What Did You Watch? 2017-10-08 (Sunday)

I watched:

Almost all the Spiderman movies. All actors. Each in seqquence.
I can only assume this was to promote "Ironman: Homecoming" being
released on DVD.

THE LOVE BOAT:
• "Ace in the Hole". Captain Stubing hires Ted McGiney as the new
ship's photographer, unaware that he doesn't know how to develop film.
Julie and Lauren save his ass by posting all the unclaimed photos from
previous cruises in the viewing area with no one the wiser. Really? I
couldn't help but wonder if this was meant to foreshadow Ace becoming
added to the opening credits later or someone liked the story so much
they added him later.
• "Uncle Joey's Song". An annoying former kiddie-show host tries to
cheer up a kid whose father died. Couldn't they have cast someone who
was more believable as the host?
• "Father in the Cradle". Lee Meriwether is getting married to her
son's friend, who thinks his friend is marrying her for his mother's
money.

THE LOVE BOAT:
• "Ace's Valet". Ace's parents send the butler to care for him, until
Ace extrorts him into leaving. Just how would that work if the only
people allowed on the ship are employees or passengers? Is the valet
unemployed now?
• "Mother Comes First". Slutty 1980's chick Audrey Landers refuses to
enjoy herself until her mother, who is determined to not enjoy herself,
is set up with a man, so the daughter eventually convinces Gopher to
pretend to be an Indian from New Delphi for five minutes. Naturally,
the mother falls in love after the encounter, so Gopher has to make a
repeat performance and totally gets busted, but luckily, the mother
falls in love with Ace's valet offscreen.
• "Hit or Miss America". Several former Miss Americas appear as
themselves, including Vanesa Williams (I guess this was before she was
fired), who gets rid of a stalker by flirting heavily with Isaac. I am
pretty sure there are better ways to do that, one of which involves
telling Issac why you're acting all hot and heavy with him!

THE SIMPSONS:
"Springfield Splendor". Lisa and Marge put Lisa's "art therapy" in comic
book form, only for it to become a popular graphic novel and get turned
into a disatrous musical theatre piece by Martin Short.

GHOSTED:
"Jermaine the Zombie". Jermaine's son turns into a zombie after being
bitten by a demon cat and taken to a Halloween party.

FAMILY GUY:
"Foxx in the Men House". Peter becomes friends with a cool, handsome
paramedic named Stryker Foxx. Wrapped up in his newfound "coolness," he
soon dumps Quagmire, Joe and Cleveland.

What did you watch?

I turned this on off 5 minutes in. I too wondered about Vanessa
Williams and the timing ... she didn't hold the title very long. Let's
Google ...

Okay, this Love Boat aired Feb 25, 1984
She was crowned Miss America on Sept 15, 1983
And forced to resign in July 1984.
So they threaded the needle okay.

I laughed when Foxx didn't thread the needle and went splat.

Was that Kaepernick that got Lois and Meg pregnant?

What did you watch?
Beyond that, just background noise.

Did you notice in the opening credits they had to include her being Miss
America with her name?

I liked the bit with Kathy Bates trying to steal his stromboni while disguised
as him and Meril Streep winning an Oscar award for beating him up for using
her bathrom stall.

I think it was a generic basketball player or the one who was infamous for
banging female fans and siring children.. Wilt Chamberlain?

Victoria (ITV) -- After assassination attempts, Victoria and Albert
head to Scotland. After being bagpiped to death, they use some fog to
escape their entourage and head into the countryside where they wear
out their horses and become lost. They come upon a commoner hut and
receive housing and feeding from the older couple who know not who
they be. Victoria even learns darning from the matron. This kindles
something in the Pair and after opening Parliament, Victoria throws
off the vestiges of her throne and she and Albert cuddle and cook
trout over the fire in her room.

Chesapeake Shores (Hmrk) -- Chase's band members hound him to take the
deal with the label and to tour. He does and then afraid to lose Abby
renegs. Bree has her own issues and sends her man packing. Jess's has
to return to Boston to run his family's business while his father is
ill (his family is rich as Jess learns). So Bree, Jess, and Abby
commisserate. Connor is working for Uncle Thomas and Thomas thinks he
has the best of Mick, but he doesn't know about Abby's acquaitance
stepping in to do the financing. Nell's "the one that got away"
becomes known when a picture is found in the attic. Kevin seems to be
getting deeper into it with Sarah the firefighter. Abby turns Chase
loose to follow his dream.

Gourmet Detective (HMM) -- Dylan Neal and his wife write these things.
In this one, the blended family of businessman are murdered and fall
ill as if someone is jockying to take over. Also starring Brooke
Burns. Neal also brought his buddy Bruce Boxleitner over from Cedar
Cove to play his retire cop father. Meh.

Star Trek Discovery (CBSASS) -- This went silly fast. Burnam is tasked
by the Captain to figure out to weaponize the giant pet bug that
destroyed their companion ship last time around. The Indian Commander
arrogantly decides to declaw it nd pays the ultimate price. Burnan
figures out the creature isn't primarily aggressive but reacting
defensively. She also figures out it likes spores and that it's what
drove the spore drive on the companion starship. They hook it up just
in time to save some dilithium miners the Klingons are attacking.
There was a lot of Klingon dialog in this one as well as Klingon
politics and backstabbing, but I repeat myself. This was blah for me.

The strong impression I'm getting here is that despite all the ca$h these guys threw at EFX, "The Orville" is actually the *better* "Star Trek" show...

There's no way to make that sound like an accomplishment.

Bram Stoker's Dracula (4k blu-ray) Francis Ford Coppola's 1992 take on
Dracula staring Gary Oldman as the titular character and Anthony Hopkins
as Van Helsing. It's still a bit on the campy side, but it looks good.
Especially in 4K, the visuals really stand out.
If memory serves, there was no CGI or editting used for the special
effects.
