Well, I suppose something that has been discussed on national news and
current affairs programmes as well as FT is not stop press topical,
but it sort of current. Adam is having difficulty getting fruit
pickers and had a couple of good ideas about what to do. Mothers with
kids at school, let them work school hours, and then students in the
holidays. I wonder if farmers have tried that or if the SWs will have
given some of them a good idea.

Meanwhile, we knew Toby would get Rex to do the pigs, didn't we, and I
suppose by saying he is the back up assistance he will get some of any
profit. Or will Neil just pay for the work done and own the whole
thing, at least now, and why not in future? Susan would like him to
be a boss who employs a worker. It might reconcile her to not being
able to put a pony in the field, or if the pigs go to Hollowtree I
suppose she can. Will David agree? Will Jill hate it?

I was never clear about which Fairbrother was the footballer. Now I
know it was Rex, so what did Toby do?

It's nice that Helen is up for an award. Tony seemed more depressed
than Brian. What else is wrong for him?

newsgroup that others cannot hope to equal!

Alas, Thunderbird is not much better, I find. I do so regret Turnpike.
It seems to be impossible to read TBird in chronologically arranged
threads. If there's a branching out of the thread - two people answering
and generating new threadlets of their own - then TB can't cope and the
trusty spacebar delivers posts in what appears to be a completely random
order. Turnpike also helpfully marked threads in which you posted as
important and let you read your important threads first. With TB I often
miss replies to my posts. The worst, though, is that unless you click
follow-up when you see something you want to comment on, it is almost
impossible to find it again. TP's proper chronological arrangements were
much easier to work with.

I use NewsTap on my iPad with no problems. I have it set to hide posts once
read, but if I subsequently want to reply to something, I just select “show
read posts”.

We have it on iPad, SODAM. In fact McT paid proper pennies (down Britters)

That's why I went back to Agent when I started reading usenet again. I

That's why I went back to Agent when I started reading usenet again. I

I paid for Agent at one point too, and use it, but the updates are not
free. I do get them though eventually. And I use Livejournal, and have
since I think 2002 or thereabouts. I posted less, and then not for a
year or so, but the people who can see that are fewer and it is more
private. Many people have stopped posting though and I seem to be
limited to only seeing the last 6 posts from friends.

Still using TP here! I got hold of a Windows 7 32 bit machine, and it
runs fine. (Well, a couple of minor irritations, but nothing
show-stopping.) I gather there are quite a lot of users running virtual
machines (XP or 7-32) on their 64-bit machines to keep using it.

I remember around the time of its (main) demise, there were lots of
discussions in the TP 'group of how to make Thunderbird behave/look like
it, including what add-ons to use (Quote Colours was one). They should
still be in its archives (I don't know how you get at them; it isn't an
alt.* 'group, so maybe Google Groups do hold it). [I've kept them all,
but separating them from others I've kept - let alone how to forward
them - would be difficult.]

group seems enjoyable, and fairly umratic. It's very busy though, so I
just can't keep up with it. Trying to find a thread I was interested in
is almost impossible, or keeping track of which comments I've already

You can turn on notifications for any thread and the group search works
well for either author or keywords. Mostly i can't be bothered with it
though.

I find that a big problem too, Serena, tracking what I've read and
want to follow. I get emails though with comments, but I think not

They have mad moments of foul language, which bores me. But those

David has already agreed.
Toby got Josh to ask David on behalf of Rex, not that Rex knew anything
about it at the time.

That was what I thought was going on, but found it hard to believe. In
Rex's place, I'd be strongly tempted to refuse - though I fear he has no
option as we've heard no other plans from him for his way forward,
unless he had plans to up sticks and leave Ambridge altogether. (Which I
think a normal person would still consider.)
