Interesting that whenever they say we come from monkeys in an anthropology class you'll hear a spontaneous burst of laughter. It cannot be help. And even questioning of the idea happens. The prof will say, "we's don'ts says we's comes froms monkeys, we's says we's comes froms unknowns commons ancestors."

But it looked like a monkey, acted like a monkey and eeked like a monkey... so why not call it a monkey? Because it was a monkey.

Fact is, however, we didn't come from monkeys. The very paleontological facts that are needed to prove we came from monkeys doesn't exist. That's right, monkey to man is a fantasy, a product of imagination.

We haven't evolved FROM apes, since we ARE apes.
..yes, indeed we are. The great apes are our cousins with whom we
share over 98% of our DNA. The last living ancestor shared by all apes
including humans is thought to be Nyanzapithecus alesi, about 13
million years ago. The fossil evidence is scant but we're pretty sure
that it was a fruit-eating, slow-climbing primate that resembled a
baby gibbon. We're learning more and more but if the fundies had their
way we'd still be looking at 6000 year old dirt balls.

That right? Apparently you've taken a number of anthropology classes.
How many, just out of curiosity?

So it's "unknown common ancestors", and yet you, mirable dictu, know how it looked
and how it acted.

How exactly did you come by this elusive knowledge?

Well, to be honest we are all Tikaalik, he/she did not go extinct, just kept
“movin’ on up” until he/she became us mammals.

Probably why you never quote any biologists who make that claim.

I send a Happy Great/Great/Great Grandmothers’ Day card every year to
Tiktaalik. And I send a card to Great/Great/Great Grandfather Tiktaalik on
Fathers’ Day.

Now if that damned Time Lord would bring me my delivery receipts I would be
happy. If he doesn’t bring them soon I am going to have to leave a bad
recommendation for his company YooWho? Delivery.

We don't _come from_ monkeys - we _are_ monkeys. Chimps and humans are so physiologically and genetically similar any objective taxonomy would put us in the same genus.

And what's amusing about it is that the similarities are so obvious, which is why we laugh at Chimps.

I don't precisely because they are so much like us. They creep me out. That's why I never added monkeys to my stuffed animals collection (until, of course, the Angels' Rally Monkey was born).

“Let me get this straight: You believe that a cosmic Jewish zombie who was
his own father will let you live forever if you pretend to eat his flesh,
drink his blood, and telepathically tell him that you accept him as your
master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that he put there a
long time ago as punishment for all humanity because a rib-woman made from a
dust-man was convinced by a talking snake to eat fruit from a magical tree.
Yeah. Right.“ (unknown)

None of the evolution deniers ever say why they believe science would try to pull a hoax on the world so badly that they even invented new scientific disciplines to fool us. Or how such a hoax could survive for this long, considering how many people would be involved.

Nor have they ever explained what difference it make if we come from a common ancestor or if some deity proofed us into being?

It is completely irrelevant to who each of us is. We are supposed to be in possession of free will which means we choose our actions or no action. We are the sum total of our values and our choices. How the human race and life on earth came to pass is less important than the kind of people we are and how we treat each other.

The biggest problem in all this is there would have to be a deity in order for that part of the story to be true. No way to prove that.

If we believe there is deity capable of such deeds we also have to buy into the idea that he or they as the case may be, have left us information from said deity and rules we are supposed to follow.

But it's not possible to follow those rules and the result is guilt and insanity.

So why bother with worrying how human beings got to be and just work on how we should be to each other.

I know, I know, that's crazy talk!

I think it's worthwhile to consider.
