Now I have more time I thought I should check that myself and I see that
Hobbs raced in F1 for four seasons (starting in 1967) and didn't score a
single point!

Brundle raced for 12 years, the last year being 1996, finishing on the
podium many times and scoring 98 points. During that time he raced for
several teams including (but not limited to) Benneton, Jordan, Williams,
Tyrell and McLaren and has many friends in the paddock from those days. He
has attended Grands Prix every year from at least 1984 to 2017, 158 of them
as a driver. He was an F1 test driver for Pirelli as late as 2011 and is
occasionally allowed to drive Williams F1 cars.

Hobbs just sits in the studio commentating doesn't he? Brundle is in the
paddock for 4 days of almost every Grand Prix...

Murray Walker never drove a racing car. Hobbs has a far better racing pedigree.

There's been a shift over the years. Sporting commentary on TV is increasingly given to us by those who played the sport at high level.

Murray Walker never drove a racing car. Hobbs has a far better racing pedigree.
There's been a shift over the years. Sporting commentary on TV is
increasingly given to us by those who played the sport at high level.

Murray and Hobbs are both “characters”, and very entertaining ones at that.
Brundle may not attract as much affection but he knows the modern sport
inside out and (unlike some top sportsmen) also has a natural talent for
commentary.

I’ve had the opportunity to watch them both quite regularly. Whilst I much
enjoy Hobbs’s laconic style and sense of humour, Brundle is far more au
fait with modern F1, knows all the drivers and can think fast on his feet.
Fact is they are both good - but different.

highest quality. Certainly it’s the most comprehensive I can remember (and
I’ve been watching F1 since the 1950s).

What folk in Britain object to, in a world where we have been used to
free-to-air coverage, is having to pay for it! That and a generalised
hatred for Rupert Murdoch and all his works.

Whether Brundle beats DC is a partly subjective matter (for me he speaks with more authority and a better turn of phrase), but we got a much better package with the grid walks, the pre and post race analysis (including from Pat Symonds).

The pictures of the racing are the same - FOM world feed, but the overall package is superior.

I'm not sure whether this means fans must now pay (or pay more), but for sure ABC will be paying Sky.

Yes. For some years F1 in the USA has run about 4 races on the NBC
network (free to air) and the rest on NBC Sports (cable) except when EPL
matches filled these in which case the race would be on CNBC (cable,
usually business, channel). In 2018 USA and MEX will be on free-to-air
ABC (plus a rebroadcast of MC) with the rest on cable ESPN and ESPN2.

All of the aforementioned cable channels are generally included in any
cable subscription package above the very basic. None of them is a
premium channel (HBO, etc.).
