Discussion:
Alonso quicker than Hamilton in P2

Both on supersofts although we don't know the fuel loads of course. Also
Lewis was held up and the session was stopped prematurely after Bottas
lifted a drain cover and Grosjean hit it!

Nevertheless, Alonso must be wondering whether Honda are coming good just
at the moment that McLaren have finally decided to part company with them.

The switch to Renault is going to leave McLaren very short of time. Scarbs
analyses the situation here:

I would not read much into this.
Ham often seems to be of the pace in FP1 this season
in most cases he does not seem to have "come on song" until Q3

Hope you are right, I have a nasty feeling about this one.

First, the japanese jokers club wouldn't have spent an additional billion if they
would not have been sacked by McLaren.
Second, I have to see if they produce a better PU then Renault next year, I doubt it
no matter how much money they spent in their excuses factory.
Lets see how many more years they delay the introduction of their repeatedly delayed
Spec 3.8 version.

Well I think it is pretty obvious.
They started by bragging that they would challenge Mercedes from
the very first race in their return, I remember them saying :
“never underestimate the technology of Honda”
Some facts :
Honda has about 50 years racing experience
Honda has probably the best facilities in the world
Honda has a huge financial recourses
Honda has a an incredible amount of engineers ( I suppose )
Results:
They specially made chassis to test in 2014
It could NOT complete 4 laps ( about ) in the post season test.
They had 3 years of unprecedented failures; so called fixes that
never ever worked. They are unable to test anything they are unable
to fix anything and still have the same problems as in 2015.
Now they aiming to come close to the weakest PU apart from their own.
Now they try to blame McLaren for their unspeakable incompetence.
This to just name a few things I don’t like about Honda.

Come on... what are reasonable expectations given what Honda have delivered this year? I wouldn't go on as relentlessly as Edmund, but I am not expecting great things from them any time soon.

Unlikely. The last new PU he took was in Italy. Any new components know will see him starting this race from south of the Equator. Van Doorne took a new PU (and penalties) at the same race. Both were down on power there. They qualified well on a circuit where power confers less of an advantage, and Alonso made a good start - more about him than about the car - before getting taken out. Van Doorne finished 7th, but that was after 4 cars went out early - if he'd just held place he'd have finished 5th.

Alonso is running a new aero package this weekend.
