Discussion:
Tory conference and Tory lies

As the Conservative Party begins its conference against a backdrop of
self-created pure chaos, Boris has just made a pledge to spend 13 Billion
quid on building 40 new hospitals, doubtless the first of many uncosted
pledges to come over the next few days. Now, I’ve got a genuine question
for any Tory voters reading; do you actually believe these promises or do
you see them for the naked distractions and lies they clearly are? If the
latter, why do you persist in supporting these charlatans?

Do you have a question for non-Tory voters? Or do you assume they all think
as you do?

Actually I don't believe anything until it happens myself. There is no money
after all.
So unless we engage slave labour then the capitalist system as it currently
exists is just like a plant starved of water.

I can only assume that as it works for Trump it will work for Boris,
and as with anything if you saturate the media with lies and
misinformation people become blinded. It only then needs someone to
point out the blatantly obvious such as Corbyn having to raise taxes
to start the howls of ridicule and hate.

Corbyn or Johnson, it makes no difference, taxes will have to be
raised to pay for Tory incompetence. Raised by a fair bit too, and
with business crippled by Brexit, the future is somewhat dire under
all projections.

Never mind, Javid and Boris are in a good frame of mind, it's givaway

What has been quite reassuring is how the Boris groping a journalist and
Arcruri allegations have led the news cycle for the last few days. It goes
to show that BoJo and Dom don’t have anywhere near the level of control
that they wish they had, which is going to cause them big problems given
the fanny-crazed Johnson’s sordid personal life (nobody actually knows how
many children he’s spawned). If there’s one thing that the British tabloids
can’t resist it’s a good old-fashioned political sex scandal, and it looks
like they’re starting to dig their teeth into the shambling sack of cum
that currently occupies Number 10.

If some does it at, say, a work meeting or meal, even to a colleague
they may know, or someone perhaps on bus, in a restaurant etc who they
either don't know aren't in some (even initial stages of) a relationship
with, then it is totally different to a couple who are being, shall we
say, 'playful' on a date etc. If people refuse to accept that, that any
form of 'snogging' (or whatever the current term is) by courting couples
is must be no more that a string of sexual assaults in Steve's eyes.
Certainly women, and men, should be able to about their job and normal
life without having to worrying about 'wandering hands' or even sexual
innuendo. While such things may have been considerable 'acceptable'
(note my quotes) in the past, that doesn't mean they are now or should
have been then.
Having said that, while I am all for nailing sexual offenders to
crosses, I don't for one moment believe that all the claims made about
famous people are true. Certainly those that are timed so conveniently
are extremely dubious.
Good to know you’re on the side of victims of sexual assault, Brian ...
Paul may well find your above post useful in any potential future
litigation.

If the latter, why do you persist in supporting these charlatans?
Do you have a question for non-Tory voters? Or do you assume they

I<m interested in the reaction of Tory voters to the >pledges" being
made by the Tory leader. HTH.
It is beyond belief. I can only assume that as it works for Trump it
will work for Boris, and as with anything if you saturate the media
with lies and misinformation people become blinded. It only then needs
someone to point out the blatantly obvious such as Corbyn having to
raise taxes to start the howls of ridicule and hate.

I am shocked beyond measure. If he's squeezed a woman's thigh, he
should clearly be stripped naked, tarred and feathered and paraded
through the streets of London before being hung, drawn and quartered.

Stunned into silence probably, traumatised, almost certainly blotting it
out because it is so painful to remember. Only now after extensive
counselling and therapy does she feel able to put her twopennorth (not
to be confused with her tuppence) into the character debate about a
Prime Minister determined to bring Brexit about. Which of course has
nothing to do with it.

You seem not to have noticed the timing of her ‘revenge’.

Let me rephrase my previous statement with an extra detail -

The victim was so shocked and outraged that she said nothing for 20 years,
and then chose the eve of the first Tory party conference with Boris as PM to
pluck up the courage to go public.

Even Benny Hill was not that calculating or sinister.

Arcruri allegations have led the news cycle for the last few days. It
goes to show that BoJo and Dom don’t have anywhere near the level of
control that they wish they had, which is going to cause them big
problems given the fanny-crazed Johnson’s sordid personal life
(nobody actually knows how many children he’s spawned).
Does it matter?

Where's the 'scandal'.  'Attractive man enjoys sex with women'?
For Cole, that probably is a scandal - or at the very least, an
unsatisfactory prospect.

What if Boris made his grand spnding pledges, allowed them to sink in to
his base's thinking and then, to avoid further scrutiny of his spending
bonanza, actually encouraged the thigh squeezing story to come out to
deflect attention.

That's a page straight out of Lynton Crosby's playbook.

