Discussion:
French " déséquilibrés’’, the ‘’unbalanced’’ – a word fast entering the lexicon for such circumstances.

In a violent attack causing trepidation amongst Paris’ Jewish community, a 66-year-old Orthodox woman, Sarah Halimi, was murdered to the cry of ‘‘Allahu Akbar’’ early Tuesday morning, pushed from the window of her top-floor apartment in Paris’ 11th arrondissement.
The accused, a 27-year-old of Muslim origin known to police for a string of offenses, had broken into the apartment of his victim – reportedly scaling the exterior wall from the floor below where he lived with his parents – to stab his victim before throwing her to her death.
Whilst the motives behind this crime are not yet 100% clear, it represents a growing phenomenon of criminal acts being preceded by cries of ‘‘Allahu Akbar’’ (‘’God is Great’’) consistently explained by French media as the acts of ‘’déséquilibrés’’, the ‘’unbalanced’’ – a word fast entering the lexicon for such circumstances.

I say: For brevity, my comments are limited to the use of the word. Notwithstanding the possible legal implication that the unbalanced might be not guilty by reason of insanity, ’déséquilibrés' is not used only if one who commits violence is Muslim.
Déséquilibres (1982) - IMDb
Short · A handicapped woman recognizes the man who, when they were children, pushed her off a bridge
But it is true that the word " déséquilibrés "
is noticeably common in articles
for such circumstances, right?

Maybe the word [déséquilibrés] is closer
to Am.Eng disturbed ?

I'm wondering if we have anything like this in English.
-- how about the word "deranged"
as in [deranged gunman] ?

Well, did the news media call IRA terrorists Catholic terrorists?

At the funeral of Joe Fenton killed by the IRA for spying for the British:
The local priest, Father Tom Toner, condemned the IRA and said: “To you the IRA and all who support you or defend you, we have to say that we feel dirty today. Foul and dirty deeds by Irishmen are making Ireland a foul and dirty place, for it is things done by Irishmen that make us unclean. What the British could never do, what the Unionists could never do, you have done. You have made us bow our heads in shame and that is a dirty feeling.”

So a Catholic terrorist is ok, a Protestant terrorist, a Muslim, terrorist or an American terrorist is not ok.

The point is that a "camion fou" does not have a driver,

In the early weeks of his presidency, U.S. President Donald Trump frequently used the term "fake news" to refer to traditional news media, singling out CNN.[66] Linguist George Lakoff says this creates confusion about the phrase's meaning.[67] According to CBS 60 Minutes, President Trump may use the term fake news to describe any news, however legitimate or responsible, with which he may disagree.[50] President Trump also used social media site Twitter to express that “there is popular support for his executive order temporarily prohibiting the entry of all refugees as well as travellers from seven majority-Muslim nations”, and any surveys which appear to show significantly higher number of people opposing the ban “are fake news, just like the CNN, ABC, NBC polls in the election.” [68]

Just keep Mass Merdia, it's ok and descriptive.
fake news is another issue, tho not unrelated.

Mass Merdia describes the whole bundle of shit and propaganda crap that the official me(r)dia keep selling down people's throats.

Merdiapute is another word = Me(r)dia-whore. I guess Merdiapresstitute could be a good translation for Merdiapute.

There's now a saying about journalists: either a Merdia-whore or unemployed.
That's what Merdias are about.

Can there be innocuous possibilities? Such as ... The news media didn't want to grant guilty parties what they apparently wanted. IOW, the perpetrator possibly desired the status of being a spokesperson for Islam which status the news media are loath to grant him, and quoting him might be what is desired by parties like ISIS which take credit for such deeds and thereby might play into their hands. Now, ...

1) Suppose the news media had reported that Baruch Goldstein was unbalanced, after his massacre of 29 Arabs at the Cave of Machpelah. What would have been the Arabs' reaction?

2) Do readers really believe that news media evaluate people's mental condition? If not, do any readers get misled by news media making claims of mental incompetence? The latest:

There's no point in denying that Islam, especially Sunnite Islam is aggressive and murderous.
Sunnite muslims who are not aggressive and murderous have to be put in front of their responsibilities in supporting murder and jihad of other muslims.

