Nick Clegg has used the time since he lost his seat as an MP to write a
book on how the UK can still stay in the EU - and today he has been
doing the rounds to promote it.
And I happened to have a little drive out to an aquarium shop in the
country this morning so happened upon him on a Radio 2 phone in.
His latest wheeze? He claims that the leave campaign made "pledges" and
and that everything that it, like the £350 million on the bus, was a
"promise" so if they are not all met by October next year, we should
simply have another referendum that this time tells the truth that
Brexit would be a disaster.
One chap on the phone asked if this was in future going to apply to all
votes. He asked if a government does not enact exactly what they put in
their manifesto, are we going to start calling snap elections left,
right and centre? To which of course Clegg said that we get to choose to
chuck people out every 5 years.
Yes, Mr Clegg - and last election you lost your seat!
He was also confronted by someone who suggested that the Lib Dems should
have stood down when they went back on their university fees promise, to
which he answered that the Lib Dems were not actually in government so
had no option on that.
Except of course the Lib Dems *were* in government.
And this is unlike the leave campaign, which wasn't.
