What Did You Watch? 2017-09-04 (Monday)

On a pretty quiet Labor Day, I didn't watch much...:

golf - Final day of the Dell Technologies Championship in Boston. Wow -
Jordan Speith and Marc Leishman both fell apart on the back-9, allowing
a surging Justin Thomas to run away with this. This is definitely
Justin Thomas' year on the tour! - He's looking like a good bet to win
the FedEx Cup for 2017...

The Last Ship (recorded) - "Nostos". Yep - this ended up being a total
"network time" killer. Pretty much the entire episode was the gang
running around Sardinia (shooting disapproving glances at Chandler the
whole time) looking for Slattery, while Slattery is drugged by that new
drug and has flashbacks about his family before the Red Flu. The only
semi-interesting part here was EVOL!!1! Sibylla Deen on the Greek
destroyer trying to shoot down the Nathan Chandler's helicopter, and
then trying to hit the Nathan James itself, but the crew of the latter
came up with some "trick" to avoid getting hit... Oh, we also learn
that the "Big Bad" of the season is the "doctore" guy from the previous
episode, played by Peter Weller, though we're still not 100% sure what
he's up to...
Let's hope the next episode is more interesting than this one,
though I don't have high hopes... :/

Violetta (The Netflix) - In the episode or two of this that I watched,
the brassy, bitchy blonde "bad girl" Ludmilla, finally gets humiliated,
so there's that. (This was after Camilla was warned to decline the
music contract - foolish Ludmilla signed it when Camilla wouldn't...)
Jade, the fiancee, continues to be an amusing live-action cartoon.
Finally, there's far too many romantic complications to list them all...
P.S. I'm now about a quarter through season #1, and with work
starting up, my viewing of this should now slow down... no clue when
I'll get all the way through season #1 - Christmas is probably a decent
bet... ;)

Maggie & Bianca: Fashion Friends (The Netflix) - Finally got through
the end of season #1 of this one. (Unfortunately, Netflix does not yet
have season #2 available... ;( )
In the end, the gang's band wins the music competition (no surprise
there!), though how they won it - with a pretty mediocre "music video"
- was anticlimatic. The good news is that the rival, band CoolGhost,
was there even at the end of the season - I'm hoping they turn up again
in season #2, as they make good "foils" for our gang.
The finale was pleasingly jam-packed with developments - the final
fashion show/exam was the main topic, with Maggie winning best fashion
student, but the girls do finally discover that they're sisters at the
very end (only took the whole season to get there!!).
Hoping Netflix picks up the later seasons of this one, so I can
continue to watch it in the lovely original Italian!! :)

Have you tried DEATH NOTE yet? The Netflix has both the original anime
in 37 parts and the most recent live action remake.

Doing these on weekday mornings when I have to get up early for work
(which this semester, will generally be M-Th, for sure most weeks, and
M-F, many weeks), shouldn't be a problem. (There might be an occasional

nights this fall anyway!!)

I was a little confused about what's going on with Chandler. When we
first saw him I assumed (I guess correctly) that he was out of the
service, hit rock bottom and slumming it as "Hercules." Then in episode
2, they seemed to heavily imply he was there undercover the whole time.
Then episode 3 we're back to he really was just slumming it and has no
official involvement with the military. :-/

take on it was that he really had become a low profile fisherman who

immortal foe from killing Joe and Chuy, as well as destroying Midnight.
Meanwhile, Creek struggles to recover from her family tragedy.
Elsewhere, the Rev refuses to compromise the safety of his neighbors and
it costs him dearly.]

"Hey, you know, at least your mind is off of it, right? What with your
dad and your evil kid brother. I know what you think: that you let it
happen, that you had blinders on. But the truth is...you did. You really
dropped the ball there."

A fallen angel with anger issues shows up in town. She's after Joe, our
gay fallen angel who's shacking up with a demon. No, really. In the end,
I don't know how the rules work since Chuy, our gay demon, makes quick
work of the new fallen angel before turning around and getting his ass
kicked by Joe, who indicates that he could kill Chuy if it came down to
it. The whole transitive property of things seems to break down there,
but what do I know? In any case, the guest star fallen angel was awesome
and was clearly having a blast chewing on the scenery and showed *way*
more talent than any of the regular cast has shown to date. I was kind
of sad to see her go. As for the episode itself, it ends with Manfred
and Creek breaking up and Manfred running away from town. Somehow, I
suspect that this will prove to be a temporary thing.

BBCA was doing a LaborG Day marathon and I couldn't find anything better...
Obviously, these were all the Borg eps. Wow, they really fucked them up for
this show!

• "Dark Frontier". Captain Safeway decides to steal a transwarp coil from a
damaged Borg Cube, only to discover the notes of 7D's parents, who apparently
had been studying them for years. Whut? Anyhow, the Borg "Queen", which
totally negates the concept of them haivng a hive mind, finds out what they're
trying to do and threatens to assimilate the crew if 7D doesn't join them.
After inexplicably running several trial runs in the holdeck, the landing
party more-or-less encounters the exact sequence of events from the holodeck
simulation! I guess someone was trying to save money or something. And then
things get worse... Ugh.

• "Collective". The crew rescue some surly juvenile Borg whose cube got
infected by a virus that killed the others onboard. While Safeway contemplates
exterminating the Borg while holding a "Borg Baby" (that's not how it works!
At all!), 7D makes the juveniles into good Federation citizens.

• "Unimatrix Zero, Part I"
• "Unimatrix Zero, Part II". Some rebel Borg ask Captain Safway to help
protect their virtual sanctuary they visit while sleeping from being destroyed
by the Borg "Queen". Instead, Safeway makes them able to keep their memories
of Unimatrix Zero when they awaken, thus causing a civil war. Good work,
Captain Janeway! </sarc>

• "Q2". Q drops off the baby Q from a previous ep as a unruly teenager,
expecting Safeway the Spinster to teach him how to behave. For the first half
of the ep, he commits shenanigans like making 7D naked, sealing Neelix's mouth
shut (Hmm, maybe I am misjudging him...), and antagonizing the Borg, which is
why this ep was included in this marathon. At the end, the Q judge him to be a
failure and banish him to live as a mortal with Safeway, but change their mind
off-screen during the final commercial break. No, really!

• "Endgame". The sense-shattering finally of Voyager, in which future Captain
Safeway changes history so she and her crew arrive home several decades early.
Time travel parodox aside, she either did it b/c she couldn't bear Chipolte
and 7D dieing or to escape paying for her crimes against humanity. Alas, the
story concludes "... and they got home. The end." What kind of Barbara
Streisand is that?

TWO AND A HALF MEN:
Charlie gets stoned and starts hallucinating about all his formal girlfriends.

TWO AND A HALF MEN:
Charlie 's driver license is suspended, so the half man has to drive for him.
