Nick Clegg has used the time since he lost his seat as an MP to write a
book on how the UK can still stay in the EU - and today he has been
doing the rounds to promote it.

And I happened to have a little drive out to an aquarium shop in the
country this morning so happened upon him on a Radio 2 phone in.

His latest wheeze? He claims that the leave campaign made "pledges" and
and that everything that it, like the £350 million on the bus, was a
"promise" so if they are not all met by October next year, we should
simply have another referendum that this time tells the truth that
Brexit would be a disaster.

One chap on the phone asked if this was in future going to apply to all
votes. He asked if a government does not enact exactly what they put in
their manifesto, are we going to start calling snap elections left,
right and centre? To which of course Clegg said that we get to choose to
chuck people out every 5 years.

Yes, Mr Clegg - and last election you lost your seat!

He was also confronted by someone who suggested that the Lib Dems should
have stood down when they went back on their university fees promise, to
which he answered that the Lib Dems were not actually in government so
had no option on that.

Except of course the Lib Dems *were* in government.

And this is unlike the leave campaign, which wasn't.

Perhaps Mr Clegg has forgotten that he personally misrepresented what
Remain would mean - e.g. that an EU army was "a dangerous fantasy".

There is a case to vote again on the EU some time (e.g. 5 years) after
we have left, if there is public support for another referendum. But
there is no case whatsoever for preventing the decision of the people
being obeyed before it is even effected.

Remember that Nick Clegg said at the end of 2015 that some would fail to
accept the result of the referendum "while the rest of us get on with
our lives". Since he lost, he has done little else than campaign against
it. Total hypocrite.

Yes, that is my view too.

That reminds me of another of Clegg's hypocrisies. Before the referendum
he said it was a once-in-a-generation vote. Now he is going round saying
that we should all be able to change our minds. He has a rather uneasy
relationship with the concept of integrity.

Turns out he was on The Daily Politics too, where he had a slightly
harder time than he did on the radio.

He was put on the spot over something in the past - I forget what - and
said "we should look forward not back" to avoid the issue.

Then, he started his "if the deal does not include all the stuff
promised by the Leave campaign we should have another referendum" and
the other guest, a leaver named Tim Montgomerie, almost bounced in his
seat as he called Clegg out on his hypocrisy.

Cleggy though, just steamed on.

Given his recent logic, presumably if he had won he would now be arguing
for another vote on leaving....
He was on DP this lunchtime debating his case with Tim Montgomery.

He kept on telling Tim not to refer back to what Remain had said at the
referendum whilst making his points (I think he said "don't go back over
history") and then when it was Cleggy's turn he kept on referring back to
what Leave had said to justify his points. Tim called him out on this.

He was unapologetic

It's alarming that such a duplicitous person and his ilk ever got
ministerial power.
