government, and how many years Broon was PM?

Are you saying MIRAS has been reinstated? And there is a married man's
allowance?

There's me thinking that married me were taxed even more by the Tories
in the Child Benefit clawback, employing a few thousand extra civil
servants. As if we didn't have enough!

Why would I have to be saying that?

word "they" was inserted after the inital "And".

Labour clearly didn't retain the previous tax allowances. They abolished
them.

I doubt that the Treasury feels that these tax-relief measures can be
reinstated at present given the state's post-2008 indebtedness, but I
don't believe that MIRAS will ever be reinstated.

The Child Benefit business was a hopeless mistake that should never have
happened. I don't earn enough to have been affected by it but I still
recognise that CHB was a repl;acement for two things, a tax allowance
and a universal social security payment. Neither of them was
means-tested and there is no good reason why anyone should be denied CHB
on the basis of their income.

It's rather like clawing back Retirement Pension based on the level of
other income - ie, there's no justification for it.
