* 709,000 REGULAR (ACTIVE DUTY) PERSONNE L
* 293,000 RESERVE TROOPS,
* EIGHT STANDING ARMY DIVISIONS,
*20 AIR FORCE AND NAVY AIR WINGS WITH 2,000 COMBAT AIRCRAFT
and 232 STRATEGIC BOMBERS,
* 19 STRATEGIC BALLISTIC MISSILE SUBMARINES WITH
3,114 NUCLEAR WARHEADS ON 232 MISSILES.
* 500 ICBMs WITH 1,950 WARHEADS.
* FOUR AIRCRAFT CARRIERS AND 121 SURFACE COMBAT SHIPS AND
SUBMARINES PLUS ALL THE SUPPORT BASES, SHIPYARDS, AND
LOGISTICAL ASSETS NEEDED TO SUSTAIN SUCH A NAVAL FORCE.

IS THIS COUNTRY ?
RUSSIA? NO
CHINA? NO
GREAT BRITAIN? NO
FRANCE? WRONG AGAIN
MUST BE USA? STILL WRONG

GIVE UP?
THESE ARE THE AMERICAN MILITARY FORCES THAT WERE ELIMINATED
DURING THE ADMINISTRATION OF BILL CLINTON AND AL GORE.

John Kerry on Defense -- "I hadn't seen this list printed
before."

It would make one heck of a mailer if it were sent to voters.
He voted to kill the Bradley Fighting Vehicle ,
He voted to kill the M-1 Abrams Tank.
He voted to kill every aircraft carrier laid down from 1988.
He voted to kill the Aegis anti aircraft system .
He voted to kill the F-15 Strike Eagle.
He voted to kill the Block 60 F-16.
He voted to kill the P-3 Orion upgrade.
He voted to kill the B-1 He voted to kill the Patriot Anti
Missile System.
He voted to kill the FA-18.
He voted to kill the B-2.
He voted to kill the F117.

In short, Kerry voted to kill every military appropriation for
the development and deployment of every weapons system since
1988, including battle armor for our troops.

With Kerry as president our Army will be made up of naked men
running around with sticks and clubs. He also voted to kill
all anti terrorism activities of every agency of the U.S.
Government and to cut the funding of the FBI by 60%, to cut the
funding for the CIA by 80%, and cut the funding for the NSA by
80%.

But then he voted to increase OUR funding for U.N operations by
800%!!! Is THIS a President YOU want?

Please pass this on, as many people may not know how bad it is.

The F-35 JSF looks to replace the F-15, F-16, F-14, AV-8B and may
even replace the F-22. Look for the FB-22 instead.

I suspect that he also did not waste his time arguing within the
NGs either. The reason that they are here is that they are no
longer useful and are arguing like old men in a park....

One of the mistakes John made is that a SOME of these items are close to 12
years old. There are newer planes, however, the older planes mentioned were
hot stuff then, and still are, as no other nation has anything that is
better. Also, the concept of retrofitting seems to be lost on some people.

Non concur.

The B-1 Lancer might have been a great aircraft, but Congress never
appropriated enough money to de-bug the thing. The B-1 had potential, but
never achieved it.

The greatest strategic bomber of all time is the venerable BUFF, a.k.a.
B-52. The BUFF is fifty and still going strong.

Only because of it's suitability to carry large volumes of the ALCM.
Without that, the concept of a high-altitude strategic bomber is
obsoliete.

We did not need to protect our borders during Clinton either as
Clinton and Teddy Kennedy (passed most of the open borders laws) let
19 Muslims hijackers in America. Six Al Qeada bombinsg and nothing
was done.

Elian was higher priority.

But then he voted to increase OUR funding for U.N operations by

Please pass this on, as many people may not know how bad it is.

You were being the ass you always are. One senator does not make a
majority. I'm glad Kerry isn't a rubber-stamp for the Bushie junta ans
RummyDummy's latest lets waste more money scheme. While right wing
loons like you always try to spin some of his votes as against the
military, people with BRAINS see him being one of a few trying to cut
the excess over spending the military is infamous for.

