Dear Brits,

Allow us a minute of your time to tell you an anecdote about democracy in the
European Union.

Last April, the Netherlands held a national referendum on the EU Association
Treaty with Ukraine. We, the organisers, wanted to have a more direct say in
European Union developments, because we are worried about the ongoing and
highly undemocratic expansionism of the EU. No government in Europe should be
allowed to make far-reaching decisions without a majority consent.
So we set out to do something about it, and thanks to a successful Internet
campaign and nearly half a million signatures, we forced our government to
hold a referendum.

On April 6, a convincing 61 percent of the Dutch voters said "No" to the
undesirable Association Treaty. So was that the end of that? Was democracy
saved from the talons of the EU technocrats?

Unfortunately, no. Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, forced by his betters in
Brussels, decided to completely ignore the outcome of the referendum. The
Dutch voter was shunned by their national leaders, and, once again, democratic
voices were muffled by the unelected officials of the European Union.

As the organizers of the Dutch referendum, we are not here to meddle in your
national business. Dear Lord no -- We're not Brussels. But we do feel a need
to tell you our story. Because democracy matters. And in the European Union -
the people's voices are silenced and shunned.

Read and share our story. Decide for yourself how highly you value the
sovereignty of your national democracy. And cast your vote accordingly on June
23rd.

With love,

Your democratic friends from the Netherlands

Rutte: rash Ukraine referendum disastrous

Prime Minister Rutte will the outcome of the referendum on the association
agreement with Ukraine disastrous. "The referendum produced a disastrous
result," he said during a meeting with parliamentarians from EU countries.

Rutte reiterated that it is still possible that the Netherlands does not sign
the treaty, as negotiated in Europe and out of Dutch political parties on
anything.

Totally, totally, totally against

Rutte stressed that he hopes it will not have come this far. In conversation
with the parliamentarians, he also reiterated his position on referendums. "I
am totally against referendums. And I am totally, totally, totally against
referendums on multilateral agreements, Because it makes no sense."

According to Rutte shows Ukraine referendum that it is impossible to separate
the State deciding on an agreement that has been taken as a whole by the EU.
In the referendum last April voted 61 percent of voters against the
association agreement. ..

Furthermore Rutte stressed that it is high time to switch to a higher gear of
European market integration. Rules of different countries should be more
connected to each other, says Rutte, eg when shopping online. ..

...

Your play in the game of democracy means a little, kids. We rather have a
high time here to switch to a higher gear. You are silly, silly, silly kids,
you don't actually understand what you really need, but we do.

Russian military strategy causing dangerous encounters
Russian-su27.jpg

The Russian su-27 fighter jet photographed next to a Swedish
intelligence plane.

A full list of 39 incidents since March 2014

As classified by the European Leadership Network

High Risk Incidents

On 3 March 2014 a close encounter occurred between a SAS passenger plane
taking off from Copenhagen and a Russian reconnaissance aircraft which
did not transmit its position 50 miles south east of Malmo. A collision
was apparently avoided thanks only to good visibility and the alertness
of the passenger plane pilots. The SAS 737 plane was carrying 132
passengers to Rome.
On 5 September 2014 an Estonian security service operative, Eston
Kohver, was abducted by Russian agents from an Estonian border post, on
Estonian, and therefore NATO, territory. He was later taken to Moscow
and accused of espionage. The incident itself involved communications
jamming and the use of smoke grenades, and took place immediately after
President Obama’s visit to the region and his repetition of security
assurances to the Baltic States.
Between 17-27 October, 2014 a major submarine hunt by Swedish
authorities was prompted by credible intelligence reports of
“underwater activity” in the Stockholm archipelago in Swedish
territorial waters. Supreme Commander General Sverker Göranson
underlined that Sweden was ready to use “armed force” to bring the
vessel to the surface if necessary. Russia issued denials and attempted
to ridicule Swedish concerns. The major search operation stopped on Oct. 24.
Serious Incidents with Escalation Risk

On 12 April 2014 an unarmed Russian fighter aircraft made 12 passes of
the American warship the USS Cook in the Black Sea. Such aggressive
behaviour, if repeated by an armed aircraft, could have resulted in the
ship commander targeting the aircraft in an act of self-defence.
On April 23 2014 an armed Russian fighter undertook very threatening
manoeuvres in the vicinity of an American reconnaissance aircraft in the
Sea of Okhotsk. These manoeuvres involved demonstrating that the fighter
was armed. Such behaviour is far removed from what would be expected in
a relatively routine encounter.
In June 2014 armed Russian aircraft approached the heavily populated
Danish island of Bornholm before breaking off in what appears to have
been a simulated attack. The Danish intelligence service described the
incident as “of a more offensive character than observed in recent
years.”
On 16 July 2014 an armed Russian aircraft intercepted a Swedish
surveillance plane conducting operations between Gotland and Latvia in
international airspace, and flew within 10 metres of the plane. This
indicated a far more aggressive approach to intercepting aircraft than
in previous encounters.
On 18 July 2014 an American surveillance plane conducting operations
near Kaliningrad was chased into Swedish air-space after being
approached by Russian fighters. This evasive action took place without
Sweden’s prior approval that the US aircraft could enter Swedish airspace.
In early September, 2014 Russian strategic bombers in the Labrador Sea
near Canada practiced cruise missile strikes on the United States. The
Russian aircraft stayed outside of Canada’s ADIZ but this was still a
provocative move in light of the NATO summit ongoing at the time. Cruise
missiles launched from the Labrador Sea would have Ottawa, New York,
Washington, Chicago, and the Norfolk Naval Base in range.
On 7 September 2014 HMCS Toronto (a frigate) was buzzed by a Russian
aircraft in the Black Sea, with the plane coming within 300 metres of
the warship. HMCS Toronto locked its radar on the Russian plane but took
no further action as the aircraft was not armed. This incident coincided
with larger Russian naval combat training activities near Sevastopol.
Such aggressive behaviour, if repeated by an armed aircraft, could have
resulted in the ship commander targeting the aircraft in an act of
self-defence.
On 17 September 2014 two Russian military aircraft crossed into Swedish
air-space south of the island of Oland. The Russian Su-24 bombers
intentionally violated Swedish airspace possibly to test the
capabilities of the air defence system strengthened after previous
incidents. The Swedish Foreign Minister described the incident as the
‘most serious aerial incursion’ in years.
On 19 September 2014 Russian officers detained a Lithuanian shipping
vessel in international waters in the Barents Sea, subsequently towing
it to Murmansk. This represented a clear escalation in Russian attempts
at the provocation and intimidation of the Baltic States.
On 3 October 2014 a Russian fighter flew “within metres” of Swedish
surveillance aircraft in the Baltic in an incident deemed “unusually
provocative”. A collision between the aircraft would have had serious
repercussions for bilateral relations and increased military tensions
across the entire Baltic area.
From 28-30 October 2014, Russia conducted a major air exercise in the
North Sea, Atlantic, Black Sea and Baltic Sea. In a series of
developments, aircraft from NATO states and partners tracked Russian
long-range bombers conducting missions across this entire area,
including a large formation of Russian fighters and bombers conducting
missions over the Baltic Sea. All missions were conducted in
international airspace but their scale and use of different kinds of
aircraft and different zones of operation has added significantly to
increased tensions between NATO and Russia.
Near Routine Incidents

On 10 April 2014 two Russian Navy vessels involved in live missile
firing exercises entered Lithuania’s Baltic maritime economic zone,
causing serious disruption to shipping.
On 20 April 2014 a Russian recon aircraft observed Swedish military
installations. Unclear if there was a Swedish response.
On 23 April 2014 a Russian aircraft entered Dutch airspace before being
intercepted by Dutch fighter aircraft.
On 24 April 2014 RAF fighters intercepted and shadowed Russian aircraft
in international airspace over the North Sea.
On 28 April 2014, fighters with the Nato Baltic Air Policing force
scrambled to intercept Russian aircraft in international airspace.
On 9 May 2014 Russian aircraft approached to within 50 miles of the
Californian coast, the closest such Russian military flight since the
Cold War.
On 18 May 2014 RAF fighters intercepted a Russian helicopter and
shadowed it back to its parent corvette in the Baltic Sea; the fighters
later performed several passes of the Russian warship.
In late May, early June 2014 Russian aircraft carried out several
incursions into the US and Canadian Air Defence Identification Zones in
the Arctic.
On 12 June 2014, Nato fighters intercepted Russian aircraft in
international airspace near Latvia.
On 17 June 2014, RAF fighters intercepted a Russian air formation in
international airspace.
On 19 June 2014; HMS Montrose, a British frigate, was sent to
investigate a Russian corvette in international waters near Denmark’s
Baltic coast. HMS Montrose was subsequently circled by Russian maritime
patrol aircraft.
From 21 May to 13 August 2014, a series of short airspace violations by
Russian aircraft were reported over the Estonian island of Vaindloo.
On 1 August, Polish fighters of the Nato Baltic air-policing mission
intercepted Russian aircraft flying near Estonia airspace.
In early August 2014 several Russian air incursions were reported into
the Alaskan Air Defence Identification Zone.
On 7 August 2014 anti-submarine forces of Russia’s Northern Fleet
reportedly expelled an American submarine from the Barents Sea. The US
denied its submarines were operating in the area.
On 28 August 2014, there was an air incident involving an unknown Nato
country and Russia. No details beyond aircraft type except that incident
took place over the Baltic.
In August/September 2014, Russian naval and air units interfered with
the operations of a Finnish research vessel on two separate occasions.
In late August, 2014, multiple breaches of Finnish air-space by Russian
state aircraft were reported. In response, Finland has already indicated
that it will react more firmly to violations of its airspace in future.
On 11 September 2014, Canadian jets intercepted Russian aircraft in
international airspace.
Between the 17 and 18 September 2014, Russian jets entered the ADIZ off
the coast of Alaska (officials say such incidents happen around 10 times
a year) on two separate occasions, once on the evening of Wednesday 17th
Sep (USA ADIZ) and once on the morning of Thursday 18th Sep (Canadian
ADIZ, Beaufort Sea). The Russian planes were intercepted by American and
Canadian fighters. These incidents coincide with Ukrainian President
Petro Poroshenko’s visits to Ottawa and Washington.
On 19 September 2014, RAF jets shadowed Russian aircraft in
international airspace above the north sea.
On 29 September 2014, Latvian forces observed a Russian warship
operating 14 miles from Latvian territorial waters; article observes
that Russian jets and warships have been detected 173 times near
Latvia’s borders as of September.
On 20 October 2014, planes from the Baltic Air Policing mission
intercepted Russian surveillance Il-20 aircraft in international airspace
On 21 October 2014 Baltic Air Policing planes (Portuguese F-16s)
intercepted Russian Il-20 surveillance aircraft which entered Estonian
airspace next to the island of Saarema for about a minute.
On 31 October 2014, RAF Typhoons intercepted Russian aircraft
approaching UK airspace.

DALLAS MAIDAN: Staged Snipers Designed to Inflict 7/7 'Strategy of Tension'

Daily Shooter | JULY 8, 2016

Last night, a highly emotive and politicized GLADIO-style
<http://migre.me/ujwc5> event unfolded in America. Still, after so many other
similar events recorded throughout recent history - all followed by similarly
predictable political fall-outs and effects - the general public are still
slow to grasp what is really happening before their eyes.

The event in Dallas falls into a similar pattern of other high-profile
'sniper' attacks, all of which were stage false flag events designed with a
particular political, or geopolitical purpose in mind. ..

The Maidan Massacre

Back February 2014, events transpired in Kiev, Ukraine which sparked
international outrage and calls for 'regime change' in Kiev, and served as the
key catalyst for a coup d'etat and the ouster of Ukraine's democratically
elected president Viktor Yanukovych.

A leaked phone call between EU foreign affairs chief Catherine Ashton and
Estonian foreign affairs minister showed how there was knowledge at the
highest levels of European government, but western leaders opted to maintain a
disinterested stance in the face of this new evidence. Listen to the phone
call here

Since the incident, numerous investigations have been conducted that have
documented beyond any reasonable doubt that the Maidan's infamous 'sniper
massacre' was a politically engineered event, designed to lay the blame for
dead protesters and dead police - onto the government's Berkut special police
force, amplify domestic unrest and accelerate a US and EU supported
geopolitical campaign of destablization <http://migre.me/ujwfZ> which was
already in motion.

