Post by MaryPost by max.itPost by MaryPost by max.itPost by MaryPost by max.itPost by MaryI wanted to see if this got posted. I haven't seen any posts on any of the
newsgroups I usually check for the last 3 days.
Is this the end?

I've been sick, but lurking on the ng. It's a bit slow.
Not just slow in my case - but non existent for the past few days on the
several active groups I still check.
I hope you soon recover from your illness. Spring will soon be here :<)
Mary
Spring has hit Co Armagh already, the tits are collecting nesting
stuff, and the song birds are making a racket and courting. This is
the tough time for the birds, the food stores are gone and the new
source of food is only just beginning.
Birds always seem to manage to get food somewhere and start new generations.
I've never been to Ireland. Where is Co Armagh? My grandfather (mother's
father) was born in Ballymena, N. Ireland and moved to Scotland as a young
man and married my Scottish grandmother. I never knew him as he died before
I was born. He was our only relative not born in Scotland. My mother and
father's side were Scottish and went back many generations to the 1700's and
probably beyond. My father was born in Argyll. I did some genealogy a while
ago to see how far back my Irish grandfather's ancestry went in Ireland, and
found out the name of his mother and father, both born in Ballymena but
that's as far as I got.
Armagh is a border county (uk side), the orange county, the orchard of
Ireland. It is where the orange order was formed, and for good measure
orange is also the county colour for gaelic games and other not so uk
activities.> Ballymena is the big Presbyterian stronghold, they speak with
a kind
of Scottish accent. Anywhere in the north east of Ireland is just like
Scotland.
I can believe that. Many people from North east Ireland came from Scotland
during the Highland Clearances according to history. I suspect the ancestors
of my Irish grandfather could have migrated to N. Ireland from Scotland a
long time ago and still be in Ireland. My grandfathers last name was quite a
common Scottish name and his mother's name is not that common in Scotland
but originally said to come from Strathclyde,Glasgow and Renfrewshire areas
but their ancestors could have lived in Ireland for many years many years
ago. I only know about my grandfather and his parents that they were all
born in N. Ireland.
Post by max.itPost by MaryIn Toronto, spring won't be here for a while. Feb. is always a cold month
but this year, its been freezing every day and only one more day to go
before Feb. ends. Maybe it will be spring after that. In the summer here,
its very hot, so I don't mind the winter though it gets tedious. Not a lot
of snow so far, but extremely cold winds.
I always remember February being cold and horrible, but spring is
arriving earlier, and it only takes a bit of sunshine to get the
insects and birds going, and the wives with their grand plans for the
garden that they expect the cripple to accomplish ;) As a new over 50
year old customer I get 10% discount from the diy store - they are
trying to kill me!!
haha.Surely you are not a cripple. If you are just 50 you should still be in
good shape to get your garden planted with spring flowers and after that,
plant summer flowers.
We are supposed to be getting better weather next week.Hopefully we will get
out of the deep freeze. It has been the coldest winter for many years. the
sun has been out a lot of days, and makes you think its warm outside till
you go out.
I'm a cripple, heavy engineering and motorcycles and no sense for a
long time made sure of that I got plenty of knocks and broken
things. My back and hips are on the way out.
Funny enough just last year I had an accident where I was briefly
exposed to some nasty chemicals in unmarked bottles and one got broke.
I wasn't too worried because I felt pretty fine, but the stuff burnt
my mouth and that was a big red flag.
Doc sat me down and told me this type of exposure usually ends badly
no matter how you feel now, he said within two or three weeks I could
be toast, dead and buried. I'm still kicking, I was frightened for a
bit, but I'm fine now. Never went for a follow up, never told my
family - I reckoned I was gonna have to but I kept on living.
If anything the whole scare has made me more active.

Post by MaryI am trying to guess what diy means. Discount something? We don't usually
get discounts here till we are 60 at the earliest, usually 65.
