Former President Barack Obama resurfaced on Friday and took a shot at Fox News viewers, saying they’re “living on a different planet” than people who consume mainstream media.

Obama made the remarks on the premiere of the new monthly Netflix series “My next guest needs no introduction with David Letterman,” which hit the streaming service on Friday morning.

Letterman then asked Obama what he considers the more dangerous threat to a democracy, the president demeaning the press or a foreign power sabotaging the voting process. Both options are clearly jabs at President Trump and Obama answered without mentioning the current president’s name.

“One of the biggest challenges we have to our democracy is the degree to which we don’t share a common baseline of facts,” Obama said. "If you watch Fox News, you are living on a different planet than you are if you are listening to NPR.”

The response got a big round of applause from the presumably liberal crowd at the City College of New York. Obama has a long history of taking shots at Fox News but the recent comment marks his first public attack on the network and its viewers since leaving the White House.

While Trump is often criticized for attacking the media and labeling CNN as “fake news,” Obama’s comment is a reminder that the White House and the press have sparred for decades. Obama once even accused Fox News of “attacking” his administration during an interview with CNBC."

Fox News viewers, working middle class tax payers, soldiers, cops and those who refused to drink
Obama's left wing Kool aid - we're all just part of the Democrat's big basket of "Deplorables". And we
were insulted, criticized and ridiculed daly during the eight long years of
Obama's reign. So it's good to see that Obama hasn't changed his low opinion of us.

But we haven't forgotten the damage he did to America. Leading from behind and letting ISIS
take over whole cities, slaughter thousands of people and kill Americans. Backing down
from his "red line" in Syria, letting the Russians invade the Ukraine and giving Iran
$150 Billion dollars to fund world wide terrorism as they shout "Death to America"
in the streets.

Not to mention what he did to the American economy is eight years:

Obama’s economy:
*$20 trillion national debt.
*Lowest labor participation rate since the 1970s.
*Almost 95,000,000 Americans out of the labor force.
*Added more debt than all the other 43 U.S. Presidents combined.
*Worst economic recovery since the 1940s.
*Lowest homeownership rate in 51 years.
*There are13 million more Americans on food stamps.
*More than 43 million Americans living in poverty.
*One in five families without someone in the workforce.
*Average family has more debt than in 2008, when the economy collapsed.
*Wasted a $trillion dollars on shovel ready jobs that never materialized.
*Eight straight years of 2%, or less GDP growth.

I am just glad Obama is finally gone and President Trump
is working to clean up the mess he left behind.

Yet both the Obama and Trump administrations are in unilateral support of apartheid Israel, with Obama awarding Israel 38 billion American tax-payer dollars during his last year in office, and Trump during his first year as American president announcing the US embassy move from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem after making NO AMERICAN BUDGET cuts to Israel.

Your government has been hijacked Irish Mike, and neither Fox News or MSNBC will tell you the truth.

“One of the biggest challenges we have to our democracy is the degree to which we don’t share a common baseline of facts,” Obama said. "If you watch Fox News, you are living on a different planet than you are if you are listening to NPR.”
His first statement is opinion wrapped in philosophy, and worthy of some
discussion. His second statement is indisputable fact, which any
FoxNews will happily confirm.

What I am saying is if you believe as does Joe Biden that a weekly sitcom like 'Will & Grace' could affect the public opinion's to accept homosexuality, then imagine what a constant steady diet of mainstream media droning can do to alter American public opinion.

Yeah, the third option is to turn off all the shit, and gawd forbid, THINK.

Think for yourself using your best judgement.

If the quality of your life is dependent upon the quality of the stories you tell yourself, imagine the quality of life in a sovereign nation that never thinks, instead buys the news stories uncritically.

There is a difference between spin and lies.
There is a difference between opinion and lies.
Spin is spin. Opinion is opinion. Lies are lies.

Of the three, Fox News contains all three... but they excel at lying.
Not honest mistakes... but out and out lying.

That isn't "news" - it's propaganda. Fox "News" is a State Run
Propaganda operation.
If you've watched it for even a short amount of time, you KNOW that.

If you haven't watched Fox News lately, I would encourage everybody to
do so. Just make sure to watch a real news network too, so you'll know
what you're up against.

The contrast will startle you.

I'm surprised mpig said something that stupid. He was around for the
Cold War. He knows what Pravda is. That's what Fox News is. MSNBC is
left leaning, except for Morning Joe who is just a jackass. Left
leaning doesn't mean they deviate from facts, though, which they don't.
There are internet sites that report on inaccuracies in reporting and
pretty much Fox is the only thing they need to talk about.

