That link doesn't seem to work, even after I put the broken parts
together. I got a screen reading "Merge [pathname] into [other
pathname]." Perhaps you could fix the link?

This is the current comic, so the home page will get you there:

You might want to talk to Hal. I clicked on the link as it appears in

Ohhhh yes. I had a malware attack about a year ago that hosed
ALL my text files. Fortunately, I was able to restore 99% of
them from CD backup, paper copies, and/or memory. And now I
have ESET, which treats my system as a middle-aged duenna treats
a beautiful thirteen-year-old with great big dark eyes and no
sense.

You mean the website, I assume, and not Terry, who if I'm not
mistaken posted the original link?

Only if ESET blocks something, it puts up a little window saying,
"Your security software did not allow this file to be opened."
What I got in this case was either an error message of a
different kind or a list of filenames.

Terry. About the web site, I know only that, if
I'm reading this right, it has produced an insult
that Terry finds well-written. That doesn't make
me want to see it in situ. And I don't think
that a web site which hacks into everyone's
computer is beneath him.

Well, neither ESET nor anything else is impregnable.

"ESET" seems to be multiple different things in
computer security, which is confusing. Maybe I've
misunderstood. Or I've been misinformed.

get to the site (somebody finally posted a link that worked) and
he was right, the context is meaningless unless you have been

It has a lot of different settings. I seem to have loaded one of
the more repressive ones, and I don't know how to change them.

If I *really* need to see something it doesn't want me to see,
I can get into Firefox (instead of my usual IE) using "login as
administrator" and see most things. I guess that is a calculated
risk. But ESET won't allow me even to look at any PDF, for example.

You really shouldn't be using IE. For anything. It's one of the malware

Hence, ESET. I've been using IE (in various incarnations) since

only other choice seems to be Firefox and I don't like the way it
looks.

That link doesn't seem to work, even after I put the broken parts
together. I got a screen reading "Merge [pathname] into [other
pathname]." Perhaps you could fix the link?
http://preview.tinyurl.com/kxrsfra
Now I get the message "your search [URL] did not match any
documents."
You might want to talk to Hal. I clicked on the link as it appears in
your reply, and it took me (via the preview site) to the strip.
Hm. I may do that (he's out running errands at the moment).
Am I remembering right that Hal or you spent time
carefully ensuring that your computer does not
retrieve bad things from the internet?
Ohhhh yes. I had a malware attack about a year ago that hosed
ALL my text files. Fortunately, I was able to restore 99% of
them from CD backup, paper copies, and/or memory. And now I
have ESET, which treats my system as a middle-aged duenna treats
a beautiful thirteen-year-old with great big dark eyes and no
sense.

In this case I don't like the originator.
You mean the website, I assume, and not Terry, who if I'm not
mistaken posted the original link?
Terry. About the web site, I know only that, if
I'm reading this right, it has produced an insult
that Terry finds well-written. That doesn't make
me want to see it in situ. And I don't think
that a web site which hacks into everyone's
computer is beneath him.
I disagree; but that's by the way. I did eventually manage to
get to the site (somebody finally posted a link that worked) and
he was right, the context is meaningless unless you have been
following the script for Eru-knows-how-long.

Only if ESET blocks something, it puts up a little window saying,
"Your security software did not allow this file to be opened."
What I got in this case was either an error message of a
different kind or a list of filenames.
Well, neither ESET nor anything else is impregnable.
"ESET" seems to be multiple different things in
computer security, which is confusing. Maybe I've
misunderstood. Or I've been misinformed.

It took me about three hours to read the webcomic from start to current.

It's not bad, if you like milsf/spaceships/big explosions, and the
writer is an Aussie but doesn't use any of the richness of language
available to him, so it's quite accessible.

Cheers,

The only Australian webcomic I read is Doc Rat, and I can usually
understand it. I did once encounter a character saying to
another, "Onya, mate," and had to email the cartoonist to ask
what it meant. He explained that it was short for "Good on you"
and was a compliment.

Wow, so you don't read Irregular Webcomic, the only Lego fumetti webcomic
authored by an optical physicist (that I know of)?

Nope, never heard of it till now.

But if by Lego, you mean all those little plastic bricks from
Denmark, then like every mother and grandmother in the United
States, I loathe everything to do with them. My grandson leaves
them All Over The Floor.

excellent writer.

Further note--one can get there by googling "Crimson Dark", finding the
webcomic in the list, and finding the April 28 strip, number 619.

After putting the pieces together, it worked fine for me. I
finished reading the main strips last night. I now have the short
stories, etc. to go through. What a great find! YUM!
