The filmmaker's award-winning 'Man From Hope' was shown at the 1992 Democratic Convention.
Documentary producer, director and writer Jeffrey Tuchman, who helmed the Bill Clinton biography The Man From Hope, has died, according to Steve Elzer of Elzer & Associates. He was 62.
Tuchman, who was a documentarian for more than two decades, died Saturday at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles from pancreatic cancer.
The Man From Hope, which was shown at the 1992 Democratic National Convention, where Clinton accepted his party's nomination for president, features Clinton discussing his childhood and his early political career in Hope, Arkansas. The film won a Pollie Award.
After Clinton was elected president, Tuchman directed the 1994 documentary White House: Inside With the President's Photographer, a view of the White House from the perspective of photographer Bob McNeely.
Tuchman also produced political ads for the senate and presidential campaigns of Hillary Clinton, including her 2008 presidential ad "Invisible People."
In 2005, he directed the Emmy- and Peabody-winning TV episode "Voices of Civil Rights," which featured an oral history of the civil rights movement, for History's Save Our History series.
Among Tuchman's other credits, including work for A&E, PBS, NHK, ABC, Discovery/TLC, Court TV, CBS, MSNBC and HBO, was his award-winning four-part documentary Mavericks, Miracles and Medicine, which delved into the history of medicine. The 2003 title was narrated by Edward Herrmann and hosted by Noah Wyle.
Tuchman also was the senior producer of California Connected and a consultant to the California Endowment. In addition, he taught documentary filmmaking at the Columbia University School of Journalism.
He is survived by his brother, Peter, and his father, Marcel, a Holocaust survivor who was the subject of Tuchman's unfinished project Testimony, which was to document Marcel's return to Germany to testify in a war crimes trial against the Nazi who murdered his mother.
