FT8 - 4 Weeks On

http://m1avv.blogspot.com/2018/03/ft8-4-weeks-on.html

I've been using 144MHz FT8 for about a month now, and it's getting more
popular. I've been leaving the radio on 144.174 all day while I've been
out, and operating remotely using TeamViewer on my phone.
There must be quite a few people doing the same as if I call CQ at any time
of day, someone will have received me and there's a spot on PSK Reporter.
Because of the extra range of FT8, there's more activity on there now than
on 2m FM. Some days I'll put a CQ call out and not get a reply, but it's
not a waste of time as I could have been received by someone new.
At the moment conditions on the HF bands aren't very good above 10MHz so
it's good that there's something else to do with an SSB radio.

I put a CPC order in today for a few bits and pieces, and ordered some coax
adaptors on AliExpress. AliExpress is usually pretty slow (a month or more)
but that means it's a nice surprise when something turns up after you've
forgotten all about it. One of the things in the CPC order was a dishwasher
cutlery basket, but all the others were more electronics related. Ordered 2
optical audio cables as I'd used one for connecting up a sound bar then
realised I didn't have any more to connect my PC up to the amplifier.
With CPC, I tend not to use the website to search or browse through the
products because the cheapest of anything is usually in the paper catalogue
updates I get through my door, or in the PDFs on the website. Most popular
things are in the catalogue update, and I like catalogues, it's sometimes
better to have a look through pages with pictures and things ordered
nicely, rather than a list of search results.

So, you have an aerial, an AMU, coax feed from the linear, a rig, and a
computer.

'Experimentation' now seems to consist of downloading the software for
the latest 'mode', installing and running it. Nothing on the radio side
changes at all!

"RSGBTech is meant for everyone", or so the RSGB says. The group is
moderated 'to
ensure that the questions are on topic', but the group's own admissions
policy mention
(a pre-) 'vet', 'known', 'trouble', and 'maker', but not the vetting
policy! None of these are
'moderation' issues and none are mentioned in the RSGB's Guidelines.....

The writing of one's own software might have picked up where excessive
integration of electronics left us bereft, but unfortunately the
changeover was heralded by the arrival of the 3-tier coffer-filling
debacle wherein complete duffers, totally lacking in technical
acumen and equipped with infantile potty mouths, can "ace" the exams.

Gareth, I agree, Gareth! Gareth, he achieved the highest available
licence in a little over a year, Gareth, but the equivalent achievement
took a polymath like you over thirteen years, Gareth. Gareth, that can't
be right, Gareth. Gareth, I'm sure that little Dick's failure to
penetrate the advanced level must be a disappointment to you too, Gareth.

Gareth, Thanks, Gareth.

I'll never forget the sulk Burt fell into when I announced I'd got my Full.
Great times.

Burt complained at length that these blog posts were not wanted by
anyone. Yet who is one of the most regular responders to these
automatically copied posts? Why Burt is that person! Yet he knows the
blog author will not see and thus benefit from Burt's wise replies.

The only conclusion you can draw is Burt does this to provoke discord
and disharmony on here. What a scrotum-necked twatty old troll he is.
