Misplayed Brexit hands #1: German industry

Why don't we still hear from people about how German industry,
particularly cars, is so dependent on sales to the UK that Merkel jolly
well better give us a good Brexit deal.
Whatever happened to that? :)

Repeatedly saying the same thing as per a broken record is a Remoan trait.

A bit like a once in a lifetime referendum, this no need to repeat the
exercise in the hope of a changed result.

An aside to comment about EU/US trade wars I think. It is a fact
that doesn't go away.

It was a delusion that this gave us so much leverage that it assured a
settlement strongly in our favour. Ha ha.

Many mistakenly thought the EU (specifically Germany) needed us more
than we needed them. Now how crazy is that? Very crazy. Yet
Brexiteers deluded themselves about it.

In a hard Brexit tariffs would mean BMW, Audi and Mercedes would lose sales to the UK, but would replace these with more sales within the EU lost by Jaguar etc. by the same coin. Both lose of course, but the Brits far more proportionately as the Germans lose sales to one country with 60M people, whereas the Brits loses sales to 28 countries with >500M people.

The Germans would also reduce investment in car plants in the UK (e.g. Mini) or even move production into the EU.

sales to one country with 60M people, whereas the Brits loses
sales to 28 countries with >500M people.
The Germans would also reduce investment in car plants in the UK
(e.g. Mini) or even move production into the EU.

The real issue is that Brexiteers repeatedly failed to predict that the
EU27 were willing to absorb whatever it took in order to show no
country is better off outside the EU than in it.

Brexiteers thought they had those pesky EU27 nailed. When Brexiteers
opened their eyes, they saw they had been nailed. Wakey wakey!
