Harry Truman was arguably one of the most impressive presidents in the
history of the United States. In retrospect, I regret not supporting
him in the '48 election or the '52 primary. He was a bright, wise man
with more than his share of common sense.

Below is an excerpt from a speech Truman delivered, 13 October 1948 in
St. Paul Minnesota.

"Well, I have been studying the Republican Party for over 12 years at
close hand in the Capital of the United States. And by this time, I
have discovered where the Republicans stand on most of the major
issues.

Since they won't tell you themselves, I am going to tell you.

They approve of the American farmer-but they are willing to help him
go broke.

They stand four-square for the American home--but not for housing.

They are strong for labor--but they are stronger for restricting
labor's rights.

They favor a minimum wage--the smaller the minimum the better.

They indorse educational opportunity for all--but they won't spend
money for teachers or for schools.

They think modern medical care and hospitals are fine--for people who
can afford them.

They approve of social security benefits-so much so that they took
them away from almost a million people.

They believe in international trade--so much so that they crippled our
reciprocal trade program, and killed our International Wheat
Agreement.

They favor the admission of displaced persons--but only within
shameful racial and religious limitations.

They consider electric power a great blessing-but only when the
private power companies get their rake-off.

They say TVA is wonderful--but we ought never to try it again.

They condemn "cruelly high prices"--but fight to the death every
effort to bring them down.

They think the American standard of living is a fine thing--so long as
it doesn't spread to all the people.

And they admire the Government of the United States so much that they
would like to buy it.

Thanks for exposing yourself as the total partisan you are, just
as I suspected. Now it's crystal clear why you won't tolerate any
criticism of a Democrat. You howl that it's a diversion whenever
anyone cites what the Clintons have been up to. Yet here you are
attacking Republicans in general, and dragging up Truman! That's OK?
So much for your objectivity, you've been fully exposed as a Democrat
hack. If it was Hillary in office instead of Trump, you'd be
fully on board team Democrat, defending her, no matter what she did.

LOL

For the past few days you have been behaving like a little Chihuahua
dog, one who barks incessantly while repeatedly sticking his face in a
spinning fan.

It is almost as if you are extremely constipated or suffering from
Tourette's. You should consider a getting a medical evaluation.

As for your opinion about my political alignment, or lack there-of, I
really couldn't care less. You are making assumptions and, everyone
knows what happens when you "ass-u-me".

Additionally, if you have not yet learned to appreciate and learn from
the insights and perspectives of historical giants like Truman,
Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Eisenhower, Jefferson, Adams, Washington,
etc, if you have not learned, I would urge you to read more history
and pontificate less.

Lastly, you would benefit greatly by reviewing the past several days
of your own posts, if you are honest and objective with yourself,
you will see that your behavior has been, at best, concerning, at
worst, pathological.

As if you're not one of the biggest pontificators here. One that
only pontificates *against* Republicans and bitches like hell when
anyone dares to bring up a Democrat that has acted badly.
DIVERSION! RABBIT HOLE! YOU CAN'T DO THAT! Nuff said.

ROFL. Whatever I am, I criticize bad behavior from both parties.
You're a partisan hack who just proved it beyond a doubt with this
thread. Thanks for proving who you really are, hypocrite.

Ahhh yes, shouting is always a good approach. When one of my
daughters was a young teenager, she was prone to such histrionics too.

Didn't produce much in the way of positive results for her, either.

Oh my word, you are calling me insulting names. However will I
survive? No one has ever insulted me....... snigger.

But seriously Trader, you are all over the board these days, if you
aren't ill, then you should learn how to present a cogent and pithy
argument, which includes staying on topic.

Ain't that special coming from the lefty lib that's started just as
many, if not more, OT threads here as I have. And an especially rich
complaint from the guy that just started this thread about Harry Truman
and how bad Republicans are, because Harry said so. Maybe if Harry
was half as great as you think he is, he wouldn't have handed over
all of Eastern Europe into slavery by those Russians. Russians?
Wow, Truman sells out Eastern Europe into slavery, that's cool, no
Russian issues there, right? But excuse me, I've dared to present
some fact, but it's not allowed here according to your rules when the
facts aren't positive for your team, team DEMOCRAT. You're just like
what you accuse the Republicans of, for you it's all hail Team Democrat!

Sorry Greg, I am not about to visit your personal web site.

As for Truman, yes he was profane and prone to off color, racist
comments and jokes. I was guilty of the same thing in that era, and I
am not proud of it.

However, Truman had a profound sense of right and wrong and did more
for African Americans than any president since Lincoln, when, in 1946
he created the civil rights commission and then in 1948, when he
desegregated the military. Both actions were very unpopular with most
whites, but, in retrospect, they were the correct and moral things to
do, a sign of true greatness in a president.

Jimmy Carter was in the news recently - having had a health scare
while working on a Habitat For Humanity build in Winnipeg -
at the age of 92 ..

JC was not one of our better presidents, however, his post political
activities have demonstrated his worth as a man.

Also, the past six months have served to elevate his ranking as a
president, significantly.
