Maybe £400 if it was in mint condition - but that one doesn't look like
it is.

I still have my R107 receiver. It's in more-or-less the same shape as
the day it was delivered in 1958. It's in my QRZ photo, and it's beside
me as I type. I wonder what it's worth? I also still have the Mad
Magazine (and a few more from that year) - and the TCS10 transmitter.

Agreeing with the polymath makes me feel unclean but it's the 1st thing
he's said that makes sense.

£800 for 19set + spares and all the gubbins is a lot more sensible than
some goon asking £395 for shitty old FT757 that's 30-35 years old and
was a pretty average set when new. Hell an FT-450D brand new with 2years
warranty is only £550 +/-, so £155 more. Plus you can get it on credit
and it pisses all over a 35year old FT-757 and has 6m too.

I shall now go and shower in bleach.

From the description it hasn't got a complete original power lead. If I
were an obsessive collector I wouldn't be happy with this, and
especially not with the bodge of soldering directly to the pins on the
PSU. I don't think these leads are easy to find. (I remember boxes
of them being sold cheap and probably the excess ended up in landfill.)

So, whatever is the going rate for a complete one, I reckon this about
halves the value. Mine was stripped for components! In my defence, I
was quite young and needed the space. And I had a working 22 set as a
receiver.

I did the same with a set of (apparently unused) control boxes for a
rack of "Command" receivers. They would probably be much more "sort
after" than the receivers nowadays. I still have one of the
transmitters which was in similarly pristine condition but has
suffered somewhat from being stored in the garage in recent years. Oh
well!

Surely it should be recycled? Consistent with the WEEE procedure.
Think of all the lead! And cadmium! I'm sure it wouldn't cost more
than 300 GBP to get a specialist firm to take it away.

'Hot-spot' would be more accurate. It was nice until they started
building all the houses. The old runway used to be a favourite place
for learner drivers to get some practice at changing up and down the
gearbox before being let loose on the roads.

Still a problem. A new 'particle' turns up on the beach every now and
then. (I suspect SEPA finds one every time they go looking). I think
MoD had finally been shamed into doing some cleaning up but I'm not
sure if anything has happened yet. Haven't noticed anything in the
local rag for a while.

Right. That's definitely before my time...
what? '62 ????
Yes, Jim, that's before I was born mate.
I had you as an old geezer going by your posts.......
I was licensed at 15 years of age, that was a couple of weeks short of
39 years ago. Next birthday is due in a little over 5 months.

I am hardly young, but neither am I quite as old as you might think.

Don't mention the radioactive meters.
When I got my 19 set, I borrowed a radiac from a colleague down the
corridor and measured the radiation from it. Absolute background, 3 cps.

My friend's WWII army compass with luminous spot on the needle was 10000
cps, but he'd long previously guessed that was going to be the case.

Oh
well!
landfill it
Surely it should be recycled? Consistent with the WEEE procedure.
Think of all the lead!
Only in the solder.

And cadmium!
None whatsoever. Anodised aluminium finish - not even the usual
crackle paint.

And it does have a nice roller coaster and wide-spaced variable
capacitors.

Was it aeroplane or manpack stuff? I thought most things had plated

Definitely airborne. Just like this one (mine still has all the covers
and is probably in better condition):

The R1155 I once had was all aluminium too.

Me neither. This one was 'rescued'. My Dad worked for the MoD and had
heard that the workshops were having a clearout and were scrapping a
load of stuff so, being a bit of a magpie (a trait I have inherited),
he went along for a nosey and came back with a pile of gear.

They did what they were designed to do, so in fact they were very good
radios.

Just because they don't fit some other function very well is the fault
of the user, not the radio.

It it's complete unmodified original condition with
all accessories that's probably a fair price IMHO
Agreeing with the polymath makes me feel unclean but it's the 1st thing
he's said that makes sense.
£800 for 19set + spares and all the gubbins is a lot more sensible than
some goon asking £395 for shitty old FT757 that's 30-35 years old and
was a pretty average set when new. Hell an FT-450D brand new with 2years
warranty is only £550 +/-, so £155 more. Plus you can get it on credit
and it pisses all over a 35year old FT-757 and has 6m too.
I shall now go and shower in bleach.
that should take off a layer or two ......
