I would guess that ClassicSelect has seen a bump in its business traffic since the Szell box fun. I go back and forth thinking Greg is just swamped to having less generous thoughts.

Are other people are actually receiving orders? I got an email letting me know that an order from mid-October was fulfilled. But that really only meant that a shipping label had been printed. Eight days later the post office still hasn't received anything to ship.

So "fulfillment" doesn't mean "shipped" in the same way that "paying" doesn't mean "buying", because you pay up front for items which may or may not be in stock when it comes time to shipping at some point in the fairly distant future. [And if you take payment up front and hold that cash for more than a month- or seven weeks in the case of another one of my orders- before actually shipping out anything, how much money is in your holding account, and what is your accounting method for that tax-wise? Business 101 would suggest this is a really bad idea.]

I want to believe, but I've got a few alarm bells that are currently ringing.

I've placed three or four orders, and they've all been received, although a couple took an obscenely long time. I've needed to contact Greg on several occasions, and it sometimes takes a little while to get a response, but in the end, everything has shown up, well-packed and undamaged.

When the price is right, I'll order from him again.

I have had the same experience. It does take a long time to get the orders but the prices are reasonable and I do like supporting a smaller niche business.

I ordered some items under the 50% deal for Szell Box purchasers on
10/11. So far, no sign, but I'm patient, and my sense is that Greg qill
deliver.

I emailed him about the delay in some items I ordered and he apologized for the delay in answering and gave me a ship date. I think he is overwhelmed. I'm in no hurry.

I understand liking to support "niche" businesses, but not if they
provide consistently disappointing service.

I'm not sure I would call this consistently disappointing service. Prior to the Szell incident I have never had poor service from them before. I am writing off the current problem as a one off I can live with. If the problem continues that will be a cause for concern.

They do tend to be on the slow side, but I have placed 8 or 9 orders since the Szell box and have eventually received everything. The prices are good enough that I can afford to wait for the stuff; I don't have a pressing need to get any of these CDs--my main anxiety with the Szell box was making sure I'd get one and not be left to the tender mercies of the speculators, which turned out not to be an issue, not getting it fast. So I'm overall positive and it's nice to support an option other than Bezos and keep competition alive.

I pay with PayPal when I have a high degree of confidence of quick
shipment. Being charged possibly weeks ahead of the product shipping is
something I just think is wrong. It's even marginally dishonest, to the
extent that customers (like me) didn't know they were paying in advance.

I didn't know they did that. In addition to the MDT web site change
(which still doesn't include currency conversion - how hard could that
be), they also will be (or already are) charging upon the receipt of an
order. I let them know what I think of that.

I haven't ordered anything for a while but MDT charged me only when the
order was dispatched. I actually lost money with Presto when a back
order failed after a month or two and they then refunded. The exchange
rate had gone down so I lost. I know I could have gained at other times
but I was buying cds, not speculating in currencies.

I was trying to say that this policy was changing. Someone at MDT told

charge when the order was placed.

It won't bother me as I rarely buy cds these days. I have enough and in
fact I have been culling my collection recently as I downsize.

I've had comparable experiences. Excluding downloads, I've placed four orders with ClassicSelect. I received all four, professionally packaged. But they shipped 34, 30, 44 and 41 days after I placed the orders. That's a long time for any order to ship but it's a really long time if you're charged at the time of the order, not the shipment date. What really concerns me is placing a large order and have them go out of business before it ships. I don't have to worry about that with Amazon, Ebay, or Barnes and Noble.

So, we all know how iffy shipping can be during the holiday season. So, I'm really cautious about ordering from them. Maybe we can keep this thread active and get as much feedback--positive and negative--as possible and see which way the wind is blowing.

Two months ago I ordered a DVD of a German-language production of OTELLO from the mid-60's with Sena Jurinac, Wolfgang Windgassen, and Norman Mittelman in leading roles, and I have yet to receive it. If a person gets tired of waiting can they contact their credit card company and request the charges be revered for non-receipt of item?? I'm not sure if you can do that with a debit card.

Your contract is with Paypal using your credit card to pass on money to
ClassicSelect which they have fulfilled so you shouldn't be able to claim
back money via your credit card company as they have carried out your
wishes. Your claim is directly against ClassicSelect not the "bank".

