Didn't take much research to learn there are few apps for Usenet - and
none are regarded particularly highly. Even so, does anyone have any
recommendations, or should I use a web based Usenet service? Tnx.
You useless pack of cvnts... ;)
I don't think there are any decent Usenet apps for Android.
Yeah... I kinda realised that after some investigation but posted the
question anyway. I guess I'll just have to go to a web based option.
There is a pretty decent one for iphones, Newstap.
Pity it's apple only.
type 'newsgroup reader' into google play. there's quite a few apps
listed. I would assume all or some allow you to post

I've done a couple of searches and investigated all the options,
nobody seems to think there's anything decent out there for Android.
So I've resigned myself to using a paid for web based solution. I
guess it doesnt matter so much anyway when it's on a smart phone and
tablet.

Frankly, I'm starting to wish I went with my instincts and bought a
low end laptop with Windows on it instead of a tablet.

And I'm already thinking of selling the Motorola smart phone I bought
last weekend as the goddamned 'keyboard' is just too small for me to
use. I don't even have big hands or fingers, I'm fucked if I know how
people can type on them without having to backspace/correct every
second character.

I confess to not trying it, but I will. It's been years since I tried
speech to text because none I ever tried was worth a shit. But it
probably works well now. Okay if you're not in a public space I guess.

Text on speech works well on my cheapo LG Android phone. As far as the
keyboard goes, it's a little bigger if you turn the phone on it's side.

It took a while to get used to the keyboard interface on the phone due
to it's small size but on a 10" pad it's not an issue.

No doubt mine does that too, I'll have to try it. It's a strange
feeling being a newbie to technology... proof I'm getting old, I guess

Yes, not so bad on my 8" Samsung tablet.

Fark... I wouldn't trust mine to be waterproof, I can't see how it

Buggered if I know but the world of a smart-phone is interesting. I listened
to the radio on the train which is a bonus but I assume sucks ones data
allowance. Oh well I'll figure it out.

my RFS pager survived 72 hrs + in a horse trough and my old Telstra flip
phoned got washed and dryered, both surviving, so there is hope.

I don't know WTF is wrong with me, but I'm ready to smash both my new
tablet and smart phone. I quite simply cannot use these devices. I
wish I took heed of my instincts to avoid these devices but I didn't.
So it looks like I'm off to buy a laptop and I'll stick to my old
Nokia phone.

I just tried again for the nth time to search for and download a
Usenet app. Either the chrome browser won't respond or as soon as it
does, tells me I'm not connected to wifi (I am connected).

It just ain't worth it persevering with.

As I said I need a smart phone for the Rover first responders app. The rest
of the crap will take longer to get a handle on, I'm not going to read the
95 page .pdf :-( All the stuff I can get looks great but it is a tool and
is not essential to life as some people think it is. Iirc there is a new
word for the anxiety people suffer not being connected 7/24.

FB is good for local community and for sale groups, that sorta thing
(at least until some Indian in a cubicle has on average 1.9 seconds to
decide said page has violated FB terms and shuts it down).

(at least until some Indian in a cubicle has on average 1.9 seconds to
decide said page has violated FB terms and shuts it down).
Only ever seen one shut down and that was because some of the
local clowns ended up completely fucking blotto one friday night
and the group ended up a complete and utter shit fight and shambles.

I've got one of those. They claim it is water proof to 1 m so when I
drop
it
in the animal trough while cleaning them it should be OK
Fark... I wouldn't trust mine to be waterproof, I can't see how it
possibly could be with that flimsy back cover.
The
rest
of the crap will take longer to get a handle on, I'm not going to read the
95 page .pdf :-( All the stuff I can get looks great but it is a tool and
is not essential to life as some people think it is. Iirc there is a new
word for the anxiety people suffer not being connected 7/24.
I can't get over how difficult and restricting these devices are to
use. It's a complete mystery to me why they are so popular.
You're not 14?
Yeah, but most adults seem to think they're great too.
To true and I can't believe why people look at people's Face Book or
twitter.
because they're interested in ppl?..

because they're so useful. it's like having a mini-computer in your
pocket. consider what they can do.. make voice/ video calls, emails,
send texts SMS, send photos MMS, internet, social media, instagram,

for just about everything, pay bills, banking, gambling, location
services; maps, GPS, store documents, files, weather reports, etc.,

That's the divide. The tasks he's talking about are the same ones you
would do at a computer or the like. Most people aren't on their phone
24/7 and I'm certainly one of them. My phone is a convenience thing for
me and I use it to do stuff that I would have to normally defer until I
returned home. Certainly I'm not focused on my phone when I'm
socialising, walking, driving, etc. Time and place and all that!

use. It's a complete mystery to me why they are so popular.
because they're so useful. it's like having a mini-computer in your
pocket. consider what they can do.. make voice/ video calls, emails,
send texts SMS, send photos MMS, internet, social media, instagram,
etc., watch tv, radio, still camera, video camera, video casting, apps
for just about everything, pay bills, banking, gambling, location
services; maps, GPS, store documents, files, weather reports, etc.,
etc., the greatest device ever invented! :)
Indeed, I find them handy though not essential.

