Debussy for 3 Guitars

Just wondering if anyone know of good arrangements of Debussy for
guitar trio. I saw in an old catalog (GSP, I think) there was Clair
de Lune, but I don't find in any of the current online sources. Our
trio plays classical music, but also Jazz. We would like to
incorporate "Classical" pieces that utilize more colorful (ie,
"jazzy") harmonies, such as Debussy. If anyone has suggestions, or
recommendations, please let me know.

be something else of interest. I searched under 'trios' and found 152
listings, perhaps something worthwhile.

He has a quite good search engine; style, composer, number of
instruments, etc. He s located in Houston, Texas. I had some small
difficult logging on to purchase from him. We e-mailed each other and
got it sorted out quickly.

I ordered four items, two shipped in about four days (Priority Mail) the
others followed in another four to five days. David kept me informed
throughout so I am not the least bit disappointed with his service.

I would agree--the Guitar Gallery is an excellent resource. I did
notice that there were several arrangements of Debussy for four guitars
and contrabass published by Productions D'Oz. I would bet that some of
these could be reworked for trio by combining parts. Similarly, many of
the duo arrangements could probably be further decomposed into trios by
splitting the parts. For example, I have the excellent Zarate
transcription of Claire de Lune, which is quite challenging for two
guitars. Adding a third would make it easier on everyone, and I bet it
would sound great.

In all cases, I would still recommend consulting the original piano
scores to see what changes were made.

Hi Bud,

Just a quick note. Your trio does not always have to play trios. Using
short pieces, you can play duets. With three players you have three
combinations of duos. Might give your audience a bit of variety and
prepare the group for the day when one takes ill or otherwise needs time

kind of hunagarian Rhapsody very popular by audience and players ,free

The Pro Arte Guitar Trio has a recording of Debussy pieces, presumably
arranged by the trio themselves. It's called "Arabesque" on the ASV
label. I have it at home, and though I haven't listened to it in a
while, I recall that it was certainly pleasant enough music. Many of
the pieces have at least one guitar that is tuned up ( either terz or
quart, I think).

You should be able to contact them through their management to inquire
about their arrangements.

If you have the time, though, I would recommend doing your own
arrangements. I have found that when I do this, I can account for my
familiarity with the other players to write parts that accommodate each
of us.

while, I recall that it was certainly pleasant enough music. Many of
the pieces have at least one guitar that is tuned up ( either terz or
quart, I think).

I just listened to this and think it could work pretty well for three
normally pitched guitars, and not too hard to put together. Haven't heard
back from the original poster, though.

They did quite a lot Debussy. Sending them your

Trio playing Debussy and Fauré. Get their arrangements!!!

trio for sure. I like the idea of duo's. We do this with one tune -
a jazz standard that the other guys play. We already incorporate
solo's, so I like the idea of more duo's. Of course, time is always
an issue, so arranging this myself would be difficult.

beautiful. That would be at the top of the list. Since we would like
to appeal to a broad audience, things that are more recognizable are
what we are interested in. Maybe others have suggestions towards that

The Katona Twins play Giuliani's arrangement of the Barber of Seville
overture (actually the earlier verison under a different name--I don't
recall the story behind this). Talk about a real crowd-pleaser!
