We have tickets for AYLI at the Globe in July. Any suggestions as to
where we could eat beforehand ?

Rulers looked interesting, but perhaps a bit far away. Any cuisine
except Italian, reasonable price range....

I was going to wonder aloud whether the Anchor was any good these days,
but had a look and was rather put off by their menu of Great British
Classics, top of which is Mexican Bean Salad with Grilled Halloumi
Cheese marinated in Coriander & Lemon Juice.

The Arch Duke under Waterloo Bridge is good value with a good atmosphere.

Should add, I don’t think their Lasagne needs to be described as Italian.

We wouldn't be having it anyway !

Thanks for the suggestion, but it's a bit too far away for my liking. I
just want a relatively short stroll after dinner so we don't have to eat
too early.

Ones I've found myself are:
TAS Pide (very close), the fishy restaurants in Borough Market (Wright
Brothers, Hawksmoor and fish!) and lastly the pubs Anchor )despite their
idea of Britosh classics, the rest of the menu looks OK thanks Kate) and
Founders Arms. ANy comments on those anyone ?

Thanks again.

Fish! was brilliant in its early days but the last time we ate there was
very disappointing.

We are just back from an excellent meal at OXBO but that may be too far
for you. Our children say the OXO tower is good. There is a new branch
of tibits behind Tate Modern - excellent veggie and vegan choices, you
select from a buffet and they charge by weight.

Yes, I saw yr post on FB - OXBO sounds like fantastic value. Dorter and
her partner like OXO tower, but a bit ore than we want to spend I think/

Anyway, waife has looked and decreed that TAS Pide is the one.
Tant pis ! - just been watching Salamander :) - but I quite fancy it
myself actually as something a bit different....

We had a good meal in the Swan Restaurant at the Globe itself. And one
of the cast was in the bar before we ate. A lot easier than eating
somewhere else.

We looked at that, but mixed reviews on TripAdvisor (the other TA [1])

I have read ahead to the "too much/too soon comments", but as one of my
criteria for the best BT is that it should make one wince, I can hardly
refuse to accept a nomination on the grounds that it makes one wince too
much. So the Nomination is accepted...But if anyrat is seriously
offended I will withdraw the post from judging.

Yes, I saw yr post on FB - OXBO sounds like fantastic value. Dorter
and her partner like OXO tower, but a bit ore than we want to spend I
think/
Anyway, waife has looked and decreed that TAS Pide is the one.
Tant pis ! - just been watching Salamander :) - but I quite fancy it
myself actually as something a bit different....
We had a good meal in the Swan Restaurant at the Globe itself.  And one
of the cast was in the bar before we ate.  A lot easier than eating
somewhere else.
We looked at that, but mixed reviews on TripAdvisor (the other TA [1])
and menu not desperately attractive. Thanks for the suggestion though.
[1] And the other UMRA had several mentions on Toady this morning !
As was yesterday, McT says there is only *one* umra!

I think the other one is usually spelt (or perhaps I should say
"rendered into our alphabet", since I think it's a word from a language
that uses a different alphabet) with a final h, i. e. umrah; however,
you can't always hear that in speech - though I've always thought of
(our) UMRA as having a short -a like agenda (or as in UMRAt), whereas
I'd pronounce umrah with a long a as in car.

I thought the final character was a glo''al stop, but I may be mistaken.

No' a glo''al stop.

It is called "tāʼ marbūṭah" and is normally silent. See wickedpedia.

It is indeed, jpeg, but hey sound alike in the mouth of a newscaster.