Steve Jobs was a salesman though and a creep to those who actually

The main reason behind successful immigration should be painfully
obvious to even the most dimwitted of observers:
Some groups of people are almost always highly successful
given only half a chance
(Jews*, Hindus/Sikhs and Chinese people, for example),
while others (Muslims, blacks** and Roma***, for instance)
fare badly almost irrespective of circumstances.

The Christian belief and fact is Moslems are deceived.
Like Schizophrenics, they need therapy;
Not confirmation of their delusions.
The recognized place of worship in a Christian Nation is a Christian
Church.
Mosques are the recognized place of worship only in Moslem countries
Australia's only legally defined God is our Christian God whose
compound redemptive name is Lord Jesus Christ
Something as simple as denying Moslems a place to pray is all it takes
to make them leave voluntarily and peacefully.

When was a referendum held to change our constitution?
--
Petzl

Australia is Christian (only) contrary to the lie and swindle it's
not!
When did these words start being called a preamble?
http://foundingdocs.gov.au/scan-sid-103.html
They are embedded LAW (never in a preamble)
Australia has NEVER had a "Preamble" that is a con by secularists!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constitution_of_Australia#Preamble
The "signature"
"La Reyne le veult" ("The Queen wills it") or "Le Roy le veult" ("The
King wills it") is a Norman French phrase used in the Parliament of
the United Kingdom to signify that a public bill (including a private
member's bill) has received royal assent from the monarch of the
United Kingdom. It is a legacy of the time prior to 1488 when
Parliamentary and judicial business was conducted in French, the
language of the educated classes after the Norman Conquest of 1066. It
is one of a small number of Norman French phrases that continue to be
used in the course of Parliamentary procedure.

Like it or lump it the following is the reality
According to our law, all our legislation and its administration is to
be interpreted in accordance with the Ten Commandments and the Bible.
This excludes non-Christians from political input!

The God in our Constitution calls on is legally defined as the God of
the New Testament. Compound redemptive name is Lord Jesus Christ.

To be a religion in Australia it has to be In the name of the most
holy and undivided Trinity. In other words a denomination of
Christianity.

The Constitution of Australia Bill was passed by the Imperial
(British) Parliament on 5 July 1900.
Queen Victoria assented four days later, and in September proclaimed
hat the Commonwealth of Australia would come into existence on the
first day of the twentieth century (Tuesday 1 January 1901).
On the occasion, one of the Constitution’s most distinguished
co-authors, Sir John Downer, declared:
The Commonwealth of Australia will be from its first stage,
a Christian Commonwealth’.
During the 1897 Convention delegates have been inundated with
petitions in which the recognition of God in the Constitution was
demanded. The petitions, organized nationally asked for the
recognition of God as the ‘supreme ruler of the universe’; for the
declaration of national prayers and national days of thanksgiving and
‘humiliation’. But, the essence of their petition was that the
Constitution should include a statement of spiritual
—specifically Christian—
identity for the new nation.

The insertion of an acknowledgment of God into the Australian
Constitution occurred in response to overwhelming public support,
which came, among other things, from countless petitions received from
the citizens of every single colony in Australia. Overall, these
petitions reflected the general sentiments of the people for ‘some
outward recognition’ of the Divine Providence, so that the work of the
Australian Framers should ‘fix in our Constitution the elements of
reverence and strength, by expressing our share of the universal sense
that a Divine idea animates all our higher objects, and that the
guiding hand of Providence leads our wanderings towards the dawn

Islam is not a denomination of Christianity under our constitution is
not a religion!

Our Constitution still recognises the monarch of the United Kingdom as
our head of state.

In the feudal system from which our monarchic system arose, the
monarch was God's representative on earth and ruled by "Divine Right".
In other words, the Queen is Queen because God says she is Queen. You
and I cannot be a monarch because God has not chosen us.

So, for the monarchy to enjoy any legitimacy at all, God must exist.
If God does not exist, you and I have as much claim to the throne as
Elizabeth Battenberg ever did and the whole neo-feudal system of rank
and privilege comes crashing down.

It's not now taught in school, but Australia's Constitutional Monarchy
places us under a legally defined God - the Christian God, whose
compound redemptive Name is Lord Jesus Christ. Following the opening
words of our Constitution, "Whereas the people of...", comes the
clause: "...humbly relying on the blessing of Almighty God..."
http://foundingdocs.gov.au/scan-sid-103.html

According to our law, all our legislation and its administration is to
be interpreted in accordance with the Ten Commandments and the Bible.
This excludes non-Christians from political input. Clearly, those who
now have most influence in this country are people with no love for
Jesus Christ, or the Holy Bible.