Earlier this year, in January 2016, one such academic investigation concluded
<http://sptnkne.ws/aw2K> that the sniper event at Maidan Square was in fact a
'false flag' <http://migre.me/ujwhA> event which was used to create a false
public perception of events and usher in a shift in political power in that
country. Canadian political science professor Dr. Ivan Katchanovski of Ottawa
University concluded that

"This academic investigation concludes that the massacre was a false flag
operation, which was rationally planned and carried out with a goal of the
overthrow of the government and seizure of power," wrote Katchanovski in
his study, called 'The "Snipers' Massacre" on the Maidan in Ukraine.'

Despite all these revelations, the US, UK and the EU are still standing by
their earlier narrative of the sniper massacre as a, 'Euromaidan democratic,
peaceful mass-protest movement and a 'color' revolution led by pro-Western
parties.'

Ukraine's own internal investigation into the matter has been shown to be a
highly political exercise, which appears to have resulted in a comprehensive
cover-up <http://migre.me/ujwkv> of what really happened on the day.

Snipers in Homs, Syria ..

The Dallas Deception ..

Between the 1960's and 1990's, Operation GLADIO <http://migre.me/ujwoB> saw
numerous staged terror events carried out in Europe in order to advance a
'strategy of tension'. All of the alleged "terrorist" attacks during this time
were later proven to be the work not of terrorists, but of the security and
intelligence services. Many innocent civilians died, and still to date, no one
has been convicted, much less brought before a court or public hearing on a
dirty state-sponsored program which many believe is still running to this day,
albeit in one form or another.

Expect the political rhetoric to spin out of control with each media cycle
over the next 72 hours, before fading into Monday. Such is the nature of the
Daily Shooter in these troubled and fleetingly real times.

Ukraine's authoritarian signals

MYKHAILO MINAKOV, TYMOFIY MYLOVANOV | July 5, 2016

.. Petro Poroshenko was elected to Ukraine's highest office in May 2014.
Today, there are indications that Ukraine's presidential institution is
winning the fight against both the parliament and the government again, while
continuing to consolidate power. .. Today, the president formally and
informally controls key bodies of executive, legislature and judiciary through
allies, new appointees and members of his financial-political group.
Throughout December 2015 and January 2016, many ministers of the previous
government announced their resignations. .. This political crisis lasted the
whole winter and half of spring, leading to a slowdown in reforms and
non-compliance with the conditions of the IMF programme .. On 14 April,
Volodymyr Groysman, deemed by many to be more loyal to Poroshenko than former
prime minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk, was appointed Ukraine's new prime minister.

Groysman's appointment was accompanied by numerous and grave violations of the
law. ..

On 12 May, Ukraine's parliament consented to the appointment of Yuriy
Lutsenko, former head of the president's parliamentary grouping, as the third
post-Maidan Prosecutor General.

Earlier, parliament approved legislative changes that decreased the competence
requirements for candidates for the post of prosecutor general, paving the way
for Lutsenko. Besides, parliament illegally ignored an alternative draft law
proposed by the opposition. Instead, the pro-presidential law was adopted and
published immediately. New legislation was approved to suit Lutsenko's
profile, and procedures were violated to avoid proper oversight of appointment
by opposition.

Finally, parliament has recently passed changes to Ukraine's constitution and
the law on the judiciary that strengthen the control the president has over
judges for a transition period, which incidentally comes to an end at the time
of the next presidential election in Ukraine.

Changes in the above-mentioned law dissolves the "Supreme Court of Ukraine"
(the only court that is able to impeach a president according to the
constitution) and introduces "Supreme Court". Following the loss of these two
words, lawyers believe that the legal procedure of impeachment is no longer
possible in Ukraine.

The president's formal and informal control over Ukraine's judicial and
executive branches is rising ..

...

These delusional domestic 'academic' guys think after the anti-constitutional
anti-democratic violent coup there might be something without 'numerous and
grave violations of the law'. No. The far the more boldly sick it will be.

"The West's actions have strengthened the Russian regime"

Stefan Hedlund | 11 Jul

.. My point was about the danger that lies in basing practical policies on the
assumption that regular citizens actually encompass the values the politicians
believe they must cover. ..

The notion of universal values looks beautiful in itself, but it is also a
myth. As it was clearly shown by the refugee crisis, there is no common values
even within Europe. Every country now cares about protecting their national
interests. Those who most cherished about values - Germany and Sweden - are
also the ones who have paid the highest price.

The Ukraine's tragedy must be seen against this background. .. In the case of
the Ukraine, the Russian stance has consistently been that's just a conflict
of interests, and so a negotiation is necessary. The attitude of the West has
been that it's a conflict of values, and Russia has no right to interfere. The
end result was the war and destruction.

The response from the West was to impose sanctions, which never had a minimal
impact to change Russia's behavior. For politicians in the West the sanction
policy was rather a way to obtain a sense of moral superiority, at the expense
of a huge price due to reduction of trade and collapse of the entire European
security architecture. ..

...

So they developed a self-delusion about their nice selves being full of nice
values and then they decided to play a zero sum game about the Ukraine which
turned out a negative sum game eventually.

Thus, according to the Ukraine facts, the modern European values are: support
for anti-democratic violence, disregard for the rule of law, encouragement of
extremist far right militancy, oppression of minorities and so on.

The backing of the unconstitutional / anti-democratic Ukraine 'regime change'
revealed the fact that their main value is shit, so if they believe they are
full of something then the latter is what they are actually full of.

Western Propaganda for a New Cold War

Rick Sterling | July 14, 2016

Western propaganda portrays Russia as the aggressor and NATO as the victim,
but the reality looks almost opposite from the ground level, Rick Sterling
found on a recent fact-finding trip.

Recently I went on a 15-day visit to Russia organized by the Center for
Citizen Initiatives <http://ccisf.org/>. The group visited Moscow, the Crimean
peninsula, Krasnodar (southern Russia) and St. Petersburg. In each location we
met many locals and heard diverse viewpoints.

CCI has a long history promoting friendship and trying to overcome false
assumptions between citizens of the USA and Russia. ..

Because of the sanctions, tourist cruise ships no longer stop at Crimean ports
and international airlines are prohibited from flying directly to the
international airport at the Crimean capital, Simferopol. Students from
Crimean universities cannot transfer their academic credits to universities
internationally.

Despite the sanctions and problems, Crimea appears to be doing reasonably
well. In the past two years, the airport has been rebuilt and modernized. The
streets of Balaclava, Sevastopol, Simferopol and Yalta are busy and bright. No
doubt things could be much better and residents want the sanctions lifted, but
there were no evident signs of shortages or poverty.

On the contrary, kids were enjoying ice cream, parks were full and streets
busy late into the night. The famous Artek Youth Camp near Yalta is being
refurbished with new dormitories, state of the art swimming pool and
gymnasium. Right now they are handling 3,000 youth in the camp at one time
with 30,000 kids from all over Russia this year.

A 12-mile bridge connecting Crimea to southern Russia is now half complete. A
impressive video showing the design is here <http://migre.me/umibg>. (OS:
Visit <http://most.life/> to find more about the Crimean bridge.)

What Provoked Crimea?

After 22 years as part of independent Ukraine following the breakup of the
Soviet Union, what drove the people of Crimea to overwhelmingly support a
referendum calling for "re-unification" with Russia? Was this the result of
intimidation or an "occupation" by Russia?

We received a very strong sense from talking with many different people in
Crimea that they are happy with their decision. The impetus was not aggression
from Russia; the impetus came from the violence and ultra-nationalism of the
foreign-backed coup in Ukraine overthrowing the democratically elected
President Viktor Yanukovych, who was strongly supported by Crimea's voters.
U.S.-supported protests against Ukraine's Yanukovych government began in
November 2013 in the "Maidan" (central square) in Kiev. Protesters included
right-wing nationalist and Nazi sympathizers hostile to the Yanukovych
government. .. The U.S. was deeply involved in promoting the "Maidan" protests
.. With thugs in the street increasingly clashing with police, U.S. officials
pressed the Ukrainian government ..

In mid-December 2013, hundreds of Crimeans traveled to Kiev in buses to join
peaceful protests in opposition to the Maidan protests seen on television.
They stayed in Kiev through January and into February until the violence
exploded on Feb. 18, 2014. Altogether, 82 persons were killed including 13
police and 1,100 injured.

At that point, the Crimeans decided peaceful protest was useless and to return
home. The bus caravan departed Kiev on Feb 20 but was stopped at night near
the town of Korsun. The buses were torched and the Crimean travelers
brutalized, beaten and seven killed. When news of this reached Crimea, it was
yet another cause for alarm.

A video titled "The Crimes of Euromaidan Nazis"

documents the events and includes interviews with numerous passengers. These
atrocities against unarmed Crimeans were committed on a public highway with no
intervention from local Ukrainian police. ..

OS. The police was demoralized at the time, and the ultra-nationalist gangs
flew into a rage by the smell of blood and sense of impunity. Today various
pro-Maidan 'stopfakes' try to claim that all this is a Russian propaganda
fiction. Youtube still keeps the videos, produced by pro-Maidan TV channels,
where they present this violence and insanity in a 'romantic' way.

These are the true 'european values' now.

.. While this history is largely ignored by the U.S. and Western media - The
New York Times won't even admit that there was a "coup" - the reality is well
known in Crimea and other ethnic Russian areas of Ukraine. Crimeans whom we
spoke with described their shock and outrage at the events that unfolded in
the winter of 2013-14.

In just four months they witnessed violent Maidan protests, the overthrow of
the elected government, beatings and killings of citizens returning from Kiev,
and then a parliamentary vote to remove Russian as an official language.

In response, local leaders recommended a Crimea wide referendum with the
option to officially re-unite with the country that Crimea had been part of
for over two centuries. A referendum was held on March 16. Turnout was 89
percent with 96 percent voting in favor of the "reunification of Crimea with
Russia."

With the violent overthrow of the Kiev government and clear proof of U.S.
involvement in the coup, it seems highly inaccurate to say that Russia
"invaded" or is "occupying" Crimea. (Russian troops were already stationed in
Crimea as part of the lease agreement for the Sevastopol naval base.) On the
contrary, it seems to be the U.S. and its allies were the "aggressive" ones.

The same reversal of reality is going on with the expansion of NATO. In recent
weeks, NATO has placed armed forces in Poland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania
while complaining about Russia engaging in threatening military deployments
inside Russia.

NATO military expenses are already 13 times greater than that of Russia yet
NATO plans to increase military spending even more. Meanwhile the U.S.
unilaterally withdrew from the Anti-Ballistic Missile (ABM) Treaty in 2002 and
is busy building and installing ABM sites in Alaska and now Eastern Europe.
With a serious face, U.S. officials have previously claimed these sites are
being installed because of the danger of "Iranian missiles" but only a fool
could take that seriously.

There is the additional risk that the same sites could be converted from
anti-ballistic missiles to contain nuclear warheads.

Are NATO and the U.S. preparing for war? The public should be asking hard
questions to our political and military leaders as they waste our tax dollars
and risk global conflagration. And, enough of the nonsense about Russian
"aggression" when the evidence indicates it's the U.S. and its allies that are
destabilizing other countries, escalating a new arms race and promoting
conflict instead of diplomacy.

Russian ambassador urges UN to prevent relapse of war in Donbass

UNITED NATIONS, July 22. /TASS/. Relapse of large-scale military operations in
eastern Ukraine may bury the process of peace settlement there, the Russian
ambassador to the UN, Vitaly Churkin said in a letter to the UN Security
Council on Friday. ..
Churkin said precise implementation of the September 2014 and February 2015
Minsk accords obviously stands outside the scope of interests of the Ukrainian
leadership. Simultaneously, all the symptoms indicate the Ukrainian military's
preparations for an armed operation.
"There is no way letting the provocations by Ukrainian military in the
southeast (of Ukraine) grow over into full-scale combat operations along the
entire frontline," the letter said. "A relapse of the war may bury the process
of peaceful settlement."
"In this connection, we call on all the international partners to put pressure
on Kiev so as to prevent events from taking a disruptive course," Churkin
said. ..

