Post by Sally ThompsonPost by Kate BPost by John AshbyPost by Sally ThompsonThe BBC has said that TA will not be broadcast on Fridays for the
foreseeable to eke out the remaining episodes. I don't know why
Friday and
not Sunday which would have made more sense to me.
This has been a PSA.
Perhaps because the Friday episode doesn't get a stand-alone repeat, so
they only lose 15 minutes of airtime.
Or perhaps because nobody would start a nuclear war just at the start of
Shabat.
So we're going to get lots of Monday cliffhangers instead? Will the
Omnibus be shorter? Will the Borsetshire time-space continuum be even
more stretched out than it was over the Gay Grables Catastrophe? Will
Easter come at Christmas?
The cliffhanger will presumably change one day each week which could be
confusing, but, yes the Omnibus will be shorter. I don't think Easter will
come at Christmas but by my reckoning Christmas may well come at Easter.
HTH.
I know you are joking, but ....
We don't know how many weeks worth of programmes we have waiting for
broadcast. We do know that they make 6 weeks at a time, but how far in
advance of when they are broadcast is this done? A batch of programmes
could be made in the week before the first of them is broadcast, or they
could make them months in advance, so that they have several batches of
programmes waiting to go.
My guess is that there might be about 10 weeks worth of programmes
waiting, that is 60 programmes. If these are aired at a rate of 5 per
week, that would last 12 weeks, so to about June. They could reduce to
three or four episodes per week, but I can't really see them lasting
into Autumn, let alone up until Christmas, not unless they have a much
larger stock than I imagine. If we are still in this situation at the
end of the year, we will surely be down to no new episodes per week by then.
Assuming that this isn't the end of The Archers, they will have to start
making them again at some point, and at that point they can just start
with an episode suitable to the date on which they expect to broadcast
it, just glossing over any peculiarities in when, say, a crop was planted.
Depending on the story for the next two or three weeks, it might still
be possible to air the Easter episodes on roughly the right date, moving
some fairly stand alone episodes/scenes from before Easter to after Easter.
Having written all of that, I have just sought out further details of
this announcement and see that the new schedule is expected to last
until the end of April. That is 6 weeks, which will require 30
programmes. That number of programmes would normally have been aired
over 5 weeks.
