I think you should wait until they submit the product for
independent testing to see how well it actually does hold up against
the 'clunky and outdated' antivirus programs available to you which
can run resident, at no charge.

I personally don't think much of this dudes testing methodology. He
seems quite ignorant concerning the issue of Malware, but, you can
see the program run during the test and see how well/bad it's
actually doing with his samples. Pay close attention to what you'r
seeing, too. And, it has nothing to do with its beta status. He
scanned the folder prior to running any of the samples, Malwarebytes
missed the ones he's executing in the folder during that scan. IE:
the scanner/resident monitoring is not in sync. The scan should have
caught everything that Malwarebytes detected (aside from website
blocking) when he scanned the folder not wait for him to try and
execute them.
The best part is towards the end. [g] Ransomware succesfully 0wned
his box, right before his eyes, with Malwarebytes up and running. At
this point, it succesfully encrypted files; had no problem
whatsoever evading Malwarebytes ransomware protection. Dude is
fucked at that point with his testing.
So, contrary to their claims, their product is not a one stop
solution, and you are not as protected as you may have thought.

As you can see by the short video, this claim isn't valid. [g] Not
only did it fail to prevent the crypto ransom from running, it can't
do a damn thing to recover dudes encrypted data.
The research methodology they use is not suitable for the study of
an actual virus. It's really not suitable for the study of non
replicating malware, but, it's their decision to study malware in
the manner they do. They do not have many people on staff who
actually have a serious, low level, coding background. The majority
of researchers have never seen a single line of assembler. They run
an uninstaller program and execute the suspected malware sample.
They provide definition 'updates' to the program based on what the
uninstaller tells them. They do scan the box after the infection
takes place to determine what/if any is already known to their
program.
They are using coy buzzwords in the advertising on their website.
The technologies being deployed which they feel are new and their
own, entirely; are not. It's the technologies that have been in use
since the 80s to deal with actual viruses at the time. Everything
from heuristics to simple string scanning to wildcard based string
scanning. to behavior monitoring. Interrupt (api these days)
trapping, etc. Malwarebytes has not really invented new technology.
It's just taking them v3 and counting versions to implement the
modern equ of what we did back in the DOS/early Windows days,
decades ago.

Malwarebytes won't issue new lifetime licenses, no. They are
migrating to the pay to play plan. A lifetime license isn't in the
business model. They have to pay for the additional salaries,
marketing, advertising, departments, etc now. It's not the same
company that I worked for. Not even a distant cousin to it. And, I
assure you, this isn't a good thing and my comment isn't a
compliment.
You can still purchase some from independent resellers while the
supply lasts. One such seller has them for around $60 though. With
that said, the program does honor a lifetime license and according
to Malwarebytes, they will continue to do so for those who still
have them.
IMO, I wouldn't waste the money on the program and I don't advise
you to do so/continue doing so, either. It's going to support a
company that's okay now with intentionally! misleading potential new
customers as well as their old ones.