Of course retards like Morton see nothing wrong with buying $500
toilet seats or wasting $100 million a pop to test some black hole
defense shield that can't work or investing 5 billion on some
aircraft, then a decade later canceling the project. As a taxpayer I
DO care.

Yeah, one might accuse Dick Cheney of being anti-military when he wanted to
kill the V22 Osprey. Man, I would never put more than two people at a time
in a vehicle like that. It's designed to handle a single engine outage, but
still one rotor goes out and it's down, and down hard. Don't know if Kerry
ever voted against it.

You come across as clueless in respect to international affairs,
mostly parroting talking points rather than learning for
yourself. If you truly understand what is happening within
Islam, no amount of appeasement is going to work. We have Ultra
Orthodox Sunni (Wahhabbi) who are engaged in a civil war within
Islam against the moderates, the Shiite and other factions for
control. They believe that Europe is weak due to secularism and
feminism. That most western males, ie yourself, are emasculated.
To them Spain and Greece are Islamic Territories that were
wrongfully taken by Christians. And that Europe, as well as
America, are by God's will to become Islamic republics.

When do you plan to convert? BTW, homosexuals are stoned to
death under Islamic law.

Only after 1995. Much of the damage was done in 93 and 94.
And many of those democrats pushed for military cuts long before
that under Bush 41. Most wanted the money so that they could

The BRAC was in existence long before Clinton/Gore took office, and is
in existence now. Many more bases are slated for elimination, now if we
can just force the fedgov to release the land back to the states in
which they lie.

Further military cuts are needed, the military needs to be about
one-tenth the size it is now.

|Good riddance. The fat military is a millstone around the neck of hard working
|Americans.

Our country was founded on the fact that every man was to be well
regulated and part of the military/police force. If there is to
be freedom, then this must be a shared responsibility. A
professional police force, as well as a professional military, is
a danger to freedom. It means that the majority become dependent
on a few to defend them. In time it means that majority become
slaves, much like feudalism.

And remember, Switzerland has a 15 million man army. We only
have 2.5 million, including a million in the reserves.

ordered physical. Gets his wings clipped. In a huff, goes AWOL. Daddy
bails him out again.

Whines he wants a political career, like daddy. Becomes a figure head
governor where the positon requires no thinking, has no
responsibility, miminal duites, mostly photo-ops.

Has past drunk driving record slate wiped clean... in two states.
Daddy again fixes it. Did I mention he's still free as bird for going
AWOL from Guard? Daddy of course.

Runs for president. Loses. Has daddy pull in favors, goons beholding
to daddy install junior as president, spitting on Constitution.

Who is this village idiot that isn't even qualifed to shovel horse
shit out of a barn?

Born with silver spoon in his mouth. Mother claims he can't read worth

drinking problem. Says don't ask about about drugs, he ain't talking.
If the chimp had not been born into a powerful, influencial family, he would

He'd never have made it in the real world where the majority of Americans

So your definition of a traitor is someone who actually fights for his

It is my opinion of someone who consorts with the enemy during time ofd war
and is CREDITED by that enemy as making a contribution for that enemy in the
defeat of his country in that war.

"A Ho Chi Minh City museum that honors Vietnam war protesters features a
photograph of Sen. John Kerry being greeted by the general secretary of the
Communist Party, Comrade Do Muoi."

"The Vietnamese communists clearly feel that the American anti-war
protesters were a very important force in undermining support in the United
States for American war efforts, a force that contributed materially to
ultimate communist victory in 1975"

NVA leader General Giap wrote a book after the Nam war. He noted (most
American historians have come to agree with this point) that the TET
offensive was a military disaster for the North. However, the US Press,
along with people including KERRY, snatched defeat from the jaws of victory
of the US. When the NVA saw the US reports and later the whinings speeches
of Kerry and his allies, this continued to strengthen their resolve and
realize that if they kept plodding along the US press and the Kerry groups
would convince the American public that the US was in a lost cause.