...

Looks like the Kiev freaks may restart full-scale hot hostilities soon.

For the Kiev freaks it may be a way to save themselves because their approval
ratings are extremely low, and many disillusioned in the Ukraine now call for
one more 'revolution'.

And the infamous Obama presidency also comes to end with complete failure in
many respects, - I think, in the end, he can unleash a war in Europe just out
of desperation.

Dr. Neal Krawetz, the creator of FotoForensics tool, explains that the s. c.
'citizen investigative journalist' group Bellingcat misused his tool, and also
a similar one, in order to deliberately mislead the general public with the
false idea that these tools allegedly provide a sort of 'scientific proof' to
the claim that the Russian MoD allegedly faked the satellite photos etc.

<http://www.hackerfactor.com/blog/> / <http://archive.is/RAx3Z>

More Bad Analysis

Last year, a group called 'Bellingcat' came out with a report about flight
MH17, which was shot down near the Ukraine/Russia border. In their report,
they used FotoForensics to justify their claims. However, as I pointed out in
my blog entry <http://migre.me/uqGti>, they used it wrong. The big problems in
their report:

a.. Ignoring quality. They evaluated pictures from questionable sources.
These were low quality pictures that had undergone scaling, cropping, and
annotations.

b.. Seeing things. Even with the output from the analysis tools, they jumped
to conclusions that were not supported by the data.

c.. Bait and switch. Their report claimed one thing, then tried to justify
it with analysis that showed something different.

Bellingcat recently came out with a second report. The image analysis portion
of their report heavily relied on a program called 'Tungstène'. (From what
I've seen, Tungstène has more offerings than the public version of
FotoForensics, but is nowhere near as full-featured as the commercial version
of FotoForensics.) However, this is where Bellingcat made their first huge
mistake. As their source mentioned <http://migre.me/uqGuA>:

Bellingcat conducted a simple error level analysis (ELA) exercise using an
online tool, Foto Forensics. Others have criticized Bellingcat, suggesting
that a proper analysis should use more sophisticated software available to
police and intelligence agencies. The James Martin Center for
Nonproliferation Studies at the Middlebury Institute of International
Studies at Monterey has a license for one example of such software, called
Tungstène, and conducted an analysis using a suite of filters in the
program.

The first problem was not that they used ELA. The problem was that they used
it wrong and reached a conclusion that was not supported by the error level
analysis. (I should also point out that branches of law enforcement do use
FotoForensics. But unlike Tungstène, my client list is not public.)

With the scientific approach, it does not matter who's tool you use. A
conclusion should be repeatable though multiple tools and multiple algorithms.
One of the pictures that they ran though Tungstène was the same cloud picture
that they used with ELA. And unsurprisingly, it generated similar results --
results that should be interpreted as low quality and multiple resaves.

Last year, Bellingcat evaluated the cloud picture with ELA. They claimed to
see 5 different regions. They then incorrectly concluded digital alteration
based on a low quality picture.

This year, Bellingcat evaluated the picture with some of Tungstène's filters.
These filters appear to average results over the JPEG grid. For the uniformly
white section of cloud, one filter marked it as white to denote the uniform
region. After repeated resaves and scaling, the white clouds normalized to a
single color. For the second filter (purple, Q3 histogram), we can see that
they still evaluated the picture that was annotated. These results denote a
low quality picture and multiple resaves, and not an intentional alteration as
Bellingcat concluded.

Just like last year, Bellingcat claimed that Tungstène highlighted indications
of alterations in the same places that they claimed to see alterations in the
ELA result. Bellingcat used the same low quality data on different tools and
jumped to the same incorrect conclusion.

Intentional Deception

Jumping to the wrong conclusion one time can be due to ignorance. However,
using a different tool on the same data that yields similar results, and
stilljumping to the same wrong conclusion is intentional misrepresentation and
deception. It is fraud. ..

Bellingcat's PDF report makes many remarkable claims. Of the claims that I am
qualified to evaluate, they are all false claims. Bellingcat cannot truthfully
reach the conclusions based on the data they evaluated. And since these
pictures form the basis for much of their report, they repeatedly reach
conclusions based on faulty premises. Moreover, since they are making the
exact same mistakes as they did last year, their report can only be
interpreted as a work of fraud.

I should also mention that other people have also pointed out problems with
Bellingcat's PDF report. For example, there is a claim that the satellite is
at the wrong angle. I am not an expert on satellite positioning, so I cannot
confidently evaluate this claim. However, I can readily identify glaring and
obvious problems with their digital photo analysis -- that they use for nearly
25% of their report. If I can immediately spot problems with 25% of their
report, then there is no reason for me to believe the 75% that I cannot
readily evaluate contains any truth. ..

In my case, Bellingcat relied on my tools in an attempt to justify their
conclusions, actively sought out my expert opinion, and then insulted me when
my opinion differed from their desired result.

The sad thing is that I know people in the media who consider Bellingcat to be
a credible source. ..

.. The U.S. role was discussed
in Ukraine's
parliament pre-coup.

The United States Congress has officially acknowledged <http://bit.ly/2a8zx2A>
what is beyond dispute: the role of neo-Nazis in the coup government.
According to widespread allegations, coup snipers were trained in Poland
<http://bit.ly/2atJpAb> on behalf of the United States
<http://bit.ly/2abTt1E>.

President Obama took credit for the U.S. role in the regime change on CNN
<http://cnn.it/2aqJnec>: "And since Mr. Putin made this decision around Crimea
and Ukraine - not because of some grand strategy, but essentially because he
was caught off-balance by the protests in the Maidan and Yanukovych then
fleeing after we had brokered a deal to transition power in Ukraine - since
that time, this improvisation that he's been doing has getting - has gotten
him deeper and deeper into a situation that is a violation of international
law, that violates the integrity, territorial integrity and sovereignty of
Ukraine." As if facilitating a neo-Nazi coup doesn't do that! ..

Even imagining that the United States did not play a role in the coup, the
fact of the coup would still render what Crimea and Russia did in response
very different from the "aggression" alleged by U.S. media, the resulting myth
permeating U.S. understanding, and the worldview of Congress members acting on
that mythical basis.

.. Network Close To NATO Military Leader Fueled Ukraine Conflict

Christoph Schult, Klaus Wiegrefe | July 28, 2016

Working with dubious sourcing, a group close to NATO's chief military
commander Philip Breedlove sought to secure weapons deliveries for Ukraine, a
trove of newly released emails revealed. The efforts served to intensify the
conflict between the West and Russia.

The newly leaked emails reveal a clandestine network of Western agitators
around the NATO military chief, whose presence fueled the conflict in Ukraine.
Many allies found in Breedlove's alarmist public statements about alleged
large Russian troop movements cause for concern early on. Earlier this year,
the general was assuring the world that US European Command was "deterring
Russia now and preparing to fight and win if necessary."

The emails document for the first time the questionable sources from whom
Breedlove was getting his information. He had exaggerated Russian activities
in eastern Ukraine with the overt goal of delivering weapons to Kiev.

The general and his likeminded colleagues perceived US President Barack Obama,
the commander-in-chief of all American forces, as well as German Chancellor
Angela Merkel as obstacles. ..

Breedlove sought counsel from some very prominent people, his emails show.
Among them were Wesley Clark, Breedlove's predecessor at NATO, Victoria
Nuland, the assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs at
the State Department, and Geoffrey Pyatt, the US ambassador to Kiev. One name
that kept popping up was Phillip Karber, an adjunct assistant professor at
Georgetown University in Washington DC and president of the Potomac Foundation
.. (OS: All these figures, except maybe Wesley Clark, are strongly associated
with the American Neocon Order.) ..

Surreptitious Channels

On February 16, 2015, when the Ukraine crisis had reached its climax, Karber
wrote an email to Breedlove, Clark, Pyatt and Rose Gottemoeller, the under
secretary for arms control and international security at the State Department,
who will be moving to Brussels this fall to take up the post of deputy
secretary general of NATO. Karber was in Warsaw, and he said he had found
surreptitious channels to get weapons to Ukraine -- without the US being
directly involved.

According to the email, Pakistan had offered, "under the table," to sell
Ukraine 500 portable TOW-II launchers and 8,000 TOW-II missiles. The
deliveries could begin within two weeks. Even the Poles were willing to start
sending "well maintained T-72 tanks, plus several hundred SP 122mm guns, and
SP-122 howitzers (along with copious amounts of artillery ammunition for
both)" that they had leftover from the Soviet era. The sales would likely go
unnoticed, Karber said, because Poland's old weapons were "virtually
undistinguishable from those of Ukraine." ..

In March, Karber traveled again to Warsaw in order to, as he told Breedlove,
consult with leading members of the ruling party, on the need to "quietly
supply arty (eds: artillery) and antitank munitions to Ukraine." ..

'The Front Is Now Everywhere'

Karber's emails constantly made it sound as though the apocalypse was only a
few weeks away. "The front is now everywhere," he told Breedlove in an email
at the beginning of 2015, adding that Russian agents and their proxies "have
begun launching a series of terrorist attacks, assassinations, kidnappings and
infrastructure bombings," in an effort to destabilize Kiev and other Ukrainian
cities.

In an email to Breedlove, Clark described defense expert Karber as
"brilliant." After a first visit, Breedlove indicated he had also been
impressed. "GREAT visit," he wrote. Karber, an extremely enterprising man,
appeared at first glance to be a valuable informant because he often -- at
least a dozen times by his own account -- traveled to the front and spoke with
Ukrainian commanders. The US embassy in Kiev also relied on Karber for
information because it lacked its own sources. "We're largely blind," the
embassy's defense attaché wrote in an email.

At times, Karber's missives read like prose. In one, he wrote about the 2014
Christmas celebrations he had spent together with Dnipro-1, the
ultranationalist volunteer battalion. "The toasts and vodka flow, the women
sing the Ukrainian national anthem -- no one has a dry eye."

Karber had only good things to report about the unit, which had already been
discredited as a private oligarch army. ..

...

German Spiegel is itself a pro-Atlanticist outlet, and I see this article as
a part of the effort to whitewash Obama and Merkel off the Ukraine-related
crimes and shift the main responsibility to the second-tier figures.

Their initial crime was to misrepresent the anti-constitutional coup in Kiev,
implemented by the far right militant gangs as a popular uprising against a
dictatorship. It was a very big lie and an insult to the human intelligence.
Nevertheless, the Atlanticist propaganda had to support the false narrative,
and to support it properly it was necessary to exaggerate the false idea of
the alleged Russian intention to 'restore' something 'awful' and invade those
Baltics and Polands. The far the more it leads them to a dead end. The neocons
are shit, but the main responsibility for the war still lies with Obama and
the current EU-cracy, which includes Merkel as a key figure.

due to the collapse of heavy industry have become the basis of export revenues
of the state. The problems here, however, are related not to the power of
local oligarchs and strong pro-Russian sentiment but rather to a strong
anti-Ukrainian sentiment, which is against the elites who took power in Kiev
as a result of the revolution on the Maidan.

In 2014, the politicians from Galicia led by Lvov figures, came to power in
Kiev. The Galician Ukrainians present their characteristic kind of nationalism
and promote their own ideological trends, as the state policy towards national
history. They are also strongly represented in the parliament. This is a
top-down attempt to build a new Ukrainian society, mainly based on the
anti-Soviet agenda. But the Galicians represent at best only about 20% of the
population. Most of other Ukrainians don't share their ethos. Similar
proportions exist in the linguistic and ideological structure of the army,
that makes us think about the possibility of its cohesive action.

In addition, the southern areas, called today's 'Wild Fields', is another area
of lawlessness, including the drugs. As other regions, they are ruled by
oligarchs, which seemingly fully control all state institutions, such as
courts, prosecutors and police. An example of such a position is
Dnepropetrovsk region, which real ruler is Igor Kalomojski.

And then we go to Zaporojia, Kirovograd, Poltava and Kharkov regions, which
until the coup were the industrial center of the country. Currently, due to
structural economic crisis and the Russian embargo, they turned into
depressive regions. They are socially and politically unstable because of high
unemployment and rising crime. In this way, the industrial center of the
Ukraine joined the traditionally most backward areas - Sumy and Chernigov.

