hi

my daughter who is in 6th grade has to do a project on ancient Egypt. She is
suppose to bring some food for the class. Can any one give me idea what they
ate back then and if there are any stores I can buy or make some at home?

Teff is a grain used in Ethiopia that was used in Ancient Egypt ( found
in a 3000 bc tomb) before the introduction of wheat from the Asia Minor
area( Babylon/ Persia).
They make a pancake like bread from it.
It is avail;Able in health food stores as it is more vitamin rich
than even whole wheat.

There are a few books on the subject:

Food fit for pharaohs: An ancient Egyptian cookbook, by Michelle
Berriedale-Johnson

Ancient Egypt: Food and Festivals, by Stewart Ross
ISBN 075023234X

You can find these at Barnes & Noble or Amazon

She could take along some ugali http://www.congocookbook.com/c0051.html. I
bet they used some food like that; not from maize-meal, though.

Googling "Ancient Egypt" and "Food" returned 1.14 million hits,
none of which you bothered to read.

http://www.reshafim.org.il/ad/egypt/timelines/topics/food.htm

http://www.ancient-egypt-online.com/ancient-egyptian-food.html

http://www.historyforkids.org/learn/egypt/food/egyptfood.htm

Add "recipes" and that dwindles things down to 210 thousand
hits which, again, you apparently never bothered to read...

(I recommend the date candy in the above. Seems appropriate
for a child whose parent doesn't know how to perform a
simple search on Google)