In the UK, where under section75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974 both the
vendor and credit card company (but not debit card) are equally liable in
full for transactions between 100 and 30,000UKpounds (even if only part of
the payment is made by credit card), we are warned not to use
intermediaries like paypal as it removes our protection but to pay the
company direct by credit card.

out anything, how much money is in your holding account, and what
is your accounting method for that tax-wise? Business 101 would
suggest this is a really bad idea.]
I want to believe, but I've got a few alarm bells that are
currently ringing.
If a person gets tired of waiting can they contact their credit card
company and request the charges be revered for non-receipt of item??
I'm not sure if you can do that with a debit card.
Sorry "reversed"

Its odd - my shipment has had a tracking number for a week but still has not shipped. The ironic thing is its about fifty miles from me in Glen Ridge NJ

I have two orders that are "fulfilled", yet both are listed as "pre-shipping" at USPS, meaning they haven't received anything to mail yet. One of them has been in that state for 12 days.

I appreciate the promise of improved shipping, but it isn't clear to me how any of the changes affect this situation.

I'm getting a fed up with ClassicSelect. I have an order from six weeks ago that has been "fulfilled" for 16 days, but the tracking number states that the PostOffice hasn't received anything to ship. I try to be accommodating, but this is absurd. I sent a very kind note to Greg about this a few days ago and have not received a response.

I have another order from eight weeks ago that is also fulfilled which has been in the "Pre-Shipping" state for five days. Again, nothing mailed.

I have a third order from seven weeks ago that is simply unfulfilled. And it is composed of six individual discs that the site featured on sale. Here I am, buying precisely the goods they seem to want to sell, and they can't get product out the door.

There are items in these orders that I intended to use as Christmas gifts, but at this point I'm wondering if I will ever receive anything. And this durign a stretch when I received probably a dozen emails from them about their sales and new promos. It's a joke!

I know that some people have received goods from them, but since they delivered my Szell box, they haven't been able to deliver anything. Even if they do deliver, I have to say, I may never buy from them again.

I have a similar experience with them. I have contacted Greg about an overdue package. no reply. A week later sent again, received apology and the package would go out the next Tuesday, No package. Contacted again and again an apology that it would go out yesterday. Hasn't moved. Has tracking number so it just has to be dropped off or picked by the post. I am thinking seriously about contacting my credit card company and asking to have the charges reversed due to non-receipt.

I don't know what to say. Lighten up comes to mind. I could respond what
the hell is wrong with you repeatedly getting bad results from
ClassicSelect but continuing to do business them. If you're going to
share every detail about your experience you should expect comment.

Do you guys also enjoy banging your heads against the wall?
What the hell is wrong with you with the dismissive and condescending remarks??
I don't know what to say. Lighten up comes to mind. I could respond what
the hell is wrong with you repeatedly getting bad results from
ClassicSelect but continuing to do business them. If you're going to
share every detail about your experience you should expect comment.
BTW if you read my post before mouthing off, I am not continuing to do business with them I was speaking about one delayed order. But you were in such a hurry to make a smart remark you didn't read carefully.
Feel better? I'm glad you don't have anything really serious to get
your panties in a bunch about. Or maybe you do and it explains your
reaction.
Actually you're the one throwing around false accusations but will you ever admit it NAH
Correct. All you have to do is read the thread to see who started this.

But you keep answering - still trying to figure out how you came up with the conclusion that I keep ordering from Classic Select even though I complain about their service.. That was your accusation and there was nothing in my post to support it. But I guess you needed something to validate your flippant remark.

It's laughable to call that an accusation. You've downgraded my remark

I would love to get updated info on Classic Select and whether they've improved their shaky customer service.

Seems like a valid topic to me, at least as much as bunched underwear.

Since I place some importance on bunched underwear, I'm going to address this like it matters.

I suggest we see who can get ahold of Greg Barbero first. He's gone form being able to answer email inquiries within fifteen minutes (my experience) to not responding at all (my experience, five days and counting).

What I want to know:

1) Slow fulfillment is irritating but not insurmountable problem unless fulfillment never happens. However, waiting longer than eight weeks for orders is extreme. (I don't recall BRO taking this long.) How do his recent improvements address this? Why are orders not shipping?

2) He's been notifying customers that orders are "fulfilled" when in fact it hasn't been mailed and won't be mailed for weeks (or ever? I'm on day 18 of "pre-shipping" in one case). What is he doing to ensure that orders he logs as fulfilled are actually in the mail?

3) I'm also curious if this is a full-time job for him. It really doesn't feel that way. I wouldn't ask unless I didn't like the answers to the first two.

I did see that my last order (which still shows Glen Ridge on his website) when I actually click the tracking number on the usps website shows that that the order is at the Phliadelphia Distribution Center with an expected delivery date of December 4. Meyer

Well, that's good new.

I just got an email that my third order was "fulfilled" which means all three of my early October orders are now in pre-mail limbo. The status on the other two hasen't changed.

