Discussion:
Sponsoring the underside of the cars? (flippant)

Re Pascal Wehrlein in Monaco and Scott Dixon in the Indy 500 both being flipped over;

When boxer Julius Francis fought Mike Tyson, he deliberately had the soles of his boots sponsored - so that when he inevitably got knocked down the crowd would see the sponsor!

They miss that trick in motorsport - the cars are completely blank underneath.

Then again who would sponsor a flipped car?

Somehow a driver never has this written underneath;

"To my ex-wife : Does this count as your own back?"

(Initially I used to mishear `Jabroc plank' as `Jabberwock plank' - and thought it was about that weird movie creature being made of wood or shown in old forests etc - the way it existed in the modern world in the movie - an old bit of wood attached to a hi tech car!)

The AA, roadside recovery?

Car insurance?

I guess "bottoms up" from a drinks company would be in bad taste.

Movie? I'm sure I remember reading a poem about the Jabberwocky as a kid -
actually I still have a book of poetry that my grandmother gave me when I
was in primary school where I first read it - hang on....

Yep, the book was a Christmas present from 1968. Poem by Lewis Carrol;

'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves
And the mome raths outgrabe.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"

etc.

Jabberwocky was originally a Lewis Carrol poem about a dragon type thing, but a 1977 movie was then based on it.

It has been quite a few years since I saw the film (it has a St George And The Dragon theme - it keeps threatening a village and brave men are picked to confront it - who keep failing).

Michael Palin is the village idiot who somehow manages to accidentally kill it when a knight in armour is deliberately trying to at the same time too - or I think the knight kills it but via a mix up the village idiot Palin is then celebrated in the village as the hero - it has been a while though.

It was certainly portrayed as a dragon in the movie you mention but in the
original poem all that is said of it is that its jaws bite, its claws catch
and it has eyes of flame. It is killed by a boy who then able to carry its
decapitated head.

I also vaguely remember it. T'was a Terry Gilliam movie IIRC made in the
'Monty Python style'. I watched it because of the Monty Python connections
but was very dissapointed (as I was with most later Gilliam movies).

IMO Chapman Cleese and Idle were the real talents behind MP yet latterly
Gilliam Palin and Jones continued trying to cash in on their previous
association with the real talent - and mostly failed (at least when it came
to humour).

The arse end of Minardi and Jordan cars used to get a lot of coverage years ago.
Their sponsors must have been happy. Backmarkers today seem to be ignored.