The question is how could you even consider a self-admitted war criminal

The ONLY way you can do that is by having a double-standard.

damned uncomfortable lines of questioning with a mediator to keep them from
each others' throats. There hasn't been a real debate for many many years.
Ergo, there are no 'winners' or 'losers', just whomever looks best in front

Dems attack Bush for coming from a powerful family,
No, they don't. They don't like Bush because his life has been an
epic of failure and bailout. A hyocrite, he maquerades as a military
man when his own military career was engineered by his father to keep
him out of Vietnam, and even that was a miserable failure. Although he
lacked ambition or any demostrated ability, his daddy and his daddy's
friends bought and paid for everything he's ever done. Yet he's a
conservative who firmly believes that people should take
responsibility for their own lives -- a man who never took
responsibility for his.

but don't mind that Dems like the Kennedys and Al
Gore also came from powerful families.
The Kennedys, despite their wealth, have a long tradition of personal
accomplishment and national service. Old Joe graduated at the top of
his Harvard class, and before he was 30 had become a bank president
and one of the most powerful men in Boston. Before he was 50, he was
one of the most powerful men in America. His oldest son, Joe, died
flying an extremely dangerous combat mission. Jack served in the
South Pacific where his PT Boat was rammed by a Japanese destroyer.
Bobby was an accomplished lawyer who, as Attorney General, had the
guts to take on Jimmy Hoffa and win. Even Ted graduated from law
school (after serving two full years in the army) and became one of
the most effective senators ever to serve. There isn't a person in the
Bush family, with the possible exception of GHW Bush who could measure
up to them, but then he was a singularly ineffective president and his
ties to the Saudis diminish his stature.

Gore, at least, served honorably in Vietnam and in the Congress and
Senate.

They attack
Bush for not going to Vietnam, but have no problem

Clinton's draft number was high. He didn't have a rich daddy who could
do him favors. Whatever you say about Clinton, you can't deny he's a
self-made man, a poor boy who, because of his guts and brains, was
elected twice to the presidency, the second time by a wide margin.
Although he was hounded incenssantly by Republicans during his
administration, he was still one of the most popular presidents ever
elected. His legacy was peace and prosperty, a national surplus, a
strong and vibrant military, full employment, and the best stock
market in the history of the United States. He also managed to stop
the slaughter in the Balkans with almost no loss of American lives.

himself a conservative, but runs up the worst deficits in US history,
expands government, bends the first amendment, and interfers with the
rights of states and cities to control their own schools.

I am deeply offended by your characterization.

George WMD Bush is *highly* qualified to shovel shit.

And, once he's out of office, I want to read Shrub's (ghost-written,
obviously) autobiography.

Everyone who knows them says the current pResident is his mother's son. Ol'
Bar is a sniveling, snotty, bitchy country club dame who only looks her age
because "the chlorine in the pool turned my hair green." If you've ever
been to a Republican Party gathering, you can see these Grand Ol' Pussies
who married for money, did their duty by spawning out progeny, and spent the
rest of their lives sipping bourbon and criticizing the "little people."

George WMD Bush has serious father issues. "He's not the sort of father one
looks to for strength," said Shrub when asked if he sought his father's
advice about invading Iraq. Shrub thinks the old man is a wimp and is
driven to be a much more macho president than his father.

Thing is, George WMD Bush has no people skills unless he's paying for the
drinks and drugs. He aches to be a good ol' boy, but no one of any
consequence is gonna hang with him unless he's picking up the tab. Where
are his National Guard buddies? Who is his friend? Isn't there someone,
somewhere, anywhere in his life who he can relate to, one-to-one? Hell,
even Nixon had Bebe Robozo.

Shrub is desperately craving acceptance from his father who knows better.
Shrub doesn't have a friend from his first 40 years because, as with most
drunks, he fucked 'em over. Even his Midland, Texas Monday Night Bible Club
gives us no one who will stand up and say, "This is my best friend."