OK, so I sent another email to Greg today and he responded quickly. His response is completely winning, and I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt for all the strangeness of their operations. His personal familiarity with my order showed a level of detail awareness that is either great or Jimmy-Carter-and-the-tennis-courts, I'm not sure which.
- He mentioned my prior email
- He mentioned one item in one of my orders where they were sent the wrong LP (I ordered a Monk/Rollings LP from him because it was a good price, and they were smart enough to catch that they got the wrong Monk disc.)
- He mentioned the one thing in my three orders that was out of stock, which was out of stock the last time I ordered (this makes more sense than if it was suddenly available again. No Harnoncourt Bruckner 5 Blu-ray for me.)
- He said I should be receiving my orders in the next week
- He offered an apology

Fantastic! At least as far as it goes. Now let's see how happy I am a week from now.

Well, one day short of the two month mark, my oldest ClassicsSelect order has been delivered. That's what USPS tracking says. But just like every other step in this process, I'm still wondering when/if I will ever see this order because nothing was delivered to my mailbox. Now, when I ship to downtown Chicago, tracking will often say delivered when the item reaches the local post office, but before delivery to my building, but that's generally not how it works elsewhere. Delivery confirmation at my residence generally means delivered. I guess I'm going to have to visit my neighbors this morning.

I occasionally get an apparently bogus "delivered" message. I think the
item shows up the next day. Maybe the mailman scans the package in the
truck, intending to deliver it, but for some reason doesn't until the
next day. Or, as you suggest, it's delivered to a neighbor who brings
it over the next day.

I do occasionally receive packages for other building near me, so I thought this could be the case. But once my wife got up she revealed that the box had arrived and she'd put it somewhere odd that I wouldn't have looked (and underneath a folded blanket). So I deleted my message here, to some degree of success, but clearly a bit late.

Unfortunately, the box was missing an LP, and there was no note about that - or refund - so I'm still not all the way done with this particular order.

Headbanger update.

I've received two of the three CS orders I had outstanding. Each lacked one item in the order, but the invoice was not revised and item charge was not refunded. I've placed six orders total with them, and three of them were like this. ("Order incomplete? Ask us for a refund!")

It has occurred to me that Greg's operation with its amateur-grade operations has been brought to us only because e-commerce platforms are now readily available out of the box. If he had to create his own infrastructure, the whole site would be a dead link.

Here's what he uses.

No way to tell except absence of any evidence that anyone else works there. The emails are answered by Greg, and all service issues are handled by him personally, if he gets to them.

When I told him to cancel my Szell box order, he said he would. When 10 days later I changed my mind and told him to keep the order in the system (because he hadn't cancelled it), he replied. When he failed to ship it with the others and I had to remind him the order was still open, he was responsive. What's funny is I put most of this out of my mind. Coupons and bargains make me forget. But I've been backseat driving his business with me. Only my first two orders with them happened without a hitch.

If a person gets tired of waiting can they contact their credit card company and request the charges be revered for non-receipt of item?? I'm not sure if you can do that with a debit card.
Why on earth would anyone pay with a debit card?

If this is the performance I have on VHS, tucked away somewhere or another, it's a great one. The opening scene is magnificent- the storm music seems better suited by German than Italian.

I like jpc.de because packages are tracked. (I'm in Brazil. The mail here can be dicey.) There can be a problem with availability and I believe one's credit card is charged immediately. It took me a while to figure out jpc's signals.

First a thanks to "fymido" for the heads up on the rerelease of Cafe Zimmermann's recordings on Alpha. (This is one of the reasons I lurk here.) I ordered the set on November 8th, along with the L'Oiseau-Lyre reissue of Semele on Australian Eloquence. The order was shipped on November 20th. I wrote to jpc.de on the 13th to find out what was wrong. Which of the two items was holding up the order? I assumed incorrectly that it would be the Eloquence set.

In the reply I received the next day, the representative at jpc said that the problem was with item number 8763928, which turned out to be Cafe Zimmermann - Alpha Recordings, described as "Item is in stock at our supplier and can be shipped immediately." This does not mean that jpc has the item and it "will" be shipped immediately. If there is a problem at the supplier, like the one described by ClassicSelect for the Szell box, there is not much that the dealer can do.

It turned out that the German text for the CDs of Semele said that the item had been put aside for me. It took nearly two weeks for the Café Zimmermann to arrive from the supplier. Another order (Georges Pretre - The Complete Columbia Album Collection at 16,80 Euro, the Ania Dorfmann and John Browning boxes at 14,28 Euro respectively) was shipped by jpc the day after placing it.

If I am lucky both orders will arrive here before Christmas.

Abraços.