The Donetsk and Luhansk regions, the coal base of the Ukraine, are even not
worth mentioning, because of the two years of war there.

So the question is, what do the president, council of ministers and parliament
really control? It seems that the only Kiev region and the capital itself and
also the Vinnitsa region, the oligarchic cradle of Pres. Parashenko and the
current prime minister Hrujsman.

In the parliament, each of the peripheral regions has a few heir MPs. They
tolerates the president and the government only from the lack of a better
guarantee of their inviolability. But if a possible reform violates their
prosperity, the scenario of open defiance against Kiev becomes likely. ..

...

Due to all this the smartass Polish analyst proposes 'the West' to impose
external (compulsory, unelected) 'western' government in the Ukraine since the
Ukrainians are obviously unable to manage their life by themselves.

Update from Ukraine

NICOLAI N. PETRO, DAVID C. SPEEDIE | AUGUST 18, 2016

.. NICOLAI PETRO: The interpretation of the Minsk Accords by the Ukrainian
government has shifted dramatically from when the accords were signed to
today. The Accords stipulate that all the things that have to be done
politically and economically to reintegrate Eastern Ukraine into the rest of
Ukraine-including decentralization initiatives, changes to the constitution,
then local elections-all need to occur before the rebel forces transfer
control of the Eastern border over to Ukrainian authorities. Understandably,
the rebels see control of the border as their lifeline to survival. Therefore,
as a gesture of goodwill and reconciliation, the Minsk Accords stipulated in
detail all the things Kiev had to do before control of the border was
transferred.

However, over the past year the Ukrainian government has said, "Transfer
control of the border first, then, when we are in control we'll negotiate with
the local population." Well, obviously this is not a viable position for
negotiation.

DAVID SPEEDIE: Yes, not a great bargaining tool.

NICOLAI PETRO: No. Or at least it's not going to sound that way to the rebels
in the East.

DAVID SPEEDIE: Yes. ..

NICOLAI PETRO: That's a very good question, on many levels. Is he in control
of the political process? How much so? Is he in control of the military? Is he
in control of the paramilitary forces? Pretty clearly he doesn't seem to be in
control of the paramilitary forces, because he has ceded effective control
over those to the ministry of interior, Arsen Avakov. Mr. Avakov even makes
statements in the press about the need to replace current military generals,
even though he's not formally in the military chain of command.

These sorts of statements lead one to suspect that Poroshenko is in a bind;
that he is not sure precisely how to proceed, and may not have the tools at
his disposal to lead the country.

DAVID SPEEDIE: That sort of questionable control seems to go beyond the
military. You were kind enough to share some of your impressions of the summer
recently spent in Ukraine. It makes, if I may say, for some pretty depressing
reading. The word would seem to be stasis in terms of the economy, in terms of
any control over corruption, in terms of the influence of the oligarchs. There
just seems to be a frozen-in-time element and no visible sort of exit in the
direction of improvement.

NICOLAI PETRO: I would say you're right. The lack of forward movement on a
concerted reform agenda is now widely recognized in Ukraine. That's one of the
reasons that there really is no political coalition in charge with a
consistent reform agenda.

The political parties that now dominate the parliament, the Poroshenko Bloc
and the Popular Front, both have popularity ratings around 10 percent. As a
result, it's very difficult for them to promote reforms, and the latest
reshuffle of the government in April has only weakened the position of the
reformist political forces. ..

...

'Reformist political forces', they say. The anti-constitutional coup February
2014 was driven by a naive national-socialist agenda, if speaking about the
'popular protests' as such. The corrupt politicians that came to power
eventually were in hope they could manipulate the domestic sheep to downplay
the 'maidan' slogans and hopes, but now such a device does not want to fly.

All this standard stupid Western fetishism - 'reforms' blah-blah - is not what
those protesters wanted, and not what the local political actors, that favored
the coup, are really willing to implement.

The backing of the unconstitutional 'regime change' in the Ukraine revealed
the fact what the modern 'Western values' really are: support for the anti-
democratic violence and disregard for the rule of law. All covered by the
false romantic 'revolution' fairy tale. Now the far the more it'll be obvious
that you can not build anything decent on the base of shit, - this is just the
post-coup Ukraine case: the crappy anti-democratic way the coup had happened
is not what would allow to develop anything good.

Man charged with terrorism offences linked to Ukraine conflict

28 SEPTEMBER 2016 | 1:44PM

A 41-year-old man has been charged with two terrorism offences linked to the
conflict in eastern Ukraine.

Benjamin Stimson from Oldham is set to appear at Westminster magistrates'
court on Wednesday, Greater Manchester Police said.

He is accused of two offences, one involving "the intention of committing acts
of terrorism and engaging in conduct in preparation for giving effect to his
intention", and the second "the intention of committing acts of terrorism and
assisting acts of terrorism".

Mr Stimson was interviewed by the BBC while he was with the Donbass militia in
eastern Ukraine in October 2015, and was filmed saying he would be prepared to
kill if his life was threatened, and he would see it as an act of war.

However, in a video posted on YouTube last month, he claimed the journalists
had told him to handle a gun.

He said: "They told me to pick a weapon up." Mr Stimson also denied any
involvement in military action, saying he had gone to the country to drive
ambulances and at the time of the interview was trying to get away from the
militia.

...

Even if he was involved in a military action, it was not a terrorism, so the
formulation of offences is utterly false. Donbas militias are not terrorists.
Meanwhile, Kiev used and still intends to use violent means including terror
to force the Donbas people to submit to the new regime established after the
anti-constitutional violent 'regime change' in February 2014.

JIT: Flight MH17 was shot down by a BUK missile from a farmland near
Pervomaiskyi

28 september 2016

.. Launch site

The final destination of the BUK-system was on farmland near Pervomaiskyi.
Evidence that supports this includes multiple witnesses who saw and
photographed the condensation trail of the BUK missile and its movement
through the air. Other witnesses were able to link the trail to the BUK-TELAR
which they had seen earlier on 17 July 2014.

Witnesses were interviewed who had seen a plume of smoke, the BUK-TELAR at the
launch site in Pervomaiskyi, and the missile right after it had been launched.
Journalists have spoken to witnesses who had seen the launch of the missile at
a very short distance from the launch location. These witnesses testified that
they heard a very loud noise and a high whistling sound. ..

...

This is an excerpt that I personally tend to see as one of the most unfounded
items in their investigation. It's about the condensation trail. The area near
the launch site they suggest is not a desert, and many people should have been
seeing it. Such a trail would be a quite unusual / unexpected thing, and
within next hours there naturally should have been some talks about that. It's
natural that people might fail to quickly react to take a photo or video, but
it should have been likely captured by car video recorders and it should have
been published quickly after the event. However nothing of the sort happened,
and there seems to be no traces of talks about the trail in open local
communities. Only one dubious photo allegedly presenting the trail appeared
quickly. The witnesses 'spoken to journalists' long after the event can not be
considered a much credible source. If one has enough time and money, and the
stakes are high, then this one indeed can find or design such witnesses. Same
would be relevant also to 'intercepted telephone conversations' and things
like that, especially it they were produced by the post-coup Ukrainian 'SBU'.

Taking into account the torrent of lies related to the Ukraine mess, from the
very beginning, the furious accusatory hysteria in this case, the fact of the
indecorous protraction of the investigation (in order to allow the MSM and
popular 'amateur investigators' to foredrive a proper image into public mind)
it's hardly possible to consider the JIT's report a credible conclusion.

The above is solely my personal consideration (I also said the same before).

A representative of Almaz-Antey, the manufacturer of the BUKs, has said today
that their modeling was more accurate while the Dutch experts don't present a
reliable technical rationale for their arguments.

Recently, the ultra-nationalist (west-)Ukrainian activists launched a vocal
campaign for introduction of visa regime with Russia. The Ukrainian MFA
strongly opposes this initiative. The BBC reports why it is so.

According to the Ukrainian MFA, the visa regime will lead to a huge loss of
the population of the Ukraine. The fact is that many of the citizens of the
Ukraine have links to Russia and / or are persistently residing within Russia,
so in the tit-for-tat case they will simply prefer to change their citizenship
to the Russian one. Only in one 2015 year, 4.1 million of the Ukrainians have
moved to live and work in Russia (OS: This is not 'my' number, this is the
BBC referring to the Ukrainian official sources.)

...

According to my knowledge, about 5 million of the Ukrainians are in Russia
now. It includes about 1-1.5 million refugees from E. Ukraine, but most part
of the Ukrainians in Russia are here due to economic reasons, a part of them
are illegal immigrants. It means that - among the working age Ukrainians - one

Bad History Doesn't Make Friends
Kiev's glorification of wartime Ukrainian nationalists threatens to turn away
its Western allies - just when it needs them the most.

ANDREAS UMLAND | OCTOBER 25, 2016

.. Of particular issue is the historical interpretation of a radical
nationalist party that sought to carve out an independent Ukraine around the
time of the Second World War - the diehard "Bandera faction" of the
Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN-B). The dilemma is that, while
many of the OUN-B's leaders and ordinary members gave their lives in Ukraine's
fight for independence, most were also virulent nationalists, to the point of
outright xenophobia. Some were even complicit in the Holocaust and other mass
crimes against civilians. As a result, though the group enjoys considerable
sympathy among Ukraine's governing class and large parts of the intellectual
elite, it is highly controversial among the country's Russian-leaning
population, its Jews, its liberal intelligentsia, and its foreign partners. ..

.. The Ukrainian Institute for National Remembrance (UINP in Ukrainian) - the
main government body responsible for historical memory - .. has since been
pushing a whitewashed version of the OUN-B's ideology and actions during the
war. Through its various popular publications, media appearances, web
projects, and other initiatives, the UINP portrays the group's leaders, such
as Stepan Bandera, Roman Shukhevych, and Yaroslav Stetsko, as national heroes
of unimpeachable nobility. ..

In particular, the institute's campaign to honor an extreme nationalist
movement runs entirely counter to the principles that underlie the whole
enterprise of European integration. ..

To make matters worse, Ukraine's embrace of the OUN makes it that much easier
for Russian propagandists to portray Kiev as a nest of fascists. .. The UINP
and other activists are alienating Ukraine's most important international
partners and allies at a time when Ukraine needs their help the most. ..

...

The modern Atlanticism is full of the liberal and progressive shit, and the
writer of the cited article is one of them. That's not Russian propagandists
who 'portray Kiev as a nest of fascists', it's the Atlanticist liberal and
progressive scum that are trying their best to whitewash the 'new' Kiev from
its obvious connections to the Nazism. Actually, the 'maidan' protest was
driven mainly by the national-socialist sentiment based on the WW2 pro-Nazi
nostalgia, and the anti-constitutional anti-democratic coup February 2014
was implemented by the militant neo-Nazi groups. As soon as 'the West' backed
the coup, you are in bed with these guys.

For the post-coup Kiev regime, that usurped power illegally, it's impossible
not to heroize and romanticize the Nazi collaborationists and participants of
the holocaust etc because the 'heroes' of the 2014 'revolution' demand that.

The liberal and progressive scum should clamp their nose and take the Kiev's
glorification of the WW2 Ukrainian Nazi for granted, moreover, it's time to
stop pretending and fooling themselves and honestly recognize the fact that
the Nazism was not a specifically German 'aberration' but is rather a natural
and genuine, generally 'Western' thing <http://archive.is/1pXrm>.

Open Letter to Stéphane Dion re: Ukraine and Russia

JOHN RYAN CANADIAN POLITICS JULY 30, 2016

The Honourable Stéphane Dion
Minister of Foreign Affairs

House of Commons

Ottawa, ON K1A 0G2

Dear Minister Dion,

Thank you for your letter of June 30 that was in response to my letter to you
of November 17, 2015.

When your government came into office last fall you inherited the Harper
Conservative foreign policy towards Ukraine and Russia which was in lock-step
with that of the USA. My purpose in writing to you was to alert your new
government to the fact that there was considerable evidence that for a variety
of reasons Harper’s and the USA’s foreign policy positions were at variance
with the reality of the situation. ..