The election, ultimately, will be settled on the issue of character. Poor
ol' Shrub's got nothing to offer.

We only

Unless you get rid of aircraft, satellites and computers, you
will have to deal with the outside world. What would be in our
interest would be to conquer most of the Americas and merge them
into our nation.

As for the militia, it seems it was used for police, fire as well
military duties. We need to have something like the Swiss Guard
where all are in the military (reserves, not active). However it
would take a major restructuring of US society as most kids today
are unfit for military duty. And totally untrustworthy to have
the authority of the police.

DOD puts out a yearly make up of the military. It includes data
on percentages who fail the ASVAB, for example. And data on the
makeup of the military (65% white, 20% black, 10% Hispanic, and
6% other, with about 60-40 split male to female). It is on

We are in a culture war, a civil war, mostly of words. It is for
who will have the right to set the morality, the social norms, of
our culture. Those "rules", often unwritten, that are taught at
your mothers knee (or across it). Right now feminism is the
"morality" by which most boys are raised. Thus they either rebel
against it (out of control behavior) or are mommies boys. It is
much like the last Victorian Age.

DOD puts out a yearly make up of the military. It includes data
on percentages who fail the ASVAB, for example. And data on the
makeup of the military (65% white, 20% black, 10% Hispanic, and
6% other, with about 60-40 split male to female). It is on
Defense Link.
If we had had those 709,000 Active Duty Personnel, we would have had to pull
hundreds of thousands of skilled workers out of our work force, losing their
purchasing power and the tax revenues they generate. I look at the list and
I can see where all the jobs went. I live in a military area. I see military
personnel everywhere. They're in every restaurant in my area at one time or
another, eating in groups or allone or with their families. I see them in
the grocery store. I see them in Wal-Mart and other big stores and at the
flea markets, buying things. They buy homes, cars, boats in my area. They
are first in line to give blood or to volunteer to help find missing persons
or escaped convicts. They are volunteer firemen, auxillary police, hospital
volunteers and fill many other gaps. They even help teach in our schools.

John kerry stood by and watched and helped as Clinton/Gore destroyed our
military and cost Americans millions of jobs.

Switzerland would have fallen to the Nazis in days, but the Nazi spies
went along with Swiss propaganda that they'd mined the tunnels (the
Swiss couldn't/didn't afford the dynamite and only did some digging)
because the spies would rather live safely in Switzerland than go to
die on the Russian front. Shows the power of brains over brawn.

Joe Stalin had a great propaganda idea. He would use the 1930s black and

This is especially true if you hit the -1 century button in the

Another fact. Today in the U.S., homeownership has been on an

Someone should compare this to EU rates and see where they sit.

Poverty is a social problem, not a technological one. It doesn't cure
itself simply on the basis of the mass proliferation of cellular phones or

still be poor.

There are varying measures of poorness.

Today, a hefty slice of America is time-poor. They do not
command their own time. Circumstances of their life command
their time; for example, impelling them to labor.

If there comes a day where no one is time-poor, poverty
will have been defeated, and there will be non discontents
complaining about "wage slavery".

Depends how you define "poverty". Here in the US, it is an
income for a family of less than $25,000 (rich is a family
income of over $70,000). When you look at Iraq, for example,
typical incomes are about $100 per month. In north Africa, it is
about $180 a year.

During Desert Storm, we hired third country nationals (TCN) at
the following rates. Filipinos were paid $400 per month, those
from Sri Lanka were paid $250 per month. those from India
received $50 per month.

Poverty is a moving target. And the best way to lower poverty in
the US is to reduced family size for the poor. Abortion is too
little, too late. Tubal Ligation (sterilization) for poor women
with two or more children, is far more affordable.

It's amazing how the poor in America can afford color tv's, drugs and cars.