As the Conservative Party begins its conference against a backdrop
of self-created pure chaos, Boris has just made a pledge to spend
13 Billion quid on building 40 new hospitals, doubtless the first
of many uncosted pledges to come over the next few days. Now, I’ve
got a genuine question for any Tory voters reading; do you
actually believe these promises or do you see them for the naked
distractions and lies they clearly are? If the latter, why do you

40 new hospitals? Brilliant idea. What's not to like?

Better than Labour's socialist nonsense about re-nationalising
everything, rapaying all student debt, unaffordable minimum wage and
putting everyone on a 4-day week.

And if you're interested in the costing of such proposals:

The 40 hospitals are simply the latest in Boris's growing list of
promises - or in case they never happen, might it not be better to call
them 'aspirations'?

No, 'aspirations' is already taken, it's the trade union euphemism for

Yes indeed, how right you are. Obviously Dianne Abbott is paying way
over the odds for these police.

What with all the savings from the Brexit closures that have occurred
and less need to import all those luxury items like food now that the
pound has plummetted, there is loads of money available as Boris has
found.

Abbott might just have been looking in the wrong place for the cash.
Boris has not only rendered May's magic money tree a total work of
fiction, he has found a magic money forest, the like of which dwarfs
the Amazon into insignificance.

Eat your heart out Abbott, the new Tory left has you beaten hands

Easy. Just threaten all hand car wash crooks and their slave

That way, the real plod are free to do some proper policing.

It is actually 6 new or refurbished during the next parliament - if Boris

Doesn't need to win outright, just have enough non Tory MPs who are
prepared to support doing that.
Boris would win by a landslide if he threw his hat in with Nigel, but he
won't do that 'cos he's a closet remainer following the same playbook as
May.

As I've said before, if we're not out, cleanly, before the next
election then the Conservative party will be able to save 650 deposits,
and in the one after, and the one after that... and the Leave vote will
no longer be split.

Its not going to be split that much given that the only major party
that is unambiguously going to revoke Article 50 and ignore the
referendum result is the LD. While the SNP is also unambiguously
remain, they only have any chance of getting a seat in scotland
and have managed to get almost all of those seats and isnt
under any real threat from the LD there in any of those seats.

Certain some Labour voters wouldn’t be seen dead
voting for the LD, but that’s not splitting the remain
vote, those will mostly just not vote for any party.

It depends how the voters are grouped together geographically. UKIP
suffered from the same disadvantage that the LIbDems always have, namely
that their support is pretty evenly spread over the whole of the UK. If
you want to maximise the number of MPs you get in relation to the

They clearly don’t given how useless the polls were in determining
the seats each party ended up with in the general elections. Or more
strictly they know their business quite well, but there isnt any way
to actually get a useful indication of which party will get which
seat with just 1000 in the whole country being polled and something
like half of those not actually bothering to vote, so their voting
intention is completely irrelevant because they don’t actually vote.

40 new hospitals? Brilliant idea. What's not to like
Building hospitals is the easy bit.

Its finding the doctors and nurses to staff them, that's the hard bit.

Whether the "hostile environment" which will have been created as a
result of Brexit will be a great help in that regard is of course another
matter,

I wonder if anyone asked Boris about that ?

If you don'r believe me simply Google "11,576 vacancies"
for pages of links.

Altogether at the end of June the NHS had 107,743 unfilled posts

None of which has been helped by uncertainty over visas Post Brexit

40 new hospitals? Brilliant idea. What's not to like
Building hospitals is the easy bit.
Its finding the doctors and nurses to staff them, that's the hard bit.
Interestingly, Labour state:

"The next Labour government will reverse privatization of our NHS and return our health service into expert public control."

And a (private) manager essentially stated that it would be impossible for the state to undertake all the employees that are now outsourced.

Or do you assume they all think
as you do?
I’m interested in the reaction of Tory voters to the “pledges” being made
by the Tory leader. HTH.
I am more interested in Labour pledges which are not costed and indeed are impossible to cost.

Pledges which involve the sequestration/stealing of private assets such as independent schools 'reforms' to inheritance tax which redirect more of the assets of the deceased to the state, Inhibitions to be placed upon land/asset transfers within families. Attitudes to Corporation tax and corporate taxation in particular.

The whole story fell to pieces since starting this thread; it’s six
hospitals, not 40, and that includes refurbs, already announced as you say.
If this is the best they can manage to launch their election campaign, the
Tories are doomed.

I believe them just as much as any pledge I hear.....such as those at the Labour conference last week ;-)

I would note, however, that against the tendency in the western world, the UK government has more or less balanced the books, so a government could overspend without getting anywhere near the debt situation of it's peers.

He is in no position to ensure that this will happen due to the lack of
a majority in the House of Commons and he may well not be PM for much
longer for other reasons. Presumably everyone knows this. What will
happen after a general election is hard to say.