.. Although Yanukovych may have been corrupt, he was no more corrupt than all
of Ukraine’s previous leaders since its independence in 1991. The important
point is that Yanukovych had been legally elected in 2010, but on February 22
of 2014 he was deposed in a coup d’état, engineered by the USA. This was
confirmed by a variety of sources, including George Friedman, the Founder and
CEO of Stratfor, the ‘Shadow CIA’ firm, who made the comment: “It really was
the most blatant coup in history.” What irony! Here you decry the Yanukovych
government that had been legally elected, but there is not a word from you
about the coup d’état that replaced him! And the new illegal regime included
fascists and neo-Nazis! Not a word about this. I can understand this coming
from Harper, but from you … as the Minister of External Affairs for the
“enlightened sunny ways” Trudeau government … this is most disturbing.

As for Crimea, some historical perspective is required. The very first action
that was taken by the coup government under Yatsenyuk was a bill that made
Ukrainian the only legal language in Ukraine, eliminating Russian as a legal
regional language. Just imagine if a federal government in Canada suddenly
passed a bill making English the only official language in Canada. In such a
case, how long would it take to have Quebec hold a referendum to secede from
Canada and to have an overwhelming vote to do so? That is exactly what
happened in Crimea. That is why the referendum was held on short notice and
why there was an 83% turnout and a 97% vote to secede from Ukraine and apply
for membership in the Russian Federation. It was on this basis that Russia
accepted Crimea back into the Russian Federation.

It is a false and propagandistic assertion that Russia “annexed” Crimea.
Annexation implies a forceful military assault and takeover of an area,
whereas the people of Crimea, in a peaceful overwhelming manner, showed that
they wanted to leave Ukraine and voluntarily join Russia. Russia obliged by
having them rejoin the country they had lived in for more than a couple of
centuries.

Further on this historical matter, Crimea had been part of Russia since 1783
but was “gifted” to Ukraine illegally by Khrushchev in 1954. Also, shortly
before the dissolution of the USSR, Crimea voted in a referendum on January
20, 1991 to rejoin the Russian Federation, by a vote of 94% (with an 80%
turnout), but Ukraine refused to accept the vote, and Russia under Yeltsin was
too distracted and too weak to object. So Crimea has had two almost identical
referenda, with the final one being recognized. After Crimea’s 1991
referendum, Ukraine changed its constitution in manner that was designed to
prevent Crimea from ever holding another referendum. According to Ukraine’s
1996 constitution (Clause 73) the issue of altering the territory of Ukraine
must be resolved exclusively by an all-Ukrainian referendum. However, it can
be argued that such a provision in a country’s constitution that restricts the
right of a national group to hold a referendum of its own on the issue of
self-determination is a violation of the UN Charter. General Assembly
resolution 1514 (XV) of 14 December 1960 gives a distinct group of people,
such as those in Quebec, Scotland or in Crimea, “the right to
self-determination; by virtue of that right they freely determine their
political status and freely pursue their economic, social and cultural
development.”

In accordance with this UN provision, Quebec was able to hold two referenda on
its own, without being subjected to try to do this by means of an all-Canada
referendum or seeking Canada’s permission to hold a referendum. In this same
manner, Scotland was able to have a referendum on the issue of its
independence. The inclusion of Clause 73 in Ukraine’s revised constitution
effectively blocks Crimea from having a referendum, and this is surely a
violation of the UN Charter. For this legitimate reason and because Crimea
refused to recognize the legality of Ukraine’s coup government, which by
virtue of the coup had violated the country’s constitution, Crimea chose to
ignore Ukraine’s arbitrary requirement and proceeded to hold a referendum on
its future on March 16, 2014.

When the Crimean parliament announced its intention to hold a
self-determination referendum, Ukraine’s Constitutional Court immediately
ruled that such a referendum would contravene Ukraine’s constitution which
allowed for only an all-Ukraine referendum, and hence on this basis Crimea’s
referendum would be illegal. It is this matter that became a cause célèbre,
with never a mention that Crimea had a right to its referendum by virtue of a
provision in the UN Charter.

To put this matter in further perspective, in February 2008 the Albanian
province of Kosovo declared its independence from Serbia – without even the
pretence of a referendum! In response, this was greeted with warm approval by
the United States. Afterwards, in 2010 the UN International Court’s Advisory
Opinion concerning Kosovo indicated that “international law contains no
prohibition on declarations of independence,” which was a clear-cut
endorsement of Kosovo’s declaration, which had been done without a referendum.
Despite this precedent setting situation, when Crimea held its well-monitored
referendum, its declaration of independence was strongly condemned by the
United States.

In view of this, to pretend that the USA’s negative response to Crimea’s
referendum is not politically motivated is to be naive in the extreme. Given
this, it is highly problematic for Canada to support the USA’s political
agenda on Ukraine and Russia.

You cite the G-7 March 27, 2014 declaration condemning Russia’s action to
readmit Crimea into their federation – but such a declaration was in effect a
political decision to vilify Russia and it ignored the reality of what had
actually happened. As I’ve already mentioned, contrary to the wording of the
declaration, there had been no “Russian invasion” and there was no “coercion
or force” and Crimea was not “annexed” into the Russian Federation. The facts
speak for themselves, but reality was ignored because the US in particular was
determined to vilify Russia and impose sanctions on the country. However, no
matter how the issue is twisted, there is no question that Crimea’s referendum
was conducted legally and none of the international observers detected any
irregularities. Furthermore, every public opinion poll conducted in Crimea
since then shows that more than 90 percent of the people approve of their
decision to rejoin the Russian Federation. If democracy has any meaning
whatsoever, how can anyone insist that “Crimea has to be returned to Ukraine”?

You are absolutely correct in saying that “… the Minsk peace process
represents the only path to durable peace.” However, you make no mention of
the fact that it is Ukraine that has failed to live up to all of the 13
clauses of Minsk-2. Ukraine continues its military attacks against Donetsk and
Lugansk. It does not recognize the elected authorities of these two regions
(as it had been required to do), and hence no progress has been made on a
political settlement, including the required regional elections. Instead of
dialogue and a joint agreement with the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, on March
17, 2015, Ukraine’s Rada unilaterally passed a corresponding resolution,
contrary to the Minsk agreement, which Donetsk and Lugansk rightfully
rejected. Also, Article 11 of Minsk-2 required Ukraine to adopt a new
constitution “with entry into force by the end of 2015 of a new constitution,
which shall incorporate decentralization as a key element…” Till this day,
Ukraine has not complied with this or with any of the other key provisions.

It should be noted that although Russia, Germany and France supervised and
helped to create the Minsk-2 Accord, the accord is between the Kiev government
and the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, and it is they that are responsible for
carrying out its provisions. However, in a bizarre fashion the EU and the USA
are constantly blaming Russia for somehow not “implementing the Minsk
agreement” … ignoring the fact that Russia is not a participant or a party in
this agreement, in exactly the way that Germany and France aren’t subject to
it. In an action divorced from reality, on July 1, 2016, the EU extended
economic sanctions against Russia because the Minsk Accord has still not been
fully implemented – as if this had been Russia’s responsibility! Obviously,
sheer ignorance and prejudice towards Russia, rather than factual analysis,
rules the day.

In its foreign policy towards Ukraine and Russia, Canada must separate fact
from fiction. Although you have noted the need for “dialogue” with Russia, so
far nothing with respect to policy has changed.

Sincerely,

Opposition MP Nikolai Skorik demands from the government to restore economic
ties with Russia since it has become clear that the EU does not represent for
the Ukraine any real economic alternatives. "The Ukraine, whether you like it

cooperation with the EU does not offer attractive prospects to the Ukraine."

Independent MP Jacob Bezbakh called to restore trade, economic and friendly
relations with Russia in favor of restoring the economy. He also urged to
resist American influence on the Ukrainian politics. "It's very unreasonable
to rely on what Uncle Sam tells us from the overseas. Today, our industry is,
in fact, stopped. We have destroyed everything, and now we don't understand
what we should build." According to the MP, the restoration of relations with
Russia should begin with peace in Donbass, and then, above all, friendship.

Q. You say, they forgot about Donbas, what do you mean?
A. In the peaceful part of the Ukraine, no one now cares about what's going
on in Donbas. There is just a very small percentage of volunteers who support
us, collect some money, but most of the Ukrainians don't give a shit.
Q. What do you think, how many of the Ukrainians share Russia-friendly views?
A. A huge lot. They are simply waiting for a moment. A lot of the Ukrainians
would support the slogan 'Putin, enter troops, please'. And, look, how many
of our people go to Crimea to rest on vacation! I'm shocked at all this.

Lvov residents are today completely disillusioned about the politicians that

Cash-Strapped Ukraine Stocks Expired Food Following Economic 'Experiment'

23.10.2016

With the economic crisis in Ukraine showing no sign of abating, more and more
people there are opting to buy expired food products, according to the
Ukrainian news website Vesti <http://u.to/X4VKDw>. ..

In an effort to save money, Ukrainians have rushed to buy expired food,
including milk, sausage, cheese and croissants, enticed by smooth operators
using the Internet .. Needless to say, prices for such foodstuffs are much
cheaper than they are for fresh products, with businessmen preferring to sell
expired food at urban markets and even spontaneously formed selling points. ..

Totalitarian tendencies in post-Maidan Ukraine
In Ukraine, the state apparatus, far-right movements and patriotic citizens
are working together to shut down debate and silence criticism.

VOLODYMYR CHEMERYS | 26 October 2016

.. In post-Maidan Ukraine, temnyky (OS: "the authorities' secret instructions
to the press"), arrests and censorship have become commonplace. What's more,
repression against dissidents and even murder have become socially acceptable.
The murder of the journalist Oles Buzyna in April 2015 or the burning of
dozens of people in Odesa in May 2014 now find their justification in the
speeches of "patriots". Meanwhile, former opposition journalists who gained
seats as parliamentary deputies refuse to defend their colleague Ruslan
Kotsaba, the blogger who spent a year and a half in jail for his views. In
all, over 100 journalists, bloggers and indeed ordinary people who expressed
their views about the war in the Donbas, conscription, the constitutional
order of Ukraine (law enforcement authorities qualify such views as
"separatism") and other issues have been criminally prosecuted in Ukraine for
their publications.

The boldest predictions of George Orwell's 1984 have come to pass - phrases
like "civil war" have become taboo. In their place, we have newspeak. In
particular, the newspeak term "hybrid war", which means everything in our mass
media from military action in the east to an article
(OS: <http://archive.is/1H0jk>) in the New York Times.

To be fair, it should be noted that justifications of violence and murder of
"enemies" have not been accepted by society as a whole - only by one segment
of social media, the mass media and those who call themselves "Maidan
activists". However, that fact does not bestow a rosier vista of Ukraine
today. Critics of the current state of affairs generally remain silent for
fear of repression or they censor themselves. Meanwhile, our mass media
presents the postings of the "Facebook Hundred" or the speeches of "patriots"
as though they were the voice of the entirety of Ukrainian society. (OS: To
be fair, the majority of the Ukrainians don't share the ultra-nationalistic
enthisiasm today, but they prefer to be silent or very careful about anything
that may be against the party line, since a punishment will be real.) ..

The practice of "five minutes of hatred" (again reminiscent of Orwell) has
become commonplace. True, these "five minutes" - mass attacks in social media
and the news media against Nadia Savchenko, Tetiana Montian, Stanislav
Serhienko, Volodymyr Zelensky as well as "anti-corruption activists" and
"euro-optimists" - last not for five minutes, but often weeks on end. (OS:
Nadia Savchenko is that ridiculous 'heroic' 'pilot' that helped kill Russian
journalists and then she was released by Putin - today she becomes closer and
closer to 'the enemy of the state' status in the Ukraine - because she is
stupid and affords to be vocal independently. Other names in the list are also
not 'pro-Russian'.) The initiators of such campaigns (the authors of the first
posts) are advisors to the president (Yuri Biriukov), public officials (Anton
Herashchenko, Georgy Tuka) or structures that belong to representatives of the
pro-government People's Front (Mykola Kniazhytsky, Serhiy Pashynsky).

