Oregon Democratic Sen. Jeff Merkley introduced climate legislation
Thursday to completely phase-out fossil fuels.
Called the "100 by 50 Act," it aims to run 100 percent of the country
on clean and renewable energy by 2050.
I'm all for it!
You are as silly as the protestors that block oil exploration rigs
with their plastic kayacks.

Portland General Electric
hydro = 16%
(and the liberals want to tear down more Snake River dams!)
wind and solar = 11%
coal = 22%
natural gas = 25%
purchased power (guess how that's made???) = 26%

<irrelavant data snipped - how we get energy now is not relavant to how
we will get it in 2050>

-----------
Germany's renewable energy sector is among the most innovative and
successful worldwide.[citation needed] Net-generation from renewable
energy sources in the German electricity sector has increased from 6.3%
in 2000 to about 34% in 2016.[1]

On Sunday 15 May 2016 at 14:00 hours, renewables supplied nearly all of
domestic electricity demand.[2]

While peak-generation from combined wind and solar reached a previous
all-time high of 74% in April 2014,[3] wind power saw its best day ever
on December 12, 2014, generating 562 GWh.[4] Germany has been called "the
world's first major renewable energy economy".[5][6]

BP has the largest operated renewable energy business of any major
international oil and gas company. In the United States, its renewable
assets include 14 onshore wind farms located everywhere from the Hawaiian
island of Maui to the green hills of northeast Pennsylvania. The
company’s U.S. wind farms have a gross generating capacity of 2,259
megawatts. That’s enough electricity to power all the homes in a city the
size of Philadelphia.

Portland, Multnomah County, and Oregon have been run by
progressive, liberal, Democrats for over 30 years.
If renewable energy is so great, why have you not already
fully done it??

The answer is obvious, because it is outlandisly expensive
(both initial and ongoing real costs) and poor & old people
dying from hyperthermia is very bad public relations.

The technology did not exist thirty years ago. Nor were the dangers of
global-warming/climate change fully appreciated.

Doing nothing is likely to be many times more expensive. It does, after
all, propose a 30 year phase in period.

Global warming is more likely to lead to that result. Mankind has
existed for millennia without air conditioning,

But then, the climate was cooler then.