So Moslems are not even Australian citizens, they are as always
invaders.

Always Moslems blame their murder sprees on everyone but themselves!
Like Schizophrenics, they need therapy. Not confirmation of their
delusions and as refugees made leave their delusions where they
created them.
For around 1,400 years Islam has produced the major majority of the
worlds refugees! Always fleeing from what they created!

I've got one of those. They claim it is water proof to 1 m so when
I
drop
it
in the animal trough while cleaning them it should be OK
Fark... I wouldn't trust mine to be waterproof, I can't see how it
possibly could be with that flimsy back cover.
The
rest of the crap will take longer to get a handle on, I'm not going to
read the 95 page .pdf :-( All the stuff I can get looks great but it is
a tool and is not essential to life as some people think it is.
not essential for life!!? wherever did you get such a ridiculous idea
from??.. :)
Well because they aren't. Australia has survived as a European country for
200+ years without them. My parents don't have a smart phone and imho will
survive as long as they would with one.

not so
Australia is Christian (only) contrary to the lie and swindle it's

Properly, what does that mean? When we got Rover I said we'll use about 5%
of what it can do and I believe that is true of the average person with most
programs or their smart phone apps. OK all these things are useful but
aren't life defining.

Fark... I wouldn't trust mine to be waterproof, I can't see how it
possibly could be with that flimsy back cover.

I have a few ideas..
but I'm ready to smash both my new
tablet and smart phone. I quite simply cannot use these devices. I
wish I took heed of my instincts to avoid these devices but I didn't.
So it looks like I'm off to buy a laptop and I'll stick to my old
Nokia phone.
I just tried again for the nth time to search for and download a
Usenet app.
as I said.. search and download from the Playstore app
Either the chrome browser won't respond or as soon as it
does, tells me I'm not connected to wifi (I am connected).

It just ain't worth it persevering with.
I guess not if you're too stupid to figure out how to use a
smartphone properly
Properly, what does that mean?
it means I didn't want to risk upsetting him by him possibly
inferring that I was suggesting he couldn't use it at all.. :)
So that was a joke?
no. just what I said. he does tend to get upset easily at times

Properly, what does that mean? When we got Rover I said we'll use about
5% of what it can do and I believe that is true of the average person
with most programs or their smart phone apps. OK all these things are
useful but aren't life defining.
True, I don't use anywhere near the full functionality of my iPhone. My
usage of the various features is expanding over time. These days I use
calls, texts, camera, notepad, GPS, Google maps, white pages and a few
others.

The problem is it's too dumbed down and restricting for me, it's not a
case of being stupid. I'm not stupid enough to be satisfied with it.
Even if I persevered with it and got it to work for me I'd still be
unhappy with it. Too many hoops to jump through just to do the most
basic task. I'll stick to a laptop.

Why bother? on the fire ground I'll put it in two condoms to be sure to be
sure. Actually it should be OK from their claimed immersion data.

BTW it isn't a myth using a condom to keep your rifle barrel clean however
if you forget to take it off it makes a mess that you need to clean. Not

Depends on whether it's using data or the FM radio signal direct. Most
smartphones have an FM receiver chip built in, it's the same one that is
used for Wifi and Bluetooth. My previous smartphones needed the
headphones plugged in as a pseudo antenna. iPhones have the FM chip too
but it's deactivated. That's because Apple, and most smartphone service
providers, are pushing music streaming services. The original Samsung
Galaxy phones had the FM service enabled but this changed with the
introduction of the Galaxy S4.

Should have overcome your prejudices and bought an iPad.

And I'm already thinking of selling the Motorola smart phone I bought
last weekend as the goddamned 'keyboard' is just too small for me to
use. I don't even have big hands or fingers, I'm fucked if I know how
people can type on them without having to backspace/correct every
second character.
Practice makes perfect. Good eyesight helps! ;-)

Pity it's apple only.

it'll help much anyway when I've already fucked up the second

listen to music.

I did actually buy an external battery for the phone and tablet but
I'll certainly use their power points.

It fixes the problem anyway. And goes much further than that too,
so that you don't have to type more than a couple of characters
for the longer words to have it auto complete too.

Well you might be able to run Windows under emulation:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459153

XP would probably be too great a load on the poor little
emulated PC, Win98 might be better. Then there's Linux -
which I know a lot about running on low spec. systems.

No idea whether the PC emulator provides a method for the
Operating System to use the network interface/s. That would
be the first issue to check out.

It's an interesting idea, for sure. I doubt I'll find the time to get
into all that before my trip though.

Ah the good old days when they had different divisions so you had the big
Jag or whatever coming up on the Mini Cooper. There is some European sports
car comp, which I watched with my brother in law, where they had 2 different
divisions in the same race. Made it very interesting.

I used to be fairly interested in motorsport but it's too clinical and
homogenised these days.

incentive to spend time and money developing applications for it.

Yes, true. On the scheme of things, Usenet doesnt even rate.
