Bratwurst & cabbage. They go well together.

It's looking like rain again today so I'll be using the grill pan to
cook them in the oven. I always slash the casings on the bratwurst to
allow the fat to drain and prevent excessive curling. I'll core and cut
the small cabbage into wedges, brush it with oil, season with S&P and
roast the wedges alongside the brats.

I went out to mow a while ago, figuring for the last time this year...
everything is wet, only 60º and no sun. I started but the ground is
too soft, so I stopped before making big ruts. Chances are I won't be
able to mow until next year. I don't like to mow around the young
trees when the ground is wet, disturbs the roots.
I was reading an artical about women in Texas regarding the new
abortion laws, many commented that they don't like to swallow. Dummys
don't realize that they can spit. And most men prefer hefty cleavage.
If not yours then that's what affectionate MILS are for.

Sperm is like sweet honey to us queers!

Maybe we could teach those shy Tejas gals some useful fellatio 'techniques' ;-)

I have no idea what your trying to mow your back 40 has to do with what
I plan to cook for dinner tonight.

Megatron is cooking steaks for us. She is making a salad, so there will
be blue cheese dressing on it since we are having steak. A couple nice
rolls instead of potatoes, veggie kebabs and steamed green beans.

We are doing Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow. Our son and his fiance and
my brother and his wife are coming. I picked up the fresh turkey this
morning. I made the dressing this afternoon. Don't panic. It is in a bag
in the fridge, not in the salmonella factory turkey cavity. We picked
up a pumpkin pie and an apple pie at my wife's church yesterday.
Megatron roasted the squash and it is a bowl to go into the oven with
the turkey.

We are pretty well set for Thanksgiving. FWIW, the weather is darned
near perfect this weekend. You guys to the south should shift your
turkey day feast about a month.

Oh... and the leaves are just starting to change.

LOL I never cook turkey for Thanksgiving but it's still quite warm where
I live; November works out perfectly this far South for the USA date.
I've not thought that far ahead in terms of what to cook but the mention
of dressing... I may make some thick cut pork chops stuffed with
crumbled cornbread dressing for Thanksgiving in November. :)

If I had my druthers we would not be having turkey. My wife, my son and
my brother will whine for a week if we don' have turkey for
Thanksgiving. I am sure my SiL would be amenable to something else. I
don't know about the future DiL. I don't want to put her on the spot,
but I don't have any reason to think she is dead set on turkey.

I don't cook it either, I leave that to someone else. But when I have a hankering
for "fowl and dressing" I'll make cornbread dressing. Then I'll take a large
boneless chicken breast and cube it and mix it into the dressing. Then all
goes into a Pyrex baking dish to cook together. No carcass to worry with
disposing either. Boneless chicken thighs would work great if a person were
not overly fond of chicken breasts.

The term "dressing" implies that it is out of the bird, in a casserole
dish, at least in the United States.. "stuffing" is in the bird.

If you're sure. I won't argue with you, but I'm quite under the
impression that "dressing" is specifically bread stuffing baked into a
casserole bowl.

Yes. Our autumn harvest is earlier due to a shorter growing season. Also,
this way we got a holiday ~6 weeks after Labour Day. But now, the feds
have declared a new one 30 Sep for political reasons, which should have
been fixed to a Monday or Friday because it does not commemorate a
specific event, so now holidays are more fucked up than necessary.

Also, yes in a separate thread I trimmed too much (because you & priors
had not trimmed enough) and it gave the impression that you had
denigrated Poles, but I seem to recall it was someone else who had done
so.

Correct, it's more a regional thing it seems? Some parts only call it
'stuffing' no matter how cooked. My impression is that 'dressing' is
more 'formal' and apt to be fancier than just a box of 'Stove Top'.

Many use stuffing and dressing interhangebly, and many make theirs in
a casserole. I think most say stuffing even when from a casserole. I
don't make the usual style with crumbs, we much prefer kasha
varnishkas; buckwheat groats with bowtie pasta... always in a
casserole.

varnishkas; buckwheat groats with bowtie pasta... always in a
casserole.

The term "dressing" implies that it is out of the bird, in a casserole
dish, at least in the United States.. "stuffing" is in the bird.
Many use stuffing and dressing interhangebly, and many make theirs in
a casserole. I think most say stuffing even when from a casserole. I
don't make the usual style with crumbs, we much prefer kasha
varnishkas; buckwheat groats with bowtie pasta... always in a
casserole.
I've noticed that as well; used interchangeably. I try to be more
specific if I can. My family regularly calls it all "stuffing" as well.
I'm surprised to see the term "dressing" used more here, I guess it's
become a regional thing. I'd bet that most younger people would think
of "salad" if they heard "dressing".

