Bill to allow Briarwood Presbyterian to have police force advances

http://www.al.com/news/birmingham/index.ssf/2017/04/bill_to_allow_briarwood_presby.html

A bill to allow Briarwood Presbyterian Church to have a police force
won approval this morning in an Alabama House committee.

The Public Safety committee approved the bill by Sen. Jabo Waggoner,
R-Vestavia Hills, sending it to the House, which could give it final
passage.

The officers would have to complete state certified training by the
Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission. They would have the
same powers as all police officers but those powers would be
restricted to Briarwood properties.

I think other churches call them "elders".

What the fuck does a church need a police force for?

My first question as well.

"Briarwood's campuses are the church and Birmingham Theological
Seminary off Acton Road at Interstate 459 and the Briarwood Christian
School on Cahaba Valley Road."

Are they protecting the students from a threat coming from outside,
now the war on Christianity is raging, or are they policing their own
students.

Probably the latter. I assume that ordinary police
could enforce laws on private property, but they
probably won't patrol it.

Large colleges are liable to have staff to deal
with student misbehaviour. And what theocratic
nation doesn't have religion police?
