I still drop in here sometimes, but everybody has disappeared trolls and
all. I don't care much for Facebook. I liked it here better, but maybe I
will go to Facebook sometime.

The main advantage of that is that you can keep the trolls out. The
disadvantages is that it's very immediate, in that, if you miss a few days
or a week, it's impossible to to find anything as it's very linear, - and
the editor is horrible.

Keep the trolls out? What would be the point of an empty group?

It might be a good idea, but if it has a horrible editor as Soupdragon says,
I don't know. You could try it and see how it works out I suppose. I don't
have a problem with posts from trolls on SCS. I put posters whose posts I
didn't want to see on my blocked list and most times never see their posts.
Most mail/news readers block out posts you are not interested in. I've used
Outlook express and I never see most of the posts from trolls or others who
are semi-trolls :) I use Win XP for my mail and news, but for Win 7 and up
you could use another mail/news reader such as Firefox or others.

Forte Agent has a similar appearance but isn't free any more; I think
one of the other free newsreaders isn't too different but I can't
remember which one. One thing to watch for nowadays is that a
newsreader/mailreader doesn't open attachments by default. Some of the
older ones still available might not run on Windows 7 or newer.
SeaMonkey is another newsreader associated (like Thunderbird) with
Mozilla but also seems to be a browser.

I've used Outlook express since it came out in Internet Explorer 4-6 bundled
with Win 95 up to Win XP. Vista had Windows Mail, which was not the same as
Outlook express but quite similar. I used Vista for a while, and I liked it
OK.
I mostly use Win XP on my desktop and win 7 on my laptop for newer
programs.. I've never opened attachments in OE from the time I first used
it. I've never used the address book as it caused problems for a lot of
people, more in the beginning of Outlook express. its not as convenient not
to use an address book, but it's saved me a lot of problems. Also, what I
like about OE is the mail and newsreader is all on the same page, so you can
download both at the same time. I haven't tried win 8 and don't know if I
ever will.

With win 7, there is no mail reader, so sometimes use Yahoo on win 7. But I
don't like the setup of it.
I've never used Mozilla or Thunderbird. For newsreader, I've used Aioe for
many years and found it to be very good. Also a good newsreader is Eternal
September except now many Usenet groups have died out. I always thought they
were a good idea, but I guess lots of people didn't.

It just goes to show how a lack of Trolls spells the death of a ng.
Many posters have moved to FaceBook to avoid the trolls.
I still drop in here sometimes, but everybody has disappeared trolls and
all. I don't care much for Facebook. I liked it here better, but
maybe
I
will go to Facebook sometime.
I liked it here, too, but...
I've thought about starting an scs group on Facebook.
Firefox isn't an e-mail client/newsreader. Are you thinking of
Thunderbird ?
Yes, Charles. My mistake.

Mozilla but also seems to be a browser.

That's right. I've had it for about 10 years and it gives no trouble.
Good (and now better) when downloading binaries.

Thats the difference between Agent and my two free news readers, none of
mine have binaries and Aioe is a bit strict with how many posts you can do
in one day. I forget how many but it's enough for me and if it wasn't I
would use Eternal-september. they don't have binaries either,. But I am not
interested in Binaries.

I was just curious. Is it 29 USD a month? I've used Aioe for newsgroups for
about 8 years I think, and sometimes use Eternal-September and both are very
good newsreaders, very rarely have problems. They are both free, so it
wouldn't be any benefit to pay for a newsreader when I don't have to. Are
there any benefits to using Agent8 that I don't get at my free newsreaders?
I see you use Yahoo.ca for your emails. I didnt know you were in Canada. I'm

I had to look it up as I've never heard that term before. On a search a lot
of people asked what it meant. It said it is mainly a UK term and in the
U.S. or Canada you would say "pay one time" or "just a one time payment" or
one time only. in other words it will be paid only one time and no more. I
presume that's what Peter meant.

Simple and wasy to use.
Doesn't work for muy vista though.
I know people have suggested various ways around it but nothing seems to work.
Otherwise I would spend a bit of time in here again but I can't even follow the threads anymore.

I agree. That's why I am still using it since it came out with Win 95 I
think. Windows XP was the last Operating system which bundled with Outlook
Express for emails and the few newsgroups I still read/post. I use OE on Win
XP on my desktop and still use Win XP for programs I still use. I use Win 7
on my laptop for newer programs that won't run on Win XP. occasionally I use
Yahoo.com on Win 7, but I don't like it.

When I got my desktop 4/5 years ago, it had Vista installed, but I replaced
it with Win xp -I liked better andWin XP was still being used.I liked Vista
OK.OE was replaced on Vista by "Windows Mail" which I found to be similar to
OE and I liked it OK. If you have your Vista install discs, you should be
able to install "Windows Mail" from them. You might like it. MS dropped
"Windows Mail" after Vista when they brought out Win 7. A lot of people use

It just goes to show how a lack of Trolls spells the death of a ng.
Many posters have moved to FaceBook to avoid the trolls.
I still drop in here sometimes, but everybody has disappeared trolls and
all. I don't care much for Facebook. I liked it here better, but maybe I
will go to Facebook sometime.
I liked it here, too, but...
I've thought about starting an scs group on Facebook.
It might be a good idea, but if it has a horrible editor as
Soupdragon says,
I don't know. You could try it and see how it works out I suppose. I
don't have a problem with posts from trolls on SCS. I put posters
whose posts I didn't want to see on my blocked list and most times
never see their posts.
Most mail/news readers block out posts you are not interested in. I've used
Outlook express and I never see most of the posts from trolls or others who
are semi-trolls :) I use Win XP for my mail and news, but for Win 7
and up you could use another mail/news reader such as Firefox or
others.
Firefox isn't an e-mail client/newsreader. Are you thinking of
Thunderbird ?
Yes, Charles. My mistake.
I use XNews. It's old, but it works with every MS OS I've tried,
threads, good basic editor and has very good kill files.

Would you be willing to be a co-admin? We'd need a few of us for that.
The Skittish Quilters Yahoo group had only one admin, and when she
dropped out, no-one else had authority to do anything with it.

Yes.
You can block anyone you don't want to see, and you can stop them from
seeing you, too.

You can have a private group and have control over it - kick others out who don't agree with your fairytale warming theories.

You just click on a downward arrow beside his name and the drop down menu gives you the option "Delete post and remove user". Easy peasy!

Of course that just keeps me out of your personal world. You see,
everyone isn't your sort of dickhead, Adam.

I liked it here better,

Same here.
I used to really enjoy the laughs we all used to have and even some attempts at intelligent conversation sometimes which was hilarious.

But as you say - it's now infested with right-wingers, climate change deniers and just generaly nasty morons. A shame. This was literaly the best news-group in the world at it's peak.

This is the most people I've seen here in this group for ages. It's nice
seeing some of the "old" regulars again. :<)
Where is Conway?
