Is it really so long since Hesky harassed train operators?

Shirley it was Chankel who harassed train operators? Hesky floated
about in balloons, did he not?

It was Chankel, not Heskey, wot harassed train operators.

Heskey was the first Umrat I met, in a pub in Keynsham (spelt K-E-Y-N
S-H-A-M) Keynsham in about 1997 or so. He was an all-round nice guy and
was responsible for the UMRA mugs, of which I still have mine.

I'm delighted to see the proper protocol being observed, Rosie.

Horace Batchelor died over 40 years ago, and so many of us *still* do
that as a reflex. It's immortality of a sort, I suppose - that and
joining the Zebra Kid on percussion, of course.

Gosh, yes. I had a university friend who lived there and found it deeply
irritating that everyone spelled it out.

Red?
Nooo. My Gran was very Victorian and respectable.

Sort of old gold with lots of the finish rubbed off.

Not Statue of Liberty, since I think there was rather less clothing
involved. Very French.[1]

[1] Yes. I know the S of L _was_ French, but this looked rather more
Gay Paree than New York Harbour.

Radio Luxembourg and he was more than a
little surprised to find that I knew all about it, and even where to find it.
Tune the school radio to 200 and hit firmly with the Complete Works of
Shakespeare which was kept on the shelf above.

Irritatingly, it got retuned to the Home Service every night so we could hear
the 8am news headlines over breakfast. And stand for the National Anthem
on royal anniversaries

The tutorials for my OU Romantic Poetry course were held in a downstairs
room at the LSE, which was very stuffy and the window wouldn't stay
open. I knew there was a use for The Prelude after all.

I think it would be nice to have one of those nice wooden boards with
a list of names of past umrats and their dates. We could keep it in
the chocolate locker. Or maybe in the snug in The Bull.

I once had a minimally addressed birthday card from my SiL* arrive late
having travelled from Whitstable via Newcastle and Tredegar before finally
arriving in Bredgar, Kent.

Heskey chauffeured me to my first BBQ. He also used to chase eclipses
around the world.

garden chairs
jumper
beer

Birthday News for today, 4 June: Karen Barford and Peter Hesketh RIP
(last post 08/00).
Is it really so long since Hesky harassed train operators?
It's only a small glass of lager, but I shall imbibe in his memory.
It was Chankle who harassed the rail co. Charles Hankle lived in or on the
Wirral or Pudlian are; Heskey was unpronounceable in Wales. RIP both of
course, much missed.
Unpronounceable?
I once had a minimally addressed birthday card from my SiL* arrive late
having travelled from Whitstable via Newcastle and Tredegar before finally
arriving in Bredgar, Kent.
Heskey chauffeured me to my first BBQ. He also used to chase eclipses
around the world.
*She never did get the hang of post codes.
I’d forgotten about the eclipse chasing. I must look at the photos I took
at Hesky’s funeral to see where we were in Wales. Michelle took me.

Sincerely Chris

I realised after sending it, my apparently unrelated story may have been a
bit cryptic. I believe Heskey lived in Tredegar (I still can't figure out
why the woman on the regional news pronounces it as if it were spelt
Tredigar) but it may have been in a nearby village.

I'm pretty sure it was further east. Wolves Newton or Shirenewton or
somewhere around there.[1]

Wolves Newton is renowned, in our house, as a place which does not exist.
We spotted the road sign announcing our imminent arrival there -
followed some time later by the (back of the) road sign announcing our
departure from that place - without actually encountering Wolves Newton
in any way shape or form.

Brigadoon is an imposter.

Hindringham in Norfolk is known to my daughter and I as Brigadoon
because we became convinced, the first time we tried to go there, that
it must exist only occasionally.

My photos were scanned ones, I didn’t label them on my Flickr feed.