Informing has become socially acceptable in post-Maidan Ukraine. The State
Security Agency (SBU) encourages it. The website Myrotvorets ("Peacemaker")
collects informers' reports and regularly publishes lists of "enemies" -
journalists and civic activists. These lists often become an instruction of
sorts for the actions of ultra-right paramilitary groups, who use violence
against "traitors", attacking participants in social protests, anti-war,
anti-fascist meetings, threatening and even beating up journalists. ..

Something really has happened to us - Ukraine has changed after the last
Maidan. From a country that stood out for its level of civic freedoms on the
territory of the former USSR, it is transforming into a copy of the Russian
Federation in terms of the suppression of those freedoms. (OS: The latter is
an utter bullshit since Russia is in no comparison post-coup Ukraine's
fascist / totalitarian shit. And the Ukrainian 'dissidents' in contrast to the
vocal Russian ones know well 'the West' will not help them. That's why the
hapless loser is complaining through a little-known minor outlet, neither 'The
New York Times' nor 'The Guardian' would not publish such complaints.) ..

The facts above show that several aspects of civic life in today's Ukraine are
under the control either of state organs or non-state far-right formations.
And citizens who want to express views that are not approved by these
formations face threats, violence or criminal prosecutions. A number of NGOs
and internet resources monitor what bloggers say on social media, the
publications and activities of journalists and civic activists, appearances by
actors and singers (both Ukrainian and Russian), television broadcasts, films
and peaceful gatherings. The result of this "monitoring" is usually an appeal
to state bodies such as the SBU, the Interior Ministry, the Ministry of
Information (the "Ministry of Truth" as it is called by many journalists),
National Council for Television and Radio, State Film Agency, demanding that
criminal charges be brought against certain people, that broadcast of certain
television programmes or films be prohibited, that television broadcast
licences be revoked. ..

In other incidents, ultra-right activists, openly racist and Nazi (such as
Azov) formations have themselves attacked television stations such as Ukraina
and Inter, social protests, anti-war meetings, meetings with left wing and
antifascist banners and symbols, actions of the LGBT community. As a rule,
these attacks take place with the police passively standing by.During these
attacks on mass media outlets, the attackers demand changes to their editorial
policy and the portrayal of events in Ukraine according to their "patriotic"
point of view only. As a result of this pressure, attacks and criminal
prosecutions citizens refrain from stating their views in public and the mass
media censors itself. ..

The initiators of campaigns against dissent are typically the representatives
of ultra-right formations, as well as those civic activists who previously
presented themselves and currently do so as people with a liberal and
democratic outlook. However, these campaigns succeed primarily as a result of
either the support or the inactivity of state institutions.

Kiev government has created headquarters to combat "third Maidan"

There are predictions of the imminent start of large protests in the country.
Dispersal of protesters and introduction of martial law in Kiev are among the
planned measures. Police were ordered to prevent any transports with would-be
protesters from regions from entering Kiev. They also were ordered to prevent
installation of tents and equipment in the city. Kiev Mayor's office has
received a recommendation to use court bans on any rallies in the capital.
MPs of the pro-government factions were asked to organize groups of athletes
and employees of private security firms to help police disperse the protest
actions if required.

"Shock-bills", caused by a large increase in the price of electricity, gas,
heating and other utilities, are considered the main reason for the upcoming
protests.

...

I strongly suspect that such a 'leak' was deliberately arranged by the Kiev
government, it is addressed to the would-be protesters in order to intimidate
them and make it clear to them that any attempts are doomed to failure.

In the three years since the adoption of the Yanukovich's 'dictatorial laws',
the power have restored similar restrictions, or proposed new restrictions,
and in some cases tightened previous laws.

...

Those who followed the Ukrainian events in the early 2014, would have to
remember that one of the 'arguments' about 'tyranny' was related to those
'draconian laws'. There was a big hysteria and a righteous indignation due to
those 'draconian laws'. The laws were adopted at the time when it became clear
that the violent protests came to frenzied insanity (thanks to the hateful
propaganda disseminated by a few Ukrainian outlets funded by the US and other
'western' powers) and something needs to be done about that.

Right after the anti-democratic / anti-constitutional coup, the news regime
in Kiev became more oppressive against 'dissidents' and 'dissenters', but
their oppression was implemented mainly in an informal way, by those far-right
neo-Nazi militant gangs, to which the 'formal' authorities as well as the
'western' liberal mass media turned a blind eye.

Now the Kiev regime seeks for a way to rely less on the neo-Nazis and more on
the 'lawful' mechanisms of the state oppression, which is understandable since
the regime is now very unpopular, and their approval ratings are extremely
low. They are very much afraid of 'new' popular protests, and it explains why
the laws in the Ukraine become more 'draconian' in comparison to those
'Yanukovich's dictatorship', but this time the 'western' MSM do not fall into
hysterics and don't label the Kiev regime as 'tyranny'.

Russian Destroyer Rescues Ukrainian Fishing Vessel Crew in Mediterranean

WORLD | 24.11.2016

Russia's Vice-Admiral Kulakov anti-submarine destroyer has rescued the crew of

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The ministry said Vice-Admiral Kulakov received a distress

The destroyer, part of the naval task force stationed in the Mediterranean,

adrift for two days, the defense ministry added, noting that the rescue

Ukraine's Problem is Ukraine

James D. Durso | January 24, 2017

Ukraine's government has hired Washington lobbyists <http://u.to/oAuvDw> to
fix its problems with the Trump Administration, but would do better to fix
its internal problems, instead. Ukraine's problems are in four categories: a
structural problem caused by the multiple overlapping entities involved in
military strategy and procurement; the absence of a unified strategic vision
for ordering equipment and supplies; a "Fifth Column" of pro-Russian
officials; and a staggering corruption that divides the self-interest of the
elites from the national interest. ..

In Ukraine, citizens are played for suckers: local militias fight to preserve
home and liberty (OS: ???), while the leaders focus on procedure, personal
prestige, and offshore bank accounts. Ukroboronprom is infamous
<http://u.to/-gyvDw> for selling arms to the black market, and domestic
contracts are given to factories <http://u.to/UQ2vDw> indirectly owned
<http://u.to/eg2vDw> by President Petro Poroshenko, who still hadn't divested
his business interests as he promised to do when he took office in 2014.

However, Ukraine's political leaders are not fiddling while their country
burns, they are busy stealing their military budgets -- nearly half, in the
estimate of a former Ukrainian senior military officer who requested not to be
identified. They reason that when the rest of Ukraine is swallowed up by
Russia, they will have a well-funded Plan B. ..

Complicating these issues is the presence of the Russian Fifth Column. Many
of the senior leadership -- military as well as political -- are loyal to
President Putin, and they work actively to undermine Ukrainian independence.

.. It is time for President Poroshenko, the Defense Minister, the Chief of
Staff and their deputies to put Ukraine's interests above their own, resign
their positions, and let someone who cares about defending Ukraine manage the
defense effort. (OS: LOL) .. Honest Ukrainian patriots should .. force out the
kleptocrats, and lead the reform. ..

...

The 'Fifth Column' narrative demands special clarification. The Ukraine was in
independent development since the end of the USSR, and the Ukraine officials
is overwhelmingly a product of solely domestic origin. Neither Yeltsyn in the
1990s nor Putin in the 2000s nor some else from Russia noticeably influenced
the appointment of officials in the country.

The reason for the 'Fifth Column' is that many in the Ukraine are somehow
linked to Russia and v.v., - and it's not about the officials, it's about the
population in general - and they aren't 'loyal to President Putin' personally.
About 8 millions of the Ukrainians (ie. about a third of the Ukrainian adults)
per year are visiting Russia in the recent years, mostly due to their work as
well as private and family affairs. The Ukraine was / is the N1 source of the
visitors in Russia. 0.5 million of the Ukrainians spent their summer 2016 time
in 'occupied' Crimea. The sick Atlanticist propaganda cannot recognize the
fact of the close natural connection between Russia and the Ukraine because it
would destroy their very basic lies. But if you staged an anti-democratic coup
in favor of minority then it's natural to obtain a huge 'Fifth Column' as a
result. Such a 'column' can be suppressed only by heavy hateful propaganda in
combination with regular intimidation and terror against the people - whether
it's performed by the neo-Nazi groups of through the draconian oppressive
laws. The American writer promotes misconception of 'pro-Russian officials'
(that allegedly owe something to Putin) obviously alluding to the idea that a
greater terror against the Fifth Column would be justified. All this indicates
the savagery anti-humanism and immorality of the Atlanticist propaganda and
illustrates how much sick and disgusting those notorious 'values' really are.

Ukraine Lost Over 460 Soldiers Dead to Donbass War in 2016.

Combat, Suicide, Murder and Alcohol the Big Killers

Mark Nicholas | 2017-01-30

Shocking statistics <https://clck.ru/AXCXs> for Ukraine military losses in
2016.

256 servicemen were killed by enemy action in Donbass. This is a very high
number for what is supposed to be a "frozen" conflict.

Another 63 soldiers killed themselves.

58 died of illnesses.

39 due to reckless handling of weapons, and another 47 in other accidents.

Fully 39 servicemen were murdered.

10 died from alchohol poisoning or substance abuse.

5 more died for unspecified causes, and 4 died "due to violations of security
measures" -- ie they wandered onto a mine field, or were shot by sentries.

All said Ukraine in 2016 lost 467 servicemen.

This is comparable to the number of soldiers US was losing in Afghanistan at
the height of combat operations there (317 in 2009, 499 in 2010, 418 in 2011,
310 in 2012). It is comparable to the 486 soldiers US lost in the first year
of the Iraq war.

Losing 256 soldiers without even having really pursued the war is bad enough,
but even moey shocking are some of the other numbers.

63 suicides, 58 deaths from disease, 10 alcohol poisonings and 39 homicides?
Are we reading the statistics for a mafia-ridden, depressed ghetto, or the
armed forces of a European nation?

At 39 homicides for its 250,000 members the murder rate in the Ukraine
military is four times as high as the overall murder rate in Ukraine,

These are numbers from Ukraine's Ministry of Defense. They do not include
losses sustained by the National Guard which reports to the Ministry of the
Interior instead.

National Guard was the force which incorporated the often unruly and extremist
volunteer right-wing battalions. If anything its numbers must be even worse.

Ukraine intensifies aggression against Donbass region

ADAM GARRIE | 2017-01-31

While the world's eyes are elsewhere, Donbass is once again under attack.

Whenever the forces of the fascist regime in Kiev feel any kind of existential
weakness, they respond through a combination of insane rhetoric and increased
attacks on the Donbass Republics, attacks which are in violation of the Mink
II deal, an agreement which has been violated so many times, it hardly bears
any discussion at this point.

Clearly fearing that Donald Trump's new and thus far cordial relationship with
Vladimir Putin may put the brakes on the US money which flowed so readily to
the fascists under Obama, the fascist forces, including what is left of the
Ukrainian army as well as militants, terrorists and mercenaries have been
stepping up their attacks on Donbass. ..

led to a proportionate response from the Donbas militias. Now Kiev will try

Ukrainian pro-Kiev news media outlets quite openly discuss the fact that the
pro-Kiev forces launched an offensive a few days back, and are now trying to

Ukraine - Coup Government Tries To Sabotage U.S.-Russia Rapprochement

February 01, 2017

Fighting in east Ukraine has restarted. This is an attempt by "deep state"
forces to prevent any rapprochement between the U.S. and Russia under the new
Trump administration.

The west-Ukrainian forces under command of the coup government of President
Poroshenko started a large attack against the Russian supported Ukrainian
self-defense forces in Donetsk and Lugansk governate.

A ceasefire arranged after the Minsk II agreement provided for demilitarized
zones along a line of separation. The Ukrainian government has so far avoided
to fulfill the Minsk II agreement that would allow a reuniting of the country.

.. The fight was planned and started just after the inauguration of the new
U.S. president Trump. .. For the Ukrainian coup government and its
neo-conservative supporters this marks the end of their dreams. If it loses
U.S. and NATO support the Ukraine must declare bankruptcy, the government will
be kicked out and the country will, over time, move naturally back into the
Russian sphere. To prevent that Poroshenko was ordered to launch a new attack
while blaming Russia. ..

Trump will hopefully reverse the Obama plans and, as far as one can currently
tell, seeks to arrange friendly cooperation with Russia wherever feasible.
The current attempts in Ukraine to sabotage such rapprochement will probably
not be the only ones. Some "accident" in the Baltic or "mistake" in Syria
could surely be arranged by "deep state" rogue force. If such happens nether
side should fall for it.

