I have so many stories to tell but I'm unsure if anyone who knew me STILL READS THIS.
I'm here, but I hardly know you. I was trying at first to turn this
space into a personal blog, seeing that it was deserted. But there are
still a few (ghosts?) around, which is OK with me too.
In practice, this space has been functioning for me as a kind of
overflow valve for when I was disappointed (again) with the quality of
my IRC conversations and decided to never go there again, until I notice
there's nothing else and I crawl back.
Not this time though, for sure. There was some temporary change in the
youtube interface that made it unusable without activating javascript.
But not using javascript has become so inconceivable in the meantime
that I was ridiculed everywhere I mentioned this problem.
I'm planning to write more about how javascript has wrestled away
control from the user by appearing as something that is giving more
control to the client, since it runs on their computer, within the
browser, but that in practice is more like some invading mind virus
since there is virtually no control over what software is loaded behind
our backs, sends data to unknown parties and then disappears out of
sight.
But you know how it goes, first they forbid you from speaking
at all, then they ridicule you, then they claim that what you are saying
is only repeating what they themselves were saying all along and one
should just stop complaining and get on with the new and revised program
that is 100% free of what was the issue earlier.
I have my doubts, since they never even understood what the real
problem was in the first place. Like javascript is not as much about
privacy as it is about capturing and controlling the attention of the
user, who has a harder time getting more varied sources of information,
since it all becomes like a set of communicating vats, forever
preventing one from getting out of the bubble, unless one deactivates
javascript that is, preferably by also installing the tor browser
bundle.
Never mind how much harder that makes it to access each individual
site, in the end it works better for someone who wants to have some
overview of all kinds of different sites.
But try to tell that to people who can only sleep when there is nothing
they could have done, so they attack people who are still doing things.
And then google re-enabled non-javascript access to their site ...
