I agree that SK would probably still be imaging on film; per Tarantino, Nolan and PT Anderson. Also liked the top comment on Storaro's amazing digital work on "Cafe Society", which employed his 2:1 aspect ratio, ultra sharp Cooke primes and extensive work in Flame (VFX) for staggering colour and luminosity.

The short BFI video was also quite good. I was literally hypnotized by the BL "A" camera, and that I could actually inspect it at a microscopic level.

We are in a time when the younger people are oblivious to some of the greatest older movies. I keep seeing the trailer for the stupid Ben Hur. To me, this is utterly absurd, It looks terrible and the images looks brown. Sorry but the Wyler Ben Hur could not be improved upon. It is arguably the greatest movie ever made. It's look is fantastic in every way. Now they have this ugly piece of crap. I haven't looked to see what camera they used. It's a travesty to the universe. Now that I said that I'll have to look at what camera it was done with.

It also infuriates me that supposedly Speilberg is considering a remake of West Side Story. I hope that doesn't happen. It can't be improved upon. I wouldn't mind films being converted to 360 degree VR, but remakes of the greatest films would be like some hipster repainting over the Sistine Ceiling and turning it into "modern art."

I haven't seen Cafe Society, but It looks pretty. . Digital can look good, for certain things and very versatile, but far from real film.

As I said in one of my comments on the dpreview post, I bet Kubrick would have been curious to play with the recent Sony a7sll, full frame, to test it's ridiculously, incredble low light ability that shatters all ISOs.
