Aha! So my cunning planned worked! I was trying to distract you all
from the rumours that I may be the Bristol Grammar Vigilante
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/04/03/revealed-self-styled-grammar-vigilante-corrects-badly-punctuated/
and thought a profligate overuse of apostrophes would do the trick.

Now, about my ties to Russia: I was going to order a short missile
raid on Syria as a diversionary tactic but I gather that's already
been tried by somebody else.

I noticed that he who claims to be so keen on correct use of English
grammar was not averse (like most people these days, BUT NOT ME) to
using "there's" before a plural.

(And I don't suppose I'll ever stop shouting "as if" at the rayjo/tv
when someone uses "like" incorrectly.)

Depends, dunnit?

There's plenty of food on the table. (Singular.)
Ther're (1) plenty of apples on the tree. (Plural).

(1) I typed "There're" first and my spill chucker didn't like it. It's
happy with "Ther're" but I'm not sure that I am.

Surely plenty of food isn't singular but plural-uncountable?

Go with "There am plenty of apples." You know it makes sense.

You're correct, Jenny - the catastrophe takes the place of the 'a' in

Very funny piece on Toady the other morning about how the Royal
Marines accidentally invaded Spain and had to confess to the head of
the RN. He said that the Army & RAF chiefs had sent him a postcard,
ribbing him about it, with suitable annotations to show which beach
was "ours" and which "theirs".

Heheheh. My preferred solution would be to give the Falkland Islands
(back[1])to Spain on condition that they withdraw their claim on
Gibraltar. But don't tell Argentina I said that, okay?

Nick
[1]IIUIC it's because Spain thought they owned Las Malvinas in the
first place which gives Argentina the basis of their claim but
whichever way you look at it, it's a long story.

I didn't know about the Archers alcohol company/name, but regardless,

"Fairbrother['s] Gin" sounds more interesting than "Archer['s] Gin". Not
sure why.

Ooh, good stir! (Do we know how that paying-back is going? Almost
certainly not, given the team's attitude to accuracy on financial
matters. Did we ever even hear of any formal schedule-type aspect to it
- so much a month or whatever - or was it just "when you can" [something
I'd never enter into even with a closest friend/relative; when the other
way round, i. e. my Dad/parents lent _me_ money, _I_ formalised at least
the interest aspect.]?)

Hollowtree Gin. Should use the same branding as the geese. Name is
already established and we all know the power of the right brand name.

I have a vague feeling it may have had something to do with the Pegasus
email client software. I don't usually add people's email addresses to
my quotes file these days, but I have been assuming that that one was so
long dead that bots can harvest it if they want without any
inconvenience to you (-:, so haven't removed it from the file.

(The "via" suggests you were quoting someone else, but I didn't know

FWIW I've been using my unmunged themusicworkshop address on usenet
since late 2012 and I'm still waiting for the spam to arrive. That
either means the spam filters on Plusnet are working well - in which
case Penny need not worry too much either - or spammers can't see any
value in harvesting email addresses from usenet these days. Sadly, I
suspect it is the latter.

I do get a little, but not enough to be a problem. Agent filters
many of them, and Kaspersky spots a few more, though I always
check for false positives. The only stuff I will never actually
see is those with invalid prefixes for my domain.

There has been a change in the nature of spam emails recently,
many of which are now trying to convince me that I have won some
coupons or gift cards. I have no idea what their angle is.

Likewise - and it may be Kenton will let it slip in someone's hearing and
it'll get back to David (of course we also have Toby telling Pip who will
definitely soon start squeaking). So,Tobes doesn't want to work any longer
than a strict number of hours when it suits? What with Rex being equally

Yer mutliply percentage by 1.75 to get degrees. But degrees haven't
been used in the UK since the early 80s, it is now percentage by volume.
