I have actually begun to enjoy Dead Ringers. It seems to have developed from a (to me) somewhat tedious impressions-based sketch show into a
programme with some genuinely funny satirical bite.
It has (and is) _changing_. I originally enjoyed the impressions, then
got very fed up with that bit where they 'phoned some unsuspecting bod
pretending to be someone else [if it was genuine, it was cruel; if it
was fake, I didn't see the point of it - at least not more than once or
twice], and their over-use of the Tom Baker voice (good though it was).
Of late, it's started to become, as you say, satirical, and topical -
melding into, really, the Now Show with added imitations. Losing some of
its identity in the process, though that doesn't really matter IMO.
(I'd still rather have the News Quiz all the time. And with Sandi back.)