Read more <http://tinyurl.com/h9vsflu>

...

I think, it's inaccurate to use wordings like 'back into the Russian sphere'.
Interests of the regular people should be a higher priority rather than
'geopolitical' games and models. People in the western areas of the Ukraine
have a legitimate interest to seek for more ties with their western neigbors
while people in the east of the country have a legitimate interest to keep
their ties with Russia, speak in Russian etc. It means that the central gov't
in Kiev should respect for these people's interests in balance.

The western powers, the infantile monkeys in the Obama administration, and
the delusional EU-cracy morons, made a bet on the highly extremist and
sectarian forces in the [west-] Ukraine to implement an anti-democratic coup
in the country. It was a very much immoral policy. It's somewhat similar to
how these morons (aka 'community of values') use the jihadists in the Middle
East for their geopolitical games. As the result of the coup, the Ukraine is
destabilized and life of all the Ukrainians markedly deteriorated.

No one has benefited from that except perhaps the people of Crimea that found
a way to escape from the destructive post-coup mess in the Ukraine and rejoin
Russia.

Ukraine, which pressumably means that Russia somehow caused the current
escalation of violence there.

At the same time however, it is public knowledge in Ukraine that for weeks
before Kiev's forces had been steadily pushing forward using special
infiltration tactics.

I think Russia is gonna have to give in order to get.
Trump likes to make deals.

My bet is that they're gonna have to give away
"eastern Ukraine" - though perhaps a relocation
plan for the Russian-thinkers there might be
arranged so the coup fascists won't come and
murder them all.

But Russia gets the strategic Crimean pennisula
(which has pretty much always been Russias).
It was Russia that built that up as a major military/
commercial shipping complex. Maybe they can
lease-out some of the commercial slots to the
Ukrainians ? Kind of a security risk though ...
but it'd LOOK good.

Oh, and Russia REALLY should look into building
some facilities just across the water in what's very
definitely Russian territory. I've looked at the maps,
wouldn't be that hard actually.

My message is addressed that part of the Ukrainian intelligentsia who haven't
lost remnants of the common sense, my colleagues and like-minded people in the
kitchens (OS: The 'kitchens' is a popular, among the intelligentsia, cultural
reference to the Soviet-times totalitarianism, when it was impossible to say
openly what you think in public, and people discussed issues in the kitchens
of their private apartments.) .. And I know well that a huge number of people
do not agree with what's going on today in the country.

What I've been watching now: the fear and talks in the kitchen, half-whisper,
the cringe people call for caution and justify themselves by saying that they
have something to lose.

Why are you afraid to tell the truth? The simple truth is that in our country
there's a totalitarian regime. Just a dumb provincial, deceitful totalitarian
regime keen to prolong the war and making profit from that. They utilize the
soldiers for the sake of a cheap PR, and subject the civilians to repression.
Their bombing kills not so the separatists but rather women and children. See
lists of the dead from the morgue at a 2014. The censorship in the media, the
arrests of the dissidents. A total ban to discuss the war, of which the only
allowed thing is to say that it is 'Russian terrorist army'. ..

The Ukrainian government does not want peace and is willing to spend hundreds
of young men under the guise of the myths about 'liberation' and 'bravery' ..
The regime uses the far right extremists when it is necessary to remove the
dissidents. Why are you afraid to say that we were deceived on the Maidan, and
they used the democratic idea to bring the oligarchy to power? In a strange
combination with the Nazis. Yes, the Nazis, it's not a hyperbole. Don't you
know they disrupt the art exhibitions if the arts contain humanistic ideas? ..

The Warlords of Kiev

Ukraine militarists restarting conflict with separatists

Justin Raimondo | February 10, 2017

The warlords of Kiev are going on the offensive, violating the terms of the
Minsk peace accords, and attacking separatist rebels in the eastern part of
the country in a desperate bid to provoke open conflict with Russia. What
motivates them is fear of President Donald Trump, who has often expressed a
desire to "get along with Russia" and who has openly said Ukraine is not a
vital US national security interest. What motivates their new aggression is
the possibility that the US subsidies that have kept their vicious war on
their own people going - 10,000 killed so far - will dry up.
Ever since US and European Union-backed shock troops overthrew the
democratically elected government of President Viktor Yanukovych, the coup
leaders in Kiev have waged a relentless war against their rebellious subjects
in the east. As "President" Petro Poroshenko put it:

"We will have jobs, they won't! We will have pensions, they won't! We
will have benefits for retirees and children, they won't! Our kids will
go to schools and daycares, their kids will sit in the basements! They
can't do anything about it. And only this is how we will win this war!"

To the great shame of American policymakers, the United States has backed this
monster to the hilt, sending billions in "foreign aid" to what is no doubt the
most corrupt country in Europe and even sending US soldiers to "train"
Poroshenko's killers. ..

Ukraine's Military Continues to Work With Far-Right Militias

'Officially, We Are Not Here'

Jason Ditz | February 13, 2017

.. "Officially, we are not here," one such militia fighter was quoted as
telling the Washington Post <http://u.to/tyC6Dw>, as he and his forces,
deployed along the frontlines, pass easily through military checkpoints.
Unofficially, they are still part of the battle, and working closely with the
military.

Their hostility to peace deals and comfort with neo-Nazi trappings make them a
potential PR nightmare for Kiev .. In the near-term, these ultranationalists
will content themselves will attacks in the east, but the real danger for Kiev
is what comes after the war. These groups were a key part of the regime change
that put the current pro-West government in power, but many are very public in
their view that they need another violent revolution to install an even more
nationalist government.

...

It's not so important that they are real Nazi. Their 'comfort with neo-Nazi
trappings' is what's really disgusting. It's basically acceptable, but simply
let me don't see their trappings.

Actually, what's going on in the Ukraine is really, really sinister.

As usual, first you have created a monster, then you don't know how to deal

In Which Reporting About "Fake News" Turns Out To Be Such

February 16, 2017

Another rather amusing piece about fake news is published in today's New York
Times. The headline: Fake News, Fake Ukrainians: How a Group of Russians
Tilted a Dutch Vote <http://clck.ru/AbKDH>. It is amusing because no fact in
the piece agrees with the headline. The piece itself turns out to be fake
news. ..

Some Ukrainian expats lobbied in the Netherlands against a vote for a
EU-Ukrainian association agreement. Some Dutch people of Russian heritage also
lobbied that way. The Dutch eventually rejected the agreement with 61.1% of
votes against it and 38.1% in favor.

That vote took place in April 2016. .. A few expats in the Netherlands took
part in public discussions and argued for the side of the vote that eventually
won. They did so without hiding their identity, fairly and completely within
the bounds of all laws. There is no sign at all that they had any influence on
the vote.

But that is not good enough for the NYT. "Putin did it" is a standing order.
Indeed the lobbying Ukrainians must have been "fake Ukrainians" and secretly
Russians because somehow no Ukrainian would ever argue against the violent
Maidan putsch and its consequences:

They attended public meetings, appeared on television and used social
media to denounce Ukraine's pro-Western government as a bloodthirsty
kleptocracy, unworthy of Dutch support. ... The most active members of the
Ukrainian team were actually from Russia, or from Russian-speaking regions
of Ukraine, and parroted the Kremlin line.

The author seems to express that people "from Russian-speaking regions of
Ukraine" (which include at least a third of the country) are "fake
Ukrainians"? That they have no agency as Ukrainians but are only capable to
"parrot the Kremlin line"? Are these Russian speaking Ukrainians of less
value? Is there something wrong with having an opinion that does not parrot
the Washington/Brussels line? ..

...

Here is a standard way of misrepresentation used in the Atlanticist media
and in the Atlanticist narratives in general. If there is a country or some
else community where people differ in their views, opinions and sentiments,
the Atlanticist agitprop takes a fraction that best serves the Atlanticist
interest and virtually expands it to the whole entity. Other fractions are
presented rather as 'elements' with various epithets intended to create the
impression that they are marginal, insignificant or somehow 'wrong' anyway.

In the reality, the anti-democratic 2014 coup in the Ukraine was implemented
not in favor of the Ukrainian majority's sentiment. However, the fraction
that supported it is labeled 'the Ukrainians' while the fraction that opposed
it is labeled 'pro-Russian elements'. This gives an ignorant person a false
picture of Russia offending the Ukraine (a strong offends a weak! such an
injustice! and we need to protect the weak against the offender etc etc - a
total falsehood).

The trick is used everywhere.

Regardless of variety <http://archive.is/XBUT8> of the popular sentiment
among the Syrians you must believe there're 'the Syrians', kinda as a whole,
oppressed by Assad, and regardless of the fact that the 'rebels' in Syria are
mostly motivated by the radical wahhabi-salafi agenda, you must believe there
are mainly 'moderate rebels' vs 'extremist elements'.

In the case of Russia, they can't allow the idea that the most part of the
Russians are loyal to Russia just because they are the Russians, instead the
public must believe that the Russians are either afraid to say what they
think or are misguided by the Kremlin propaganda, - except some fraction that
is supposed to be the most brave and educated (also a total falsehood).

The Atlanticist audience is accustomed to take such falsehoods for granted,
in addition to sick pompous rants about 'values' and 'moral leadership' and
so on, which, in contrast, indicates rather a delusion and moral decline.

Putin has signed an executive order that prescribes Russian authorities to
recognize passports, other IDs, car numbers etc issued by the two Donbas
republics. The order will be in force until the Donbas issue is settled. If
it doesn't happen, then it might be a first step towards Russia's official
recognition of the republics.

The need for such a step is due to the fact that Kiev is burning more and
more bridges between the people of Donbas and the Ukraine. Recently, quite
a comic situation has developed due to the fact that the Nazi volunteers have
blocked the railway tracks in order to make transportation of coal from Donbas
to the Ukraine impossible. This is a heavy blow for the Ukrainian electric
power industry, because Donbas is the only place where they can buy cheap coal
from. The ill-minded Nazis do not care about that, they are obsessed with the
very fact that Kiev has to conduct some trade with Donbas. Kiev gov't made a
feeble effort to banish them from the railways through police action. But
those Nazis are armed well, and they have warned they will shoot the police
for real. A few shootouts have already happened. So the gov't has given it up.
The clowns in Kiev now claim the Donbas coal blockade has been organized by
the Kremlin agents.

Due to the coal, other fuel shortages the Kiev government has declared a
state of 'electrical' emergency. Since now, they have rolling power outages
<http://u.to/-lG8Dw>. Maybe they would try to steal gas from the transit
pipelines (this explains why Gazprom feels uncomfortable about use of their
pipelines). Meanwhile, Ukrainian press writes <http://u.to/xlK8Dw> more
and more Ukrainians desperately refuse to pay for utilities bills. It happens
because the people find astronomical (for them) numbers in the bills.

A few words of wisdom from the late great Gen. Alexander Lebed:

"You must go deeper into Russia - 150 kilometers from Moscow or more, and
look there. The kids are fed with cattle feed - people don't get paid for
half a year."

"I mean that at least 80% of the Russian people feel destitute. It's the
people who had their past and future taken from them - they don't get paid -
many of them face a wall. They have nowhere to go."

"As I understand I took most so-called democratic states about 200 years on
average to build their democracies. That is why, when we go to sleep under
totalitarian rule and wake up in a democracy, it makes me laugh."

Due to the coal, other fuel shortages the Kiev
government has declared a state of 'electrical'
emergency.
One reason why they aren't paying the utilities bills is
they can't afford to pay them, and buy food and

A couple of years ago, a BBC reporter went 'deeper into Russia'
to see what was going on there. He came upon a little town, now
mostly drunks and older people, that was crumbling to bits - big
open cracks in walls letting in the winter cold, electric plant dead,
animals and gardens poorly-tended, the younger people had all
fled to better digs.

The reporter asked a number of people why they didn't take
care of the problems. The answer was downright scary ...
they expected Putin to come there and order somebody else
to fix everything. They wouldn't lift a fuckin' finger to even stuff
a wad of paper in that crack in the wall - someone *else* was
supposed to do it and pay for it.