We are doing Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow. Our son and his fiance and
my brother and his wife are coming. I picked up the fresh turkey this
morning. I made the dressing this afternoon. Don't panic. It is in a bag
in the fridge, not in the salmonella factory turkey cavity.
Nothing dangerous about cooking dressing inside a turkey. Just pack it
right before going in the oven and take it out right after cooking.

Stuffing/dressing is my favorite Thanksgiving dish. I make plenty to
pack the turkey and enough leftover to fill a casserole dish.

Happy (Canadian) Thanksgiving today, Dave.

It is an essential part of a Thanksgiving dinner, but none of use are
likely to want a lot. I made enough to stuff the bird. That will be
enough for the 6 of us.

The real problems is to get the stuffing up to proper temperature, the
bird itself is over heated and dried out.

Dead salmonella is just more protein. It does not produce toxins that
remain toxic after cooking.

Not a problem here tonight. The stuffing turned out beautifully as did
the whole turkey. Actually, everything turned out well. I made gravy,
garlic mashed potatoes and steamed green beans. SiL brought a
cauliflower and broccoli salad. I had a small piece of each of the
church lady pies. The apple pie was excellent. The pumpkin pie was
pretty good but way too sweet for me.

I've never had that problem. Roast the bird breast-side down, then
flip it over for the final hour to brown and crisp the skin.

We'll probably split a cornish hen and a ham slice with stuffing done
at the side. Lots of vegetables of course!

I've experienced snow in August! Admittedly, that was unusual but we can
expect it any time from mid September and certainly in October.

Although it's not usual, snow in southeast Michigan in mid October is
not unknown. It typically doesn't amount to much, as Graham noted
downthread, since the ground is not yet frozen.

I recall trick-or-treating in the snow at least once.

Not my house so I don't have to take care of it. My friend has this at
the shore and a 3500 ft. house in PA and she takes care of both. More
energy than I ever had.
I visit a few times a year and reap the benefits. Long time friend. I
help with the cooking though. Oh, and fixed the garage door opener

Ocean City New Jersey. Not a mansion, 2100 sq ft. Anything right on
the ocean has a ridiculous price. This same property inland would be
less than half that to build. Torn down it would still be worth a
million.

Very nice though. My bedroom has an ensuite bath and a door to a small
deck on the side. Right now I'm sitting at the kitchen table looking
out at the ocean through 18 feet of glass doors.

I'm on the third level but easy to get up since there is an elevator.

I've always wondered about that "towel on floor" thing too. I never drop

However, my bathmat is same as a towel and I will leave that on the

We hang ours up to dry almost immediately. We don't complain if
the other one forgets; we just hang it up for them.
It would definitely be easier to take the two seconds to pick it up and
hang it up that to try to nag me about it. I think it belongs on the
floor. And FWIW, I tend to stand in the shower and drip dry a bit and
then dry my feet and legs before stepping out onto the mat, so I don't
get it very wet.

Same here... some people are always looking for something picayune to
bitch about. Bitching piles up, that's why so many couples go to bed
angry. It's extremely rare that we don't put things back where they
belong. It takes exactly the same effort to put stuff where it lives
than to put it in a new home. Why do stuff on purpose just to piss
off your partner? People like that really don't belong together.
People who leave their dirty clothes in piles on the floor are not
forgetting by accident, that's an on purpose. We have all hardwood
floors, even in the bathrooms, we know better than to leave wet
clothing/towels on the floor. I installed extra towel rods in both
bathrooms and in the kitchen for a reason. We have a wooden folding
rack that we can stand in the tub when needed. My wife uses that more
than I do because she hand washes her unmentionables and they never go
in the clothes dryer... never annoys me to see her bras and panties
drip drying in the tub.... actually I consider it eye candy. We
occasionally discuss how we are aging and wish we could fuck like
teenage rabbits forever. We both enjoy performing oral sex on each
other... about every couple of weeks she tests my plumbing that I can
still squirt, she asks me to tell her when so she can prepare to
swallow. She can't understand women who refuse like it's toxic, Kathy
considers it my best intimate gift, same as I consider her golden

Ed will be fine staying there as long as he never leaves a wet towel on
the floor.
You've got an elephant memory!
I've always wondered about that "towel on floor" thing too. I never drop
a wet towel on the floor. Immediately gets hung up.
However, my bathmat is same as a towel and I will leave that on the
floor for awhile after a shower. Does that count too?
It matters to my wife. I always leave it on the floor and she always
gets upset. I keep hoping that she will realize that I think the bath
mat should be on the floor and stop complaining about it.
We hang ours up to dry almost immediately. We don't complain if
the other one forgets; we just hang it up for them.

