"Whoa! What's the rationale?"
I can understand banning diesel - that is a pollution problem, but all
petroleum fuels? LPG and CNG are a lot cleaner.
Blindly banning is never a good idea.
For many years the one and only problem according our -government- was CO2.
Diesel typically produce the lowest CO2 emissions per km!
I don't know about other European countries beside Netherlands but here our
government made insane regulations about emissions and all car companies perfectly
fulfill their requirements by changing every engine setting as soon a the test procedure
is done. Perfectly legal here, no kidding!
Now that VW is exposed in the US suddenly Europe is in shock and all Diesels
should be banned!
Diesels can be made "clean" and there even are a few models which are "clean"
as we speak, funny thing there is even a clean VW.
Banning Diesel immediately rules out other heat engines that can be made which
don't have any NOx problem.
