Lawrence Ferlinghetti - Baseball Canto
I'm not biting the hook this time.
Besides, I've already laughed at Ferlinghetti
There you go again, PJR.

Your obvious jealousy of your betters, Ferlinghetti now, Ginsberg
earlier, is unbecoming.

Besides, I've already laughed at Ferlinghetti's risible attempts at
"poetry" many times in the past decade.
"Reading Ezra Pound" - as if any "beat" moron would know how to.
I suppose if there are beats who don't know how to read Pound, I
should help them out by letting Pound read to them.

No, that's just another of PJR's many mistakes, this one
"underestimating the enemy".

Same reason the Brits lost the Revolutionary War and have needed help
from the United States ever since... just sayin'.

Here's the Sam Singer tune, which he actually set my poem to music to
on bass. This version is Brian Mallard, Gene Woolfolk Jr & Jack Snipe
on all instruments, my poem & vocal, obviously...

Stop that. You know better. You're only making it worse. Fuck. 5am and
I need ice already. This is not the way I wanted to start my day. I
know you think you're trying to be instructive, but do you think you

It sounds odd you'd hope I have a good day at this late hour. We just
ate dinner. Angel's sister Jeanie, Maasson and Stephanie are here too.
We had ham and kale and mac&cheese. Mmm. I told Angel you said hi. She
said, "Fred? Do I know Fred?" I told her you were just some guy from
the group. No offense intended.

invariably ridicule me on Usenet, saying I sound like an uneducated

I think we went through this before, didn't we? If you don't feel
comfortable calling, don't call. No worries. Will doesn't like using
the telephone either. It's no big deal. I'm perfectly comfortable like
this or on the phone. Either way works for me. I don't believe you're
shy though. That's just more of your bullshit. If you knew me like my
friends know me you'd presume all those things. I've got some really
rude fucking friends. Like Robert. He's a CPT, cardio pulmonary
technician who sells C arms, if you know what those are. He's on the
road a lot, and stops here at all odd hours. He just showed up,
unannounced, as usual. That's our Robert Dalrymple, LOL.

I'm not biting the hook this time.

Pound was British?
Stop that. You know better. You're only making it worse. Fuck. 5am and
I need ice already. This is not the way I wanted to start my day. I
know you think you're trying to be instructive, but do you think you
could be just a little less contemptuously disengenuous in the
process? Thanks ever so much, sweetheart. *smooch* Y'all have a nice
day now, ya hear?
Me, disingenuous?
Hope you have a good day also.  Say hello to Angel for me, and ask her
to please post to Usenet more frequently.  She's very entertaining.

None taken.  I am a bit peeved you didn't invite me to dinner.
Bullshit. If you were in the neighborhood, you'd be here. I'm easy to
find, and you have my phone numbers. Anyway, if you ever figure out
how, or why you should stop trying to bullshit me, you know you're
welcome here anytime.
I'm a bit shy in real life.  I would never presume to just show up at
your door, unannounced, and invite myself to dinner.  Same for phone
calls.  When I have spoken to Usenet personalities via telephone, they
invariably ridicule me on Usenet, saying I sound like an uneducated
hick.  So, if I call you, are you available?
You weren't shy when you called me in the middle of the night calling
me a "kiddie-fucker".
When exactly is the middle of the night? I keep really odd hours. I
sleep like a baby, which usually means I'm up every couple of hours,
eat, then cry myself back to dreamland. Angel's cool with it so long
as she doesn't have to wash diapers.

Would it matter if Nazi skinheads loved your music, Will? For example,
if you found out that there was a subculture of racist thugs who
really loved your music, and used your songs as a rallying and
recruiting tool at all their racist thug club meetings, how would you
react to their free use of your work? How would you feel if your music
was played in prison, and a child molesting, rapist, murderer thought
your music was the real cat's meow? What if, all of a sudden, you
became really popular, but only with the outcast, dregs of society.
How would that affect your perception of whatever the fuck you call
what you do?