Yup! Unafraid to manipulate and sit on news stories that might hurt

Fox News had a story at the height of the presidential election that detailed an alleged sexual relationship between porn actress Stephanie Clifford -- whose stage name is "Stormy Daniels" -- and Donald Trump, but opted not to publish it, four people familiar with the matter told CNN.
The allegation of a relationship was no secret to Fox News, though.
One of the network's reporters, Diana Falzone, had filed a story in October 2016 about an alleged sexual relationship between Clifford and Trump, people familiar with the matter said.
Falzone had an on-the-record statement from Clifford's manager at the time, Gina Rodriguez, confirming that her client had engaged in a sexual relationship with Trump, three of these people said, and Falzone had even seen emails about a settlement.
But the story never saw the light of the day, to the frustration of Falzone, two of the people said. "She had the story and Fox killed it," one of the people familiar with the matter told CNN.

- EMAILS ABOUT A SETTLEMENT

And, yet, your "fair, balanced and unafraid" "news" network killed the

Fox News - fair, balanced and unafraid.
Irish Mike
Yup! Unafraid to manipulate and sit on news stories that might hurt
their political agenda.
Post by i***@gmail.com

- ON THE RECORD STATEMENTS
- CONFIRMATION FROM THREE PEOPLE
- EMAILS ABOUT A SETTLEMENT
And, yet, your "fair, balanced and unafraid" "news" network killed the
story, anyway.
They're almost as big a fraud as your are, Fake Vet.
Almost.
It's a good thing they "sat" on that story because it was a lie. I
guess that doesn't matter to libs like FPP. Oh and CNN complaining
about Fox News is just hysterically funny.

IMHO it's the other way around. Though not a steady diet, I can and have watched Fox News. I live in the real world. What I see is real. On the other hand the *news in general* is quite literally a storytelling medium. Sometimes the stories are factual, sometimes the stories are nearly pure fiction. The stories are almost always told to shape public opinion and to conjure a majority consensus. This holds true in all the media outlets in the present day reality.

Trump is a poor storyteller, Obama was a master.

Without exception all the media paints Israel in a sympathetic light. So the bipartisan consensus of both admins, and the American people, is always sympathetic to Israel, even when Israel is killing unpublished accounts of children.

America is easily controlled because Americans only watch American news stories.

Above, I pick up to apparently conflicting sentiments: 1) a (mild)
condemnation of Obama for being a 'master' storyteller, and 2) an
appreciation of good storytellers as the ones who reveal the truth as
they see it.

Meanwhile (and though no one asked), I personally don't invest in a lot
of news, remaining aware that its worldview is congenitally subject to
all manner of distortion -- from biological tribalism to Machiavellian
mega-deception. Moreover, I hope that the Internet, which daily brings
me evidence supporting that awareness, is bringing it also to others.

Former President Barack Obama resurfaced on Friday and took a shot at Fox News viewers, saying they’re “living on a different planet” than people who consume mainstream media.
A Real Shithole Planet.

"Our" democracy? Isn't an affirmative action education great, that he
still hasn't had to learn that the USA is a republic? Or is he talking
about Kenya again?

Facts should be commonly held because they're facts, not because anyone
wants you to believe them.

"Bill Clinton's comparison is sure to rankle people on MSNBC, who consistently reject the notion that they are the Democratic-leaning version of Fox News. Recently, the network’s most prominent voice, Rachel Maddow, discussed this idea with Slate.

“There may be liberals on TV at MSNBC, but the network is not operating with a political objective, whereas Fox is operating with a political objective"

Afaics, "second-tier news" networks like FOX and MSNBC have the
objective of appealing to their viewers -- a feedback-loop that, whether
consciously or unconsciously, roots each to its respective end of the
political spectrum. E.g., I watched Olbermann not to learn the day's
events, but to enjoy his roasts of people I already disliked.

And there is nothing wrong with that imho. Olbermann leans left and doesn't try to hide it, so viewers know where he is coming from.

I follow Glenn Greenwald closely, love his analytical mind and he doesn't hide his left leaning human rights agenda. I love him as a fellow traveler working for social justice. He doesn't hide his agenda, but still, I frequently fact check his claims with other sources when I can. I like Glenn and his whole team, I trust them, but still verify with other sources.

Point is, Greenwald and company have an agenda, they don't hide it while pretending to be unbiased like FOX.