What Lebed was describing wasn't a failure of Russian
'democracy' or even 'capitalism' - it was a PEOPLE
PROBLEM ... too many people who expected the god/czar
to do everything FOR them. I guess he was expected to
jog through town once a month too - blowing cash out
of his asshole.

God/czars help those who will first help themselves.
Sorry komrades, but you're fucked.

Oh, and if you wanna see another big country that has
lavished resources on the 10% and given the finger to
the rest, try the "Peoples Republic" of China. Check into
conditions back in the farm country ... appalling. It's
why everyone who's young enough has fled to one of
the big manufacturing cities.

Heh, heh .....

Russia is just *weird* ... an extremely fucked-up
history there. Easy to see why the average Ivan
is so full of cynicism. Makes for good depressing
novels, song and film however ...

England, France and the USA all had "peoples
revolutions" of some flavor or another. England
slowly evolved into a 'democracy' with Magna
Carta as the year-zero event. France and the USA,
well, a somewhat more vigorous divestment of
absolute rulers.

Russia had a revolution - but despite the title it was
in no way a "peoples revolution" - just a transition
from the absolute authority of the tsars to the absolute
authority of Lenin and Stalin. The People remained
way, WAY at the bottom of the pecking order. Now
they have Putin - who's a friendlier tsar but still a
tsar for most purposes. When he's gone it'll likely
transition back to some modern Stalin. The people
NEVER get a break there, always under the wheel,
and I just don't see that changing in the next 100 years.

music in that category though ... "strength + struggle"
comes through clearly even if you don't speak Russian)

Yes, they changed the words a little to please

Most Russian music has a 'dirgy' character. Something
about 20 generations being crushed under the wheel,
only to be yanked up, have a shovel thrust into their
hands and ordered to work a 20 hour day before
the wheel comes back around ...............

It's a tough place. No wonder they try to drink
themselves to death before the tsar or kommittee
or whatever finds a way to kill them.

This version is performed by a monks choir or like that. For the old Russia
nostalgists the tsar is a tragic character, so the tune may be corresponding.
The versions below are closer to more normal / regular performance.

a comic situation has developed due to the fact that the Nazi volunteers
have blocked the railway tracks in order to make transportation of coal from
Donbas to the Ukraine impossible. This is a heavy blow for the Ukrainian
electric power industry, because Donbas is the only place where they can buy
cheap coal from. The ill-minded Nazis do not care about that, they are
obsessed with the very fact that Kiev has to conduct some trade with Donbas.
Kiev gov't made a feeble effort to banish them from the railways through
police action. But those Nazis are armed well, and they have warned they
will shoot the police for real. A few shootouts have already happened. So
the gov't has given it up. The clowns in Kiev now claim the Donbas coal
blockade has been organized by the Kremlin agents.
The story continues so that the Kiev government tried to negotiate with the
Nazis, but they refused to talk and instead promised to tighten and widen the
blockade. In response to that, Donbas governments have introduced state-
controlled management in the local enterprises and businesses whose owners
reside now on the Kiev-controlled territory and are unable to manage their
property due to the blockade. It may be a first step towards nationalization
of such non-managed industries.

Meanwhile, who exactly invested in the Ukraine in 2016, from abroad.

<http://tinyurl.com/h3d32vz> unian.net

Russia 1,667 $ million
Cyprus 428 $ million (this is also Russia)
Britain 403 $ million (and this is also largely Russia)
Netherlands, the 255 $ million
Austria 250 $ million

Cyprus is Russian offshore businesses and the UK's part is also mostly Russian
money (since the UK is a well-known safe haven for the thieves and fraudsters
around the world), - the above numbers is 70% of total investment, which means
the part of the Russian investment in the Ukraine, in 2016 is about 55 percent
of the total investment.

Attack on Kever of Rav Nachman in Uman, Pig's Head and Blood Placed Across
the Ohel (Video, Photos)
December 20, 2016

<http://tinyurl.com/z74yksp> israelnationalnews.com

Anti-Semitic vandals hurl pig's head into tomb of Rebbe Nachman
Tomb of Breslov founder desecrated as vandals throw pig's head with swastika
into Uman compound.

Witnesses say a gang of Ukrainian vandals desecrated the tomb compound at
approximately 2:00 a.m. local time, throwing a pig's head and red paint into
the building. Photograph close-ups of the pig's head show a swastika was
carved into the animal's forehead. The attackers sprayed tear gas and shouted
anti-Semitic epithets during the assault which left Jewish visitors to the
tomb shaken. .. The vandals had shaved heads, witnesses claim, and appear to
be connected with local neo-Nazi groups. ..

...

Uman is a holy place for the Hasidic sect. Every Jewish New Year the town
experiences a heavy pilgrimage by tens of thousands of the Hasidic Jews. It's
accompanied with certain problems.

"Every year the site sees violent incidents that sometimes even
end with deaths. Jewish and non-Jewish hands equally bathe in blood."
<http://tinyurl.com/jaz8caq>

The regular annual arrival of the Hasidic Jews in Uman is also known in the
Ukraine as a great sexfest time. The crowd of the pilgrims is composed almost
entirely of middle-aged men, and the Jewish religious mores tolerate
extramarital man's sex with non-Jewish females, and this provides the local
Ukrainian girls with a unique opportunity to improve their financial situation
(which has become especially gloomy after the violent anti-constitutional coup
in 2014, backed by the US and EU). Not only local women are preparing for that
but the prostitutes from around the whole Ukraine come to Uman in order to
serve the Jews at the time of the pilgrimage.

The Hasidism is a rather 'new' sect, it's originated in the 17-18 century as
an answer to the Khmelnytsky Uprising which showed that the established Jewish
behavior patterns no longer provide enough safety and an update is required.

This Is Life in Militia-Controlled Eastern Ukraine

ZACK BADDORF | 2017-02-04

Inside Donetsk, the first thing I noticed was the empty billboards. I'd
reported from Donetsk back in 2014, months before the fighting began
here.
Back then, it seemed like a booming and prosperous city - and a
surprising place for a rebellion.
"Defend the Country - Revive Donbass," a billboard with the DPR flag on
it urged motorists. The billboard next to it was empty. Most of the ads
in the city are gone, a sign of a weak economy.

What's so surprising? The Donetsk region was one of the most rich
areas in the country. It's a highly urbanized agglomeration.
Whereas, the Maidan protests, were driven by delusional rural guys
from the west Ukraine, predominantly under utopian slogans of
national-socialist and Nazi-nostalgist flavor (the most violent and
'productive' protest part, that led to the coup), in combination
with delusional 'pro-european' Kiev's pussies.

'Weak economy' today is explainable due to the current situation:
break of ties with the rest of the Ukraine and general uncertainty
for businesses under the Kiev's shelling.

Retirees lined up outside another bank to collect their pensions. The DPR
is now paying out retirement benefits in Russian rubles.

It's a Kiev's duty to pay out the retirement benefits, since the
people were working during their working age for the Ukraine, not
for the DPR. And these old people have nothing to do with the
militias. But since the new Kiev government pursues the Nazi-like
agenda, they justify such a form of collective punishment by the
known fact that the Donbas people's majority is Russia-friendly.
So the DPR government has to pay out the retirement benefits. The
same way Kiev justified, for example, electric blockade of Crimea.
In west-Ukrainian nationalist press there are wet dreams that,
after Donbas and Crimea return back, their people will be deprived
of voting and some other civil rights since they all in the eastern
Ukraine are defective. It just means that Donbas and Crimea will
never return back, regardless of eventual settlement.

But there was a McDonald's in Donetsk . which is now shuttered. The fast
food franchise has recently been a popular target of anti-Western sentiment
in both Russia and countries with strong ties to Moscow.

Don't know for Donetsk, but, in Russia, McDonald's and many other
American-brand eateries are working as usual, nobody gives a shit
about them. Also, there's no 'anti-Western' sentiment but rather
the anti-American one. The peak of it was in 2014-2015. To express
it, some drivers clinged stickers like 'Obama is a schmuck' on
their cars. This was not a common and widespread fashion though.

Kiev Continues to Distinguish Itself as a Mecca of Tolerance and Western

Chanting "Jews out!" and destroying art exhibits. Is this what Merkel was

Paul Kaiser | 2017-02-11

The third anniversary of the "Revolution of Dignity" is just a few short days

Exclusive: Ukraine on Fire, a new documentary about the Ukraine crisis, might

A Documentary You'll Likely Never See

James DiEugenio | February 13, 2017

It is not very often that a documentary film can set a new paradigm about a
recent event, let alone, one that is still in progress. But the new film
Ukraine on Fire has the potential to do so - assuming that many people get to
see it.

Usually, documentaries - even good ones - repackage familiar information in a
different aesthetic form. If that form is skillfully done, then the
information can move us in a different way than just reading about it. ..

Key people in the film's production are director Igor Lopatonok, editor Alex
Chavez, and writer Vanessa Dean, whose screenplay contains a large amount of
historical as well as current material exploring how Ukraine became such a
cauldron of violence and hate. Oliver Stone served as executive producer and
conducted some high-profile interviews with Russian President Vladimir Putin
and ousted Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych. ..

Exclusive: Ukraine on Fire, a new documentary about the Ukraine crisis,
might change how people in the West perceive the conflict, but it's
unlikely to get much distribution since it contests the prevailing
narrative ..

Anything produced by Oliver Stone invariably reeks of hate-America
conspiracy theories: http://tinyurl.com/gv3av2a

From the get-go, he's been one of Putin's useful idiots.

At a time when members of Russia’s parliament are calling for a ban on
Hollywood films such as The Avengers and Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, which
“demonize Russia and Russians,” and when a prominent Russian director has
advocated banning all American movies until Washington lifts the sanctions
it imposed on Moscow in the wake of the annexation of Crimea, Stone sets
himself apart as one of the few Tinseltown personalities still held in high
esteem by the country’s state-controlled media (though he is not alone in
this): http://tinyurl.com/oyebv63
http://tinyurl.com/hu8ynlj

Stone gave a lengthy and exclusive interview to the state-owned newspaper
Rossiyskaya Gazeta. In it, he praised Putin’s authoritarian rule of the
country, defended Russia’s annexation of Crimea and subsequent aggression in
Ukraine, and once again speculated about who "really" shot down Malaysia
Airlines Flight 17: http://tinyurl.com/gpaujsn

”Neglected in Stone’s series/book is any mention of “useful idiots,” those
American and European intellectuals who turned a blind eye to the Soviet
Union’s crimes and repression to stand in solidarity with its “higher
cause.” Stone, whose own anti-American views happen to coincide with those
of the Kremlin, would do well to research the phenomenon. He could start by
looking in the mirror.”: http://tinyurl.com/hnlajhc

Quarter of Russians back potential recognition of Donbass republics

Published time: 20 Feb, 2017

Nearly a quarter of Russian citizens think their country should officially
recognize the self-declared Donetsk and Lugansk Republics as independent
states, but over a third of respondents say Russia should maintain neutrality
over the issue.

The state-run VTSIOM public opinion research center reported that about half
of all Russians currently thing that their government should help the Donetsk
and Lugansk Republics. However, opinions about the exact nature of this help
varied greatly.

Some 24 percent of respondents said the Russian government should recognize
the Donbass republics as independent states, 18 percent said it should go even
further and accept the two regions as members of the Russian Federation. Eight
percent answered that Russia should simply help Donetsk and Lugansk achieve
greater autonomy without changing their current status.

Only 4 percent of Russians said Moscow should help the Kiev regime to gain
control over the Donbass republics. ..

...

The longer Kiev sabotages implementation of the Minsk-2 agreement, the more
it is likely that the kremlin would officially recognize the east-Ukrainian
republics.

Obama and Soros - Nazis in Ukraine 2014 - U.S. in 2017?

How Obama and Soros Put Actual Nazis in Power in Ukraine

February 2017 / A PDF version <http://u.to/ZAXADw> ..

.. Three years ago this week, a Molotov-cocktail-throwing mob on the streets
of Kiev occupied government buildings, perpetrating violence and driving the
duly elected president of the nation out of office and out of the country. ..

Today, the same British and American intelligence institutions, and many of
the same individuals, are attempting to repeat the process, only this time the
target is the democratically elected government of the United States itself ..