I asked you,
specifically and directly.
Okay, my honest answer is that I don't *know* what I would do, since I
don't have a "problem" like that and don't expect to.

But if I did, I guess I might do some research and see what others
that have been in a situation similar to what you describe did, which
may have been why I used Ron Paul's example, since he's currently
having similar problems.

Or maybe I'd check into what, say, Paul McCartney did when Charles
Manson took "Helter Skelter" and ran with it.

Okay, now that's an honest and direct answer for you... take it or
leave it.

You gave no indication of having any such understanding.
Sure I did... I even congratulated the kid.
Right. Think about that. You congratulated somebody you've never met,
who you only know by name, who doesn't read the group, and who will
never know that you congratulated him, or what you congratulated him
for. Even if I told him, "Will Dockery says congratulations on the
Bonnaroo gig.", he wouldn't understand or appreciate your
congratulations because you have no sense of mutual understanding. He
wouldn't know what you mean. He hasn't done anything to warrant
congratulations from you. It wouldn't make sense to him, and there's
no way I can make you make sense to him if you don't make sense. And
you don't make sense.

I'll just refrain from offering them in the future.

Jeez, Will. For real, get over yourself. Nobody's refusing anything
for crying out loud. You don't even know Maasson, or have any reason
to congratulate him. You could've congratulated me, because I'm the
one who actually did the thing, made the hookup, and because I'm the
person you actually know, and are communicating with. But no, you
didn't do that. Instead, you wanted me to offer a congratulation for
you to someone who doesn't deserve one yet, at least not until he
performs on his contract, and someone who doesn't know you from Adam.

I'm sure you read earlier where I just decided I was done with all
this.

I'm not congratulating anyone now, I retracted all my
congratulations... I found your reaction to my simple gesture
offensive.

Now I'm in favor of letting all this pass, we're done with it.

When you hear "Helter Skelter" do you hear music or massacre? I hear
music.
I always, always hear Paul McCartney and his story... slim as it is.
Slim story, fat sound, whatever you want to call it, the good News, as
they say, is that the heart of rock and roll is still beating, and
from what I've seen I believe 'em. Now, the old boy may be barely
breathing, but the heart of rock and roll, THE heart of rock and roll
is still beating.  Remember Baby Huey? Now THAT was one lovable
fucking duckling. LOL.
New York, New York! Is it everything they say?
Have fun... I'll be working, putting a rock show together on May 5th.
Do you have to put up screens to keep people from throwing garbage and
eggs at you

On buggery, from Bogomil, for that's its origin,
Though it is not my practice, I do not think it a sin.

I'm not biting the hook this time.

Pound was British?
Ezra, 3rd Viscount Pound, was Prime Minister in 1776. After personally
leading British troops against some colonial tax-dodgers (who were
finally defeated in 1812), he retired to pursue his hobby of
dog-breeding. His cross of a mastiff with a dachshund was so popular
that it was commemorated in the song "You ain't nothing but a Pound
Dog."

If Dreckery doesn't believe me, I'll put up a Wikia.com page, and that
will make it true.

You could insult my reading comprehension and make insincere
references to my very real very serious neurological issue, or you
could take the time to explain yourself to someone who genuinely
doesn't understand what you meant. Life is full of tough choices. Of
course, some are obviously tougher than others.

Okay, I just assumed you were trying to insult me, since I'm non-

I'm going to bed. You can apologize tomorrow. And it better be a damn
good one if you want to keep a friend, asshole.
Wow.
Yes, I apologize... I had no idea you were so sensitive about all
this, get some rest and here's hoping you wake up back to normal again
in the morning, my friend.
I don't try to insult people. I'm not that subtle. If I insult you,
you know damn well you've been insulted. There's no mistaking my
insults. If I say I don't understand something you said, that doesn't
mean either of us are stupid. I have severe bilateral tinnitus. I
don't hear so good. Same goes for how I read. Sometimes I don't read
so good. If I ask you to explain something, don't get all pissy and
repeat yourself. Just assume I didn't hear you correctly the first
time.