Anyway, the desire to psychologize political issues is a symptom how totalitarian the merdias are.

filasTi:n "Palestine" was a well known geographical long before that,
and there are attestations to that as well as filasTi:niyy "Palestinian"
used to designate people who cam from there, as there were Iraqis and
Egyptians.
Roman Catholics were told to stop hating Jews more than half a century
ago, so> it looks like you're a heretic, too.
While I don't frequently agree with Arnaud, his recent postings
are anti-Zionist not anti-Jewish.
Anyone who has taken the road from the Dead Sea to Jerusalem and passed
the monstrosity called Ma'ale Adumim could hardly disagree.

yes, a very clear distinction is to be made between Jews and Zionism.
It's a fallacy to confuse the two notions.

Isn't it etymologically simply the name of the biblical Filistines?
Although they were not a semitic people at all. Probably Cretans, but
that is uncertain.

Yes. Philistines with aspirated ph is (probably) more accurate.

Hypothetical POL LAS TON would also have named the Roman Palatine Hill
on which Romulus ploughed the pomerium, sacred enclosure of Roma Quadrata,
core of ancient Rome, according to the Old Roman tradition on April 21,
753 BC - tomorrow 2,770 years ago. The Roma Quadrata would then have been
a fortified settlement POL on a hill or 'mountain' LAS that made itself
heard TON = ruled the surrounding region. Palestine was a suiting name
for Judah, considering fortified settlements like Lakhesh and Jerusalem,
on hills, ruling the surrounding regions. Maybe the Sea Peoples claimed
places on the shore of the Levant in the same spirit. Anyway, the history
of the Mediterranean in the wake of the Trojan war, at the end of the Bronze
Age and beginning of the Iron Age, was most complicated. Israel is located
in the eye of a historical tornado, as it were.

anti-zionists are just that, and there are a significant number
of Jews among them.

My house is 20m away from a synagog, and I have no problem listening them recite their prayers and songs every week. I consider they pray the same God as mine. And this situation has been so for 21 years.
They have a marble plate on the outside wall that lists all dead Jews from my hometown in previous wars. I can see it from my bedroom.
And I have no problem with singing and putting flowers on their tombs, when we commemorate so-called "victories" in previous World Wars.

My opinion is that the confusion between Judaism and Zionism puts French Jews in great danger of being considered accomplices of all the crimes (war crimes, crimes against humanity and human rights, phosphorous bombs and all the rest) of the Zionist state in Palestine.

As long as there are anti-Zionist Jews, especially prominent ones, it's awkward to portray anti-zionism as anti-semitism. Unless a Jew can be an anti-semite, that is. Try this:

Anti-Zionism is studied. Anti-Zionist Jews feature prominently*. That makes it problematic to equate it to anti-Semitism. Unless Jews can be anti-Semites, that is.

I didn't equate it. Look up "a lot of" in a good dictionary, and study
logic: a statement about many X being like Y, says very little about Y
in general.

I suppose they were not "Arabs" but Palestinians.
Since when are Palestinians not Arabs?
since the Zionist State in Palestine declared Palestinians to be Arabs and not Palestinians.
Remember: there's no Palestinian. They just don't exist.
You're amazingly ignorant. Who was it that negotiated with Israel at Camp David
and in Oslo? Who governs the West Bank?
The West Bank is just a shredded occupied territory.
Just try to go there, and you'll know who "governs" [I mean= destroys] the West Bank.
The PoV of the Zionists is that Palestinians are "Arabs" and do not exist.
Your ignorance and bigotry know no bounds.
The ethnonym "Palestinian" was invented about a century ago to designate the
Arabs who lived in the territory called Palestine.
You are deluded or a crackpot defending such a premise. Hasbara 'facts' are desinformation. The intention is not to inform, merely to create doubt. Of course that works best with an audience of ignorant morons - which is where "americans" come into the play.

I guess that means English-speakers are smarter than French-speakers, because
we understand to distinguish between nouns and adjectives. "Christian Palestinian
Aramaic" is a language that was written by Christian inhabitants of Palestine,
using a form of Syriac script.
