What Did You Watch? 2018-02-12 (Monday)

I watched:

THE SAME SKY: Episode #1 of this German spy thriller set in the mid
1970s across the Berlin Wall. The theory here is that men from the East
are being trained in how to seduce lonely middle aged women that are in
positions where they know government secrets. There is also a side plot
where the little sister from the East is training for the Olympics...so,
timely.

WEDDING UNPLANNED: A 2017 romcom with the standard plot where some guy
is engaged to be married, but not to the woman he is falling in love
with. Most of this was just typical dippy romcom humor about awkward
situations, but then mixed into it was some weird stuff (like the murder
of a dog) and some amazingly stupid stuff (like locating a aged fine
wine collection in a sunny room with no cooling). Ah well, it is a
French film, so what do you expect.

I tried to watch the new MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS but couldn't
understand enough of the fake accents dialog to last.

I was just trying to keep up with the subtitles. I decided it was too

I was just trying to keep up with the subtitles. I decided it was too

Legends of Tomorrow - "Daddy Darhkest" - Constantine shows up to help
the legends perform an exorcism. OK episode.


911 - "Heartbreaker" - Valentines day episode. Angela Bassett (who is
by far the best thing about the show and the only reason I'm still
watching) faces off against a woman with a let's say unique plan to deal
with her cheating boyfriend. Meanwhile a character who had a metal rod
go straight through his skull/brain is back as if nothing happened.
They are really trying to get me to dump this show!


The Chi - "Today Was a Good Day" - The regulars throw a block party
where the old gang leader or whatever he is, reassembles his crew and
faces off against the up and coming gangsters. I *really* want to know
what he whispered in the guy's ear. Just slightly above background noise.


Bit and pieces of several other shows including "Here and Now" a new HBO
show that I watched about 1/3 of before deleting.

Thanks! Unfortunately while it has the scene, it doesn't include any
dialogue from the whisper. I guess it's possible the writers don't even
know what was said. Just leave it up to the audience's imagination.

What did you watch?

Victoria (recorded) - "The King Over the Water" (ep. #2.7 - the title
refers to the King of the Scots, I believe). I actually mostly liked
this episode, mostly because whatever offenses were committed against
the actual history here are generally minor(!).
We begin when someone (the historical person in this case was a man
named John Francis) points a gun a the royal couple while on a carriage
ride in London but escapes. Victoria demands that they repeat the same
route the next day to catch the perp (Prince Albert is appalled by
this), and it works! (This is historically accurate!)
Afterwards, to recuperate, Victoria and Albert "away" to Scotland,
to the castle of a Duke Atholl(? played by Denis Lawson).
Here, the timeline gets muddled - Francis' "assassination attempts"
took place in 1842. Victoria apparently first visited Scotland in 1842.
So far so good. However, Victoria didn't visit Blair Castle, Duke
Atholl's place, until 1844. The latter date fits in better with where
the show is currently, plotwise, but doesn't fit in with Francis
"shooting attempt". Ah, well...
(FTR, Albert would buy Balmoral Castle in Scotland for the Queen in
1847-48 - and I believe it is still in the hands of the Royal Family...)
Anyway, Victoria loves the escape from responsibility (so does
Albert). Eventually, Victoria and Albert get lost horseriding, and have
to "night" with an old crusty Scottish Highland couple. There are
subplots among the Royal entourage, but they are minor.
So, a mostly decent epie.
It looks like next episode is the season finale (not counting the
subsequent Christmas special...).

Top of the Lake (Hulu) - Episode #1.3. Geezus - a full "network
time-waster" of an episode. This is unacceptable in a series where the
seasons are ONLY 6 EPISODES LONG! The only real development here is
that Robin Griffin (Elisabeth Moss) discovers a video with the missing
girl, Tui, that doesn't exactly reveal the ID of a potential perp, but
provides some clues to their identity. The rest of this episode was a
complete waste of time.

Raduis (The Netflix) - You know, I rather liked this (enough to give it
a 'Thumbs Up' on The Netflix). But I needed a movie to watch last
night, with nothing on, and nothing too severe, and this turned out to
be perfect.
It stars Diego Klattenhoff (from "The Blacklist") as an amnesiac who
appears to kill *anyone or anything! (animals included!)* that comes
within about 50-feet of him (hence the film's title). He eventually
comes across a woman (the delectable Charlotte Sullivan of "Rook.
Bleu"! among other things) who is also an amnesiac, but whom he doesn't
seem to kill when near... I won't say much else, as it would spoil
things.
This was mostly good (though on the slow side for some, I'll wager).
My only real complaint is that they uncork a "twist" at the end that
was completely unnecessary, and in fact didn't really affect the
proceedings in any way, and so should have been cut from the film...
But, aside from that, this was pretty good.

MARY KILLS PEOPLE: Season 2. I found it much better than Season 1. The
adding of Rachelle Lefevre has a real impact on the story. She is
scary. Sometimes I fell like it is sort of DEXTERy.

Yeah, her addition to the show has me rethinking watching this. I think
Hulu has at least season #1 of this show, but I'm not keeping Hulu just
for MKP. I haven't checked the Lifetime app or OnDemand yet...

As the show returned from hiatus, the most important question was
quickly answered: yes, Amaya is still insanely cute. Beyond that, this
one was once again full of crazy fun, but it looks as if Constantine and
Leo will be leaving, which will help an obviously bloated actor payroll.
Because the entire time I was watching things play out, I kept asking
myself, "How can they afford to pay all of these people?"

Grade: B+

I was a little disappointed with it.

They seemed to be trying to accomplish a lot, and that made things crazy
fun in some ways while leading to shortcomings in other areas. I expect
things to slow down somewhat now that they've trimmed the cast a bit.