We both enjoy performing oral sex on each
other... about every couple of weeks she tests my plumbing that I can
still squirt, she asks me to tell her when so she can prepare to
swallow. She can't understand women who refuse like it's toxic, Kathy
considers it my best intimate gift, same as I consider her golden
honey.

Ocean City New Jersey. Not a mansion, 2100 sq ft. Anything right on
the ocean has a ridiculous price. This same property inland would be
less than half that to build. Torn down it would still be worth a million.
Very nice though. My bedroom has an ensuite bath and a door to a small
deck on the side. Right now I'm sitting at the kitchen table looking
out at the ocean through 18 feet of glass doors.
I'm on the third level but easy to get up since there is an elevator.
At this specific time, you probably have a nicer than average ocean view
with high winds and surf from that offshore storm. Good time to dress
warm and go for a long walk along the shore. I hope you brought your
surfboard with you.

Roasting pankoed chicken breasts (2-3 meals for me) with shallots and
baby potatoes.
Just finished snowing here:-(
EEK! It's 81° here.
The ground was still warm enough that melted on contact. However, it's a
bit depressing as a harbinger of things to come:-(
Jeez, Graham, you should go south to Florida for the winter...!!!
I'm pretty sure Ed has a spare bedroom in his goat barn. :)
Plenty of room in the stable.
This week I'm roughing it. I'm staying it a $2.5 million ocean front
home, BUT my bathroom does not have a towel warmer.
Is the mansion in Florida?
Ocean City New Jersey.
Seen from the air, the city looks like all of its buildings gradually get bigger the closer you get to the city center - or toward the coast.

Lmao. The US is just literally speed - running down the checklist for serious political upheaval and
collapse right now. Amazing.

*SOUTHWEST TO COMPLY WITH FEDERAL VACCINE ORDER OVER TEXAS BAN

Let me explain why this sort of thing is potentially quite significant. The US states are more or less
countries in miniature, who are economically integrated into the broader republic but whose political
capacity hasn't meaningfully atrophied or been taken away.

The federal government is experiencing a very serious crisis of legitimacy right now. The same
cannot be said of the states. Partly, because this represents the founding mythos of the US, partly
because they're the one possible alternative to the federal government.

From what I gather, Governor Greg Abbot isn't exactly the most popular political actor on the red team
today. But insofar as that is true, that lack doesn't stem from challenging the federal government, quite
the opposite. Challenges like this are seen as increasingly legitimate.

Revolutions don't ever happen because of "the issues", but because the underlying state is too weak
to handle these issues without seizing up. It is *state weakness*, that is the deciding factor, not the
fervor or coffeehouse revolutionaries.

I've got just a dab of chili left and I need to get it eaten and free up a
bit of refrigerator space.
2 or 3 Veggie dogs would have been just the thing for chili dogs. Especially with grated cheese.

Well that certainly doesn't sound appetizing in the least. I don't eat fake
meat whether it's hamburger, hot dogs, sausage, or whatever else they've
adulterated. Definitely no cheese, fake or real.

Fake meat can be very nice. And talking about adulterated: have you
ever seen a chicken factory from the inside? Talk about adulterated!

Their label claims "milk, cheddar cheese, salt, whey, milk protein, food
starch, whey protein concentrate," and some stuff that will surely stand
Bruce's hair on end.

I'm good with Kraft, it hasn't killed me after all these years.

I hear ya! I am definitely not going to ruin a meal by using "2 or 3
Veggie dogs" to use up some chili... was yours vegetarian BTW?

I don't understand the faux meat thing. If you're a vegetarian, don't
eat meat. Pretending these "veggie dogs" are meat is just wrong:

Ingredients: Water, wheat gluten, corn syrup solids, contains two
percent or less of methylcellulose, dextrose, salt, egg whites, natural
flavors, brown sugar (sugar, molasses), hydrolyzed vegetable protein
(corn protein, soy protein), hydrolyzed corn protein, soy protein
isolate, carrageenan, mustard flour, onion powder, maltodextrin, spices,
xanthan gum, hydrolyzed soy protein, autolyzed yeast, paprika, garlic
powder, soybeans, disodium guanylate, disodium inosinate, hydrolyzed
torula and brewers yeast, wheat, gum arabic, hydrolyzed vegetable
protein (corn gluten, soy protein, wheat gluten), soybean oil, thiamin
hydrochloride, paprika extract for color, autolyzed yeast extract,
lactic acid, nonfat milk, red 40, sunflower oil, citric acid, blue 1.
