I have been quite intrigued following the story where The Nation Trust
was forcing its volunteer staff to wear rainbow badges in support of an
"an LGBTQ campaign".
(I wonder what the Q stands for?)
I appreciate being forced to wear a badge is nowhere near being forced
not to be homosexual, which I believe is what the campaign was about and
was commemorating the anniversary of the change in the law. But the
irony of forcing people to do stuff was obviously wasted on them
although I now see they have climbed down and have made badge wearing
'optional'.
Personally, I could not give a toss about what people do in their
bedrooms and 100% support gay marriage to the point that I also think
cohabiting family members should be able to register a relationship for
tax and inheritance purposes - but I do draw the line at being forced to
wear a political badge for an unrelated unpaid, volunteer role.
Who do these people think they are, forcing their opinions on everyone
else?
In fact I would probably even draw the line at wearing one for a paid
role, if the badge was not directly part of my employment.
