Bruce himself posted in the wrong thread last night, so it's definitely
time to start a new one.

It's supposedly the song that McCartney had the dream about when he wrote "Yesterday."

Listen to the words and the style of the part that I cued the video up to.

McCartney said that "Yesterday" came to him in a dream and he was worried that it may have been a real song that he was dreaming about. But nobody at the time recognized it. In later years people suspected that he may have dreamed about this Nat King Cole song.

Nat King Cole
Did Paul dream of Nat King Cole?
Did he borrow something whole?
Oh, did he steal from Nat King Cole?

IIRC I don't think McCartney actually related his song to "Answer Me
My Love" when he wrote it (after "dreaming it") Other writers and
biographers later made that connection (that I can't see at all).

And for the year or so it lay un-used "in the can" it was known by the
title "Scrambed Eggs"

I can't really see the connection either, but if you alter the lyrics of
"Yesterday" slightly, you can sing them to the tune of "Answer Me My
Love." To wit:

Yesterday
Yesterday
Love was such an easy game to play
Now I need a place to hide away
Oh I believe, tra la

So basically you have to add in one "yesterday" at the beginning of the
verse and take away one "yesterday" at the end. Oh, God, why am I
wasting my time on this horseshit?!!!

Your last question is the only one worth thinking about. :)

What makes this conversation inane is that practically all works can be trace
back to something else that may, or may not, have been in the artist'
conscious, or unconscious, mind. As someone smart once said: hacks plagiarize
artists steal. Shall we discuss whether "Maybelline" is somehow inspired b
the original "Hot Rod Lincoln" (or vice-versa since I'm not sure about whic
came first.)

In John Lennon's diatribe against Paul McCartney, "How Do You Sleep," the original lyric was:

The only thing you done was Yesterday
And you probably pinched that bitch anyway

He changed it when he decided that line was a step too far.

"Hot Rod Race" by Arkie Shibley, which inspired "Hot Rod Lincoln," dates back to 1950.

Yes, of course. I seem to recall that Shibley made a brief career out o
follow-ups. Thanks, Dean.

FRANKLIN, Tenn. (WKRN) — A CEO who publicly ridiculed a male high school senior who wore a dress to prom with his boyfriend has been fired by his Tennessee company.

Cellphone video taken Saturday and posted to several social media platforms shows Dalton Stevens, a senior at Franklin High School, being ridiculed by a man later identified as Sam Johnson, the then-CEO of local telemedicine company VisuWell.

“I very much view clothes as genderless,” said Stevens.

Stevens wanted to make a statement for his senior year, so he decided on bold formal attire.

“He did his big ‘promposal’ and asked me to prom,” said Jacob Geittman, Stevens’ boyfriend. “And he decided he was going to wear a dress, and I’m like, ‘Okay! You’re going to look good in it!'”