You could insult my reading comprehension and make insincere
references to my very real very serious neurological issue, or you
could take the time to explain yourself to someone who genuinely
doesn't understand what you meant. Life is full of tough choices. Of
course, some are obviously tougher than others.
Okay, I just assumed you were trying to insult me, since I'm non-
plussed that anyone would or could be confused by what I wrote.
If you really don't understand what I meant in those two senetences,
then I suppose I could explain.
I really don't understand what you meant. Please explain. It could
be that Corey and I are both dumbasses, unable to comprehend what we
read. I doubt it. It has been my experience that when the audience
does not understand the presentation, the fault lies with individual
presenting the information.

Try to not think in terms of personal fault, or blame. Look up
violinist Josh Bell and the sociological experiment he and the
Washington Post conducted in the DC subway. There is no denying Bell's
musical genius, but when playing in a busy subway station, his
audience didn't understand or appreciate the presentation. Who is at
fault? Everybody should be sorry for, and repent every moment in their
respective lives that went wholly unappreciated. Seize each moment as
if it is your last, and revel in it. Whatever you do, enjoy the music.
Then make your own joyful noise.

"underestimating the enemy".

PJR has a pattern of showing similar jealousy of and for the works (& fame)
of quite a few poets who are better poets than he could ever hope to be,
right offhand I can remember him demstrating this over Ginsberg, Dickinson,
Cohen, Hammes... and now the master poet Ferlinghetti.

So, you may not agree but I have my opinion and you have yours on the
matter, obviously.

Yes, we do. But, PJR has always explained the reasons he dislikes
certain poets. Constructive criticism. Isn't that what these groups
are for? It is not written into the US Constitution that one must bow
down before the greatness of Ginsberg, Ferlinghetti, or, for that
matter, Dickinson. (In case you haven't noticed, I despise Dickinson's
poetry. In college, if I required to write about Dickinson, I
invariably received a poor grade)

So, do you dislike Pound?

OMG, LOL! You are truly laughable, Fred. Get over yourself and your
hero worship of PJR. He's nothing but an elitist fop who constantly
compares himself to the likes of certain poets of whom he is envious.
Your stated opinion of Dickinson is particularly revelatory. Of your
current sex life, if nothing else. Do your own homework.

Oh, sure: He doesn't like Ginsberg because (he says) Ginsberg's a
"turd" and a "pedophile". He doesn't like Dickinson because (he says)
she was "looney" and a "dyke". He doesn't like Whitman, or Poe, or
Longfellow, because all their poems are "crap."

No, I don't think the alt. poetry groups are not for dumping on

Lots of people don't like Dickinson. Perhaps 10% or less of what she
wrote was worth publishing (same as any almost any other poet) - if
her heirs had limited themselves to publishing that 10% or less, she'd
probably have a much better reputation. Unfortunately, for reasons of
historical accident, her every word has been published, and the good
stuff is consequently hard to find. But that's not her fault, and it
doesn't mean the good stuff doesn't exist.

Pound is someone who could have benefitted from the "10% or less" rule
even more than Dickinson. In his case, though, it was his fault, as he
wasn't dead at the time.

No, in spite of the fact that Ezra Pound was a bugfuck crazy Anti-Semite,
I've often found him to be often amusing, and an interesting storyteller,
here's a post I made about Pound a number of years ago:

"I had withdrawn in forest and my song
Was swallowed up in leaves..."
-Robert Frost

[from the review of "A Boy's Will" by Robert Frost]:

"I remember that I was canoeing and thirsty and I put into a shanty for
water and found a man who had no water and gave me cold coffee instead.
And he didn't understand it, he was from a minor city and he "just set
there watchin' the river" and didn't "seem to want to go back," and he
didn't care for anything else. and so I presume he entered into Anunda.
And I remember Joseph Campbell telling me of meeting a man on a
desolate waste of bogs, and he said to him, "it's rather dull here";
and the man said,

"Faith, ye can sit on a middan and dream stars."

And that is the essence of folk poetry with distinction between America
and Ireland. And Frost's book reminded me of these things..."
