Very excited that tomorrow I am to be presented to HRH the Princess Royal.
Tried to be casual and cool but find I am not. So busy with the event, I
don't think I have time to do my hair. I have a hat but as I will be
wearing a T Shirt & trousers feel I might look comical.
I am sure she has met people without a hat before.
Yes, I've seen her at international rugby matches not wearing a hat.
I trust umrats realise I am not at all serious re the hat!!!!! If I want
to look ridiculous, I may reconsider., however
Something more understated perhaps.
How about a placard warning of Brian's dalliances with the Irish lass?
Been there, done that .... as of course you know. I didn't have a hat then
either.
Back to normal today and ready to finalise the finances of this event. The
Chairman wanted to it to make no profit but to cover all costs. I would
have preferred a target that included a small profit to allow for slippage.
It is important to recognise those that who attend already give time and
most of us some money to the RDA one way or another. The ticket prices are
calculated to meet costs but not exceed them. The conference is
educational and to some extent social but it isn't a jolly, subsidised by
funds raised for the benefit of our riders. I think we are pretty well
spot on. This element is especially gratifying.
One mildly amusing anecdote; we were on the third floor of a grandstand.
The stairs up to it were many more than most second floor buildings.
However, if HRH used the lift like most of us, we had to pay over £600 to
have a lift mechanic on duty in case it broke down. I was told HRH would
be incensed if we did this and she leaves most folk standing when it comes
to stairs and the like. I took the stairs once; huff, puff,
sigh.........clearly not made of the same stuff.