I have heard many times that Reagan won the Cold War and destroyed the
Evil Empire. Once a enemy is gone, swords are usually turned into plow
shares. Such a large standing military saps the economic vitality of a
nation. Such downsizing is necessary when a war ends.
Mikhail Gorbachev that both the US and the USSR lost the Cold War. We
both spent $10 trillion on the war and neither side has anything to
show for it.
While I think I understand (and agree with) your economic premise, I don't
think that one can discount the fact that we are still here!, with our
standard of living largely unchanged if not improved.
According to the CIA World Factbook, one in eight Americans lives in
poverty. Oh yeah, what a marvelous standard of living.
And even more interesting, the US is the only country where the poor people
suffer from obesity.

I was in Argentina in '78. Our host was very proud of his AM/FM

couple years before, so I rounded up for inflation and all, said a hundred
dollars. The equivalent of $250 dollars for a basic Radio/Cassette player.
In a country where a steak dinner w/ all the trimmings was $2 - $2.50 tops.
And you should have seen the eyes bug out of the Bulgarians teasing us

Friend of mine was stationed in Germany in the late sixties. Had to go
to Italy, meet the family in the "old country". One family was real happy
and proud - they had just recently gotten water piped into the house. No
more going to the fountain. Of course, it was just one spigot, and it was
cold water (well, cold in the winter, warm in the summer), but it was
running water, in the house. "Can you believe it?" right up town with the
rich folk.

Yeah, what the US considers "basic necessities" the rest of the world

Chris, you are one of the best shooting writers I find most plausible. I've
never seen real combat, but could proabably handle it given my attitude problem and shooting skills -- shoot at me and prepare to die if there is a miss.
You have taught me a bunch of neat things over the years. Perhaps it is a good thing that I don't expect you to shoot at me, because I would not expect you to miss. :-)

I disagree. Money spent on the military does not evaporate into the air,
rather it gets spread out to all sectors of the society. Sit down and look
at what the homeporting of one aircraft carrier can do for a local economy.
Take a look at how much food it takes to restock an aircraft carrier, much
of it bought from local businesses. Look at how many houses, cars, other big
ticket items are purchased by the several thousand military personnel who
mann the ship. Look at the retail stores, restaurants and other businesses
who benefit from purchases by the military personnel and their families.
Many other jobs are directly or indirectly tied to that one ship.
Eventually, every dollar spent on the military comes back as new tax revenue
from a myriad of sources ands THAT strengthens, rather than drains, the
economy.

The US has a lot to show for it.
All the new technology that was developped in the US can be directly
traced back to technology that was incubated or developped because of the
cold war.
Just two quick examples that are close to users of these groups:
1) The internet, for example is DIRECTLY attributable to the cold war
2) The PC
Just think of the wealth that were directly AND indirectly created with just

Maybe you should change your nym to "CLUELESS with an attitude".

Miniaturisation of electronics was required because the US did NOT have the
rocket payload capacity that the Soviet did.
That is why NASA funded a lot of research into smaller, lighter, more
compact electronics.
And that, bub, led to modern IC circuitry
Telemetric monitoring led DIRECTLY to modern medical technology.
The technical push to create ARPANET led to the comunication infrrstructure
that triggered the evolution of the Internet.
Look up "gopher" as just one example.
There is all kinds of OTHER technological developments that can be traced
back DIRECTLY to the space race
Modern metalurgy and graphite technology are two other areas that were
developped because of the space race and trying to get up ahead of the
Soviets.

And so, two address your two lame examples.
The Macintosh, nor the PC would NOT have been possible without the push
to develop smaller faster electronic circuits.
And by the way, those were NOT the first desktops availabel to the
marketplace.
HP was quite a few years ahead on that issue as well.
http://www.hp.com/hpinfo/abouthp/histnfacts/timeline/hist_80s.html

And before the 85, there were already a couple of scientific desktop
computers available from HP.
And they were way ahead of both the MC and the PC in the technology that
they came with.

Miniaturisation of electronics was required because the US did NOT have the
rocket payload capacity that the Soviet did.
Which the Soviets had developed because they couldn't get a "reentry
vehicle" as small as the Americans could. We built small warheads to go on
ICBMS, so we didn't need the "throw weight" which could put a smaller
package in to low orbit.
