We discovered what the the poison was and we now know how to mitigate it's
effects.

Russian former spy Sergei Skripal is no longer in a critical condition after
being poisoned by a nerve agent, doctors have said.
Salisbury District Hospital said Mr Skripal is responding well to treatment
and "improving rapidly".
Mr Skripal, 66, and his daughter Yulia, 33, have been in hospital for more
than a month after being found unconscious on a bench in Salisbury.
They had been poisoned with a toxic nerve agent called Novichok.
Ms Skripal is conscious and talking in hospital.
The UK government claims Russia is behind the attack but Moscow has denied
all involvement, calling the accusations "horrific and unsubstantiated".

It is strange that no other people suffered as badly as the Skripals.

But here we have a crucial development. It's now increasingly likely that these two will survive to recollect what happened in the hours leading up them being found in a near fatal state on a bench in Salisbury. Vital evidence! Time is not gong to be on the Ruskies' side.

It's one thing to overwhelm medical facilities by spraying a large population. It's quite another to target individuals who c.n be transported to a modern medical facility relatively quickly.

They weren't intended to survive but they did didn't they Mr Putin and almost certainly when they are well enough they are going to talk.

I doubt whether there will be any attempt to repeat this stunt in the UK again or possibly anywhere else. this incident has cost the Russian government dear.

It's now imperative that they are not let off the hook too lightly.

Yes. Even if the Russian government was not directly responsible, they should learn some important lessons. Their attitude to this despicable act has been particularly poor and bizarre. Even if the attack was from a sort of 'offshoot' of the government/KGB there is no doubt the Russian government should have wanted to get to the bottom of it. However in this respect I do not understand our government's lack of willingness to accept the Russian government's request to speak with the victims...it's not as if even the Russians expected us to allow them to be spoken to without our presence! If we do want a more responsible approach from Russia, which we do, then why shun that request?

My feeling is that this attack was not directly from the centre of the Russian government, but more likely from a peripheral/tangental outfit. However, as you say, the Russian government should not be let off the hook so lightly....they have demonstrated an immature and despicable response.
