mob hitmen and mixed them all into
a ridiculously inaccurate story that would have seemed slow
even if it had been kept to a reasonable length, only they
stretched it to three and a half hours.

"The Irishman" is a must-miss of a film.

2nd paragraph:

1. It is long but I did not find it dull

2. I'm pretty sure you meant "tale"

3. I'm pretty sure that those involved did not make a "bitter attempt to prove that their best days ARE behind them". (emphasis added)

Twice so far. And apparently you did not understand
Omg! Every pretentious jackwad on the planet tries that
line... "You just didn't understand!"

Of course I understood. It was a crappy movie. The story was
far less than engaging, it wasn't told well and it was too long.

A great example is where De Niro & Pesci first meet, their
characters anyway. De Niro is supposed to be like 30 years
old, Pesci calls him "Kid," yet he'd have difficulty passing for
only 50 and that's with the help of CGI...

Why?

Hire younger actors or, seeing how the film is way too long
anyway, just cut the scene! It made the already ridiculously
implausible storyline all that much more difficult to accept,
even for the sake of the film.

The pacing was too slow for a 2 hour film, it was idiotic for a
3 and a half hour movie.

The inaccuracies were rampant. It's pretending to be a true
story, or at least based on a true story, yet only someone
ignorant of the historical events could mistaken it for anything
other than fiction.

This was a bad film.

I have seen more little indy productions than most people alive,
and I shake my head in disbelief thinking of the HUNDREDS
they could have financed with the cash they wasted on this film!

There are great scripts out there. There are great directors and
actors pleading for a chance, and you could have given that chance
to hundreds of them at a time, instead of producing this garbage.

I didn't say that you didn't understand the movie. I wrote that one of your specific observations, which I quoted, was jumbled. It remains so.

If you would wipe the spittle from your mouth and read what others have written to you in response, you might at least understand what others are saying. Maybe not

That was your autism speaking. For neurotypicals there was nothing
jumbled.

And now you use autism as some form of attempted name-calling. Some people cannot help themselves. Or be helped.

Enjoy your film-watching.

And now you
People like you lack flexibility in your speech. Things have "A" meaning,
words can be used "A" way. You're easily confused -- your mind is
stopped within its tracks by anything that fails to conform to your rule.

The sentence wasn't garbled. Your mind was.

Twice so

So even if you can get past the dull pacing, the implausible fit
of the actors to the roles and of course the excessive length,
there's always the fact that it's pure fiction!

PLUS, it cost an embarrassing amount of money.

It was a
You're trying so hard to look clever that you look like an idiot.

The film is way too long, too slow, poorly cast...

Sure it has great actors, but they're not a good fit for the role.

And what fool could think this film was money well spent?

Seriously, how many mouths could they have fed with the $140
million that was thrown away on this...

This film is an exercise on name dropping... "We've got famous
people!."

It's horribly cast, not just poorly cast. They're too old for the parts.

It's a great cast, it's an awesome cast but they're in the wrong movie!
These same actors in a proper vehicle would have made for an epic
film. Honestly? Pacino is probably the greatest living actor today, and
one of the all time best! Pesci is just someone who has a power to him.
His presence rivets an audience to the screen. And De Niro has a
casualness to him, he makes it look like he's not acting, like he's really
the guy he's portraying. But none of them are right for the roles that
they're playing here.

And the film is a joke!

It's comical. It's laughable. It's not just historically inaccurate but
historically ridiculous, which is turned laughable by misrepresenting
it as true. Bay of Pigs was concocted by Nixon. Kennedy needed
the mafia to win Illinois? Please! He didn't even need to win Illinois!
He had the electoral votes without it! AND with Mayor Daily in
Chicago deciding all the precinct numbers on every election, he
he couldn't lose.

AND, it's too long.

AND, it's slow.

AND, it lacks "Punch."

Take that famous scene in Goodfellas were the Tommy character is
murdered. Most people never saw it coming. Compare this to The
Irishman, where we all know that the Frank character is there to
murder Hoffa...

Put short:

It's an unbelievable story misrepresented as true, with a
horribly mismatched cast with way too little action, and all
dragged out for far too much time.

If this film had been made by "Doug Duggan" instead of Scorsese,
and starred a handful of unknowns instead of Pacino, De Niro &
Pesci it probably would have never made it on Netflix, much less
been considered for any award.

This is NAME DROPPING.

That's all.

FAME is what idiots are reacting to.
